I was excited to try this dye. For years I’ve used nice n easy but was tired of having to re-color my hair so often. This dye claims to be fade resistant so I opted to spend the extra $3-$4 a box to try this one. I used the shade 1.4 midnight something or other (blue black). I left it on for only 20 minutes after reading some reviews of this dye causing some people’s hair to fall out in clumps, I obviously panicked. Although I did lose more hair than normal while rinsing I did not lose clumps of it, thank god.
My hair isn’t as soft as it normally is but it is shiny as hell. Almost too shiny? It’s frizzy and plasticky feeling. While straightening my hair it felt as if I was straightening cheap synthetic extensions which I’ve never experienced after using a hair dye. It doesn’t feel damaged, just has a strange texture.
I don’t think I’ll purchase this again, unless by some miracle the color actually does last as long as it claims.

I so rarely give bad reviews but this is more like a warning. I used this as directed. It smelled really strong but I’ve smelled worse. Rinsed this out and it was fine but still smelled so strong. Now, for the devastation…my hair is so stripped that my curls are gone. I’m heart broken. AND, I have washed my hair 3 times and it still smells so strong…guys I have short hair so it’s not like I’m pulling my hair close to my nose and smelling it…it’s like an aura around my head. I have done a lot of things to my hair over the years..I’ve bleached it, burnt it, over processed it but this tops it for the worst box dye I’ve ever used. It didn’t even cover my grays!!! Back to 3.00 Colorsilk for me! This stuff is like 12.99..

I chose 5.24 – Cinnamon Brown from the Deep Brunettes range, a shade very close to my natural hair color when I was in my teens and 20s. It came out more red than expected on my then-virgin chestnut brown hair—almost a darkened copper—but faded nicely after about a month. The included deep conditioner isn’t as slippery and luxurious as, say, the one that comes with L’Oreal haircolors, but I didn’t notice any damage to my hair. Color Ultime is probably the smelliest hair dye I’ve ever used, definitely heavy on the ammonia, so I was actually very pleased with how non-fried my hair was afterward. The unexpected red cast is why I’m detracting a lippy. What follows is all on me: I’m not dinging the product for it, but I do want to warn others away from making the same mistake.
I’ve dyed my hair many times over the years, and never once bothered to do a patch test. I won’t make that mistake again – after rinsing this color out, I itched violently and all over my scalp and body for ~10 hours. It was a very long night. Again: that’s no one’s fault but mine, since the instructions clearly say to perform a patch test beforehand, every time. Please, always do a patch test when using this or any other hair color.

Only box dye I’ve ever HATED. packing was fine, except for the cheap gloves. Any time a box dye is close to $10.00 I expect better gloves, but these were as cheap as they come. And yeah, I chose black and it did dye my hair black. So it gets 2 stars for that. But other than the color, this dye is awful. My hair has never been more damaged; not from bleaching, not from stripping, not from other box dyes. It took me over 30 minutes to brush out my hair when I got out of the shower, and after that I just gave up with some rats nest clumps still left in my hair. My ends feel brittle and dry, even though it comes with this fancy keratin pre treatment. I even used my own favorite miracle conditioning mask and high end leave in conditioner to try help it along while brushing, still feels awful. I’ve never had this bad of an experience with box hair dye, this brand is truly a nightmare. Garnier from now on. I just hope I can restore some of my hairs health soon. Please don’t waste your money on this.

I have used other products similar to this in the past. The ultime looked interesting. It was the biggest disaster of my Hair life . First I got a half inch cut on my finger when opening packaging. Seeing doctor in an hour. My finger is swollen. The product in my opinion did smell. When I applied it my hair started to burn immediately. I waited 5 min and then washed out. I couldn’t take it and thought if my head was burning I could just imagine what it was doing to my hair. My hair came out in clumps. I had sever breakage. The conditioner was a joke. So upset they would ever put out a product like this I hope no one else goes through what I have been through ,

I have never used Schwarzkopf Ultime before, decided to try it because it was on sale and I liked the dark cherry color. It was easy to mix and didn’t have a bad odour. Upon rinsing the color out my hair was very, very dry and knotted. A lot of hair came out in my hands. I had to use the whole tube of conditioner that came with it. After drying and styling, I did like the color, but my hair had a lot of flyaways and felt like straw. This is the worst color I have ever used, after Gosh. I will not be repurchasing this product.

I decided it was time to get rid of the gray along my temples. Usually I use Garnier but saw this product and loved the thought of dying my hair Black Cherry. I am a mouse brown naturall that is very fine.. Bought it, brought it home and used it. Mixing was a breeze and the smell was actually quite pleasant for hair color. There is no strong ammonia smell at all. My hair is about an inch or so below my shoulders. One bottle covered my entire head. There was no burning like you can get from some hair coloring. I rinsed it out after 30 minutes and used their conditioner. Not much I can say about the conditioner. Had to use the entire tube on my hair. Washed and then conditioned my hair with my shampoo and conditioner. I absolutely fell in love with the color. It’s dark and rich and the red shows nicely in the right lighting. I won’t color my hair any other color from now on.

1.4 Sapphire Black: Beautiful box sleek with lots of Rich Luxury Images from Schwartzkopf (a trusted name ) Claudia Schiffer how could I go wrong? Apparently very easily ! The product is well packaged, and easy to mix with plenty of product for a Med Length hair . No harsh odours and decent applicator bottle. But that’s where it ends. Maybe the developer volume is just too high – you can feel it burning as you start the application. I kept a sharp eye on the clock and washed it out 5 minutes early but even then could feel how over processed my hair felt. Well after a good wash with a mild shampoo I applied the Pale Peach coloured cream conditioner…it felt cheap and thin and really didn’t do much so I used a good amount of my Coconut conditioner to try to reduce some of the damage.
My hair felt badly over processed. Last time I remember anything like this was when I was 16 and I let my best friend give me a home perm! Truly a lackluster performance for Schwarzkopf Color Ultime .
Little background, I haven’t coloured in 7 months and generally just stay with my natural shade of black with nothing stronger than Vol 10/20. My gray is about 15-20% now so I wanted more coverage this time and chose1.4 Sapphire Black.
Looks like all the research and money went into making the box look good – about what you expect from a Super Model – nice packaging but Schwarzkopf was always know for quality and high performance with gentle dyes and conditioners rich with vitamins and natural enhancers.
Sad to say this is a product you should really take a pass on ladies, and gents too 🙂

2 stars for good smell and the fact that my hair wasn’t damaged. I used this to cover fake bleached strawberry blonde. The