Who hasn’t turned to Revlon in a hair dye emergency, when the grays are peeking through but the funds are just not quite there? Well, I have. The coverage is good and the price is great, and it won’t over-damage the hair. Finding a color that doesn’t turn too brassy or too ashy in their lineup can be a challenge in and of its own, though. My hair is brown and I usually obey the golden rule of going a shade lighter than my roots to get coverage without the monotone effect that can happen if you accidentally dye it too dark (at least, it can happen if you use a boxed color). I ignore that rule sometimes in the winter, though, and go ahead and use the rich brown color. Yes, it pulls dark at first, but that will fade over the first few shampoos. It’s one of the most natural-looking boxed browns I’ve ever used apart from maybe John Frieda. It is definitely a dark shade of brown, but when you turn your head you get the caramel highlight effect you expect out of natural brown hair. It’s on the warm side of neutral but not as warm as the chestnut brown shade. I don’t usually go for this shade in spring or summer, it’s just too dark; but for autumn and winter when I don’t mind sporting a darker shade I will use it and would recommend it.

This color is a really rich brown, pretty dark if you wanted to have lighter hair color. I picked it because it’s dark enough for me, since I have almost black colored hair and needed something close to my hair color but in brown. Definitely did the trick and does a great job in covering grays, as that was the main reason I wanted to dye my hair. I’ve bought this brand of hair dye before and it’s been a total great buy. At $2.99 a box, it’s totally worth it.

I LOVE this shade. I wanted to add richness to my medium brown hair and go a few shades darker and medium Rich brown did just that. My hair was a “Rich” brown-not black or too red. Just a really pretty, shiny brown. I didn’t have that fade in period you get with most darker brown dyes where my hair is black for the first few weeks-it was perfect from the start. Definitely more dark brown than medium though.

I really like this brand of hair color. I have substantially gray hair that is color resistant, very fine & naturally curly. It usually fades relatively quickly so I’ve tried a lot of hair colors for staying power but they can be harmful to both hair and scalp by making my hair dry and irritating my scalp. This product is very gentle and I think my hair actually looks healthier since I started using it. I’ve now used it twice. The first time my hair did not fade any faster than using the best staying haircolor I’d tried which was AgeBeautiful’s Permanent Haircolor and that really surprised me. And my hair was shiny, healthy and not dry. Color is beautiful and stayed that way for about a month. And no scalp irritation! My hair does pull dark color with every brand that I’ve tried so I always go one or two shades lighter. And this brand can usually be found in the drug store on sale for around $3.50! It’s quite a bargain AND delivers beautiful color and healthy hair and scalp!

This is the deeper Brown I have been searching for. Most dark Brown’s are too dark, near black. And many medium browns can be not deep enough. This being a rich medium brown is perfect. I had no blackness that I had with one of Revlon’s dark browns before. (Although now my hair is in good condition and prior it wasn’t when I had the black pigments ruin my ends) left it on my roots twenty five minutes and only five on the ends. I have resistant greys and this covered them better than other brands, too. I will buy again since I had no problem. Wish the conditioner was a tube than one use packet. It has a nice scent and Clariol’s stinks to me.

This color is disgusting. Based on all the reviews before buying I thought it would be a red base but it’s more purple or blue. It’s definitely on the cooler side and does not compliment my skin tone at all. It’s also more black than “medium brown” which really upsets me. Generally I LOVE Revlons colorsilk line but this is a color that should be renamed to ash black or discontinued.

Wow, this is maybe the 4th time I’ve used Colorsilk but for some reason it really worked this time. It completely covered my grey, and made my hair a beautiful rich brown. Made my very thick wavy midback length hair super soft and yes….silky!! I am amazed and will never use another brand as long as it always turns out like this. I am coloring my natural color by the way, was too dark…made the mistake of using Nice-n-Easy dark brown which turned my hair black. I have since got it back to a nice brown quicker than I thought by using this and a combo of the Nice-n-Easy medium brown (which didn’t cover my grey).
Will definitely be repurchasing and for the price, you can’t beat it.

This hair colour is NOT MEDIUM rich brown as the name would indicate….no friends, it is definitely DARK rich BROWN. I’m yelling to help you spare yourself a major hair disaster if you are planning on using it.
I love the colour. I’ve mixed several colours together for years & have decided to switch to just this one because it gives me just what I’m after: dark brown hair with a red cast to it (instead of neutral or gold).
I recolor my roots frequently but don’t have need to do the length of my hair very often so I’d say the staying power is pretty good.
I’ve used it at least 14 times at the point of this review & will continue to use it until I decide to go lighter.
