This has got to be the most beautiful shade of black I have ever used!!! I have tried many different brands and shades of blacks but I always come back to this cheap $2.89 hair dye from Walmart. It contains no ammonia which is a big plus for me. Also this does not damage my hair as much as other hair dyes. By the way I have semi course thick hair with some damage from dyeing my hair constantly. I absolutely love the color of this black shade. It is intensely black & this is the darkest shade of black I’ve come across with. I also feel that it has some sort of blue undertone in it. I love that it makes my tan skin look a little pale. I don’t recommend this shade if you’re looking for a natural looking black shade because this shade is definetely intense and will look goth like. I will continue to use this shade throughout my life. I always get complimented on my freshly dyed black hair when I use this. Of course I switch hair dyes here and there since I love trying different brands. But this will forever be the best black hair dye for me.

Beautiful color, but it damaged my hair. Idk why, I’ve used other revlon dyes and have never had this problem except with the black dyes. Even if I went black again, I wouldn’t use this product.

I love this hair color. I have thick dark brown hair and I went back to dying my hair black. I love the color and the price. It is almost always on sale somewhere under $5.00 or less. I usually buy two boxes when I color my hair because my hair is thick and long . I do need to touch up my roots the dark brown is coming through. I love it because it covers grays, it does not damage my hair , it comes with instructions and gloves and it has a great conditioner. I wash my hair every other day so when I am going to wash my hair I dye my hair. Of course I use the gloves. I use the dye like mousse dye I put it in my hand after I shake the bottle and cut the tip and I apply it after my hair is covered I tie it in a hair tie wait maybe 30 45 minutes and hit the showers. I rinse my hair and wash it with my shampoo and conditioner and their conditioner as well. Also this hair dye does not make my eyes tear or water . It does not have ammonia . I love it it’s affordable, available pretty much everywhere and the product is a great product . I do highly recommend this hair dye.

I got the color I wanted but the package said cream or so I thought it was since it said cream developer. I was mistaken. I’ve tried cream hair dye before and I’m able to comb it through my hair after applying to make sure I get every strand. I tried combing it with this dye. No way could I. It was stiff and I wasn’t going to break my hair. So now I check my hair and there is a part in the middle didn’t get colored. Fortunately my hair is almost black naturally. Next time I’ll purchase the Revlon Luxurious ColorSilk. That way I’ll be able to get every strand. Another issue I had with it is that it smells like hair dye. Not a nice scent as expected. I should have just gotten the Revlon Luxurious ColorSilk.
It’s been 3 days since I dyed my hair now. I usually wait about a week after dying it before shampooing. My ears and scalp where itching last night by this morning it was becoming unbearable. This has never happened before when I’ve dyed my hair. Had to wash it. As soon as I wet it, it got all hard and dry. So much for leaving your hair in better condition. I had to put a ton of conditioner on my hair and was barely able to comb it with wide tooth comb. Used leave in conditioner, hair oil spray and coconut oil and my hair still feels dry! At least the itching has gone away.
This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with dying my hair.
Over a week since I dyed my hair and it still feels like straw when I wash it and remove all the products I’ve had to use now.

The first time I used this dye was a few years back. I used Garnier nutrisse dye to dye my hair light brown. I grew tired of it and wanted my natural hair color to grow out. I purchased it in black being that my natural hair color is almost black with a reddish undertone. It covered the light brown dye completely and my hair looked so healthy. I was afraid it would dry out my hair but it did not. I still use it to get rid of the red undertone. I took a lippie off because the color tends to fade after a while. I’m not sure how the other colors turn out because I only buy it in black but if you are looking for a black dye choose for this one it’s a true black.

I found this dye OK. I want my hair to be really black like no pieces of brown anywhere. For me, this dye was easy to use. I probably won’t ever find the perfect jet black dye, but I do see myself re using this one .

I will not repurchase this dye again. Let me start by saying I have been dyeing my hair for a long time and have tried most of the dyes on the market at least once. I came across this one and decided to try it. I thought it would be a good idea to try something without ammonia. Unfortunately, I had a reaction to whatever else was in it. I ended up with an irritated scalp and a massive headache and nausea afterwards. The only other time I’ve had a reaction like that was a long time ago when I took my black hair to platinum in under 24hrs. And that time I was expecting the reaction. I also agree with other reviews worth regards to the rinsing. It took for ever and it still wouldn’t run clear. I will not repurchase.

EDIT: I have previously given it THREE stars (since it did give me a beautiful end product) but I’m now giving it ONE star. It’s been a couple of days since I dyed my hair and I STILL get hair dye out of my hair in the shower. Seriously, it seems like the hair dye will continue to come out of my hair forever. This is horrible and will NEVER buy again. My hair is also turning back to light brown and it seems like the dye that is coming off in the shower is the dye that is being stripped out of my hair. I guess the dye never really set in and will eventually all come off a few weeks from now 🙁
My hair is naturally dark brown-black but I previously decided to dye it a lighter brown colour. However, since it’s winter time, I decided that it’ll be a good change to go back to my original colour (or even darker, if possible). I was standing in front of the hair dye aisle at Target for literally twenty minutes, trying to see which black dye would be best for my hair. I was debating whether to get the L’oreal Feria or this Revlon Colorsilk hair dye. I used the Feria one to dye my hair the lighter brown shade that I previously had and I had a really great experience with it. But I saw that this Revlon dye was only 5.99, which is 3 dollars cheaper than the Feria one! Being a broke uni student, I opted for this hair dye (because three dollars can buy me coffee, hehe). That being said, my experience with this box hair dye is bittersweet! The end product is perfect. I love the colour. The hair colour of the model on the box is just like mine after the application! It was VERY dark and my hair was soft and very smooth! But, on to the bad part. This dye was a nightmare to put on. I hated the bottle it came with because you needed scissors to cut off the nozzle. Some hair dyes I’ve tried have a twist-off nozzle and I much prefer it that way since it needs less work! Having said that, I think the worst part about this hair dye is that it stains really well. And I don’t think that’s a good thing when I’m trying to wash off my neck and my face that’s splattered with this dye. Avoid getting this on your body because you will definitely have a hard time getting it off. This also takes forever to wash off in the shower. And when I say forever, I really mean it never came off. I was standing in the shower for 30 minutes, waiting for the water to run clear before I put on my conditioner but noooo. This never came out clear for me. After a total of 50 minutes in the shower, my hair was still not dye-free. The water was still brown with dye. As a result, my towel is stained, my shirt is stained and my fingers are gray. Fun times!
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone. Standing in the shower for almost an hour was a nightmare. I never had that problem with any hair dye before so I was scared and worried. I would look for another dye out there that’s easier to apply, easier to wipe off and would give me fewer stains! And I think the 3 dollars I saved is irrelevant compared to what I went through. I would’ve gladly paid for the Feria had I known what this dye would have me go through.

This is the only black dye I’ll use. It’s ridiculously cheap and works amazingly. My hair is super damaged (years of going from light blonde to red to black to brown to purple… you get the point) but it doesn’t seem to damage it any further. It develops in about 5 minutes, so you don’t have to sit around forever with it on. I don’t have a problem with the size of the conditioner packet, in fact, the lack of a tube probably is what makes this dye so inexpensive compared to others. I did take a lippie off for the how long it takes to rinse this stuff out. After 30 minutes the water STILL doesn’t run clean! It takes longer to rinse out than it does to process. But since it’s so cheap, I don’t mind.

Worst hair color Ive ever used. Its been a month since i dyed my hair and i still have dye coming out of my hair every time i wash. The color started fading within the next day. So now the front of my hair is black and the back is brown. Ugh! so embarrassing!
It was difficult to apply the dye also because it is so watery and yet sticky. The gloves that come with the dye are very low quality and my hands were stained for about 3 days. The bottles make it more difficult to mix since they are not see-through so its hard to see if product mixed thoroughly.
I contacted Revlon and they sent me a $5 coupon on the mail. Will use it for something else rather than dye.
The only plus of this brand is that it is the cheapest. i got 2 boxes for $5.
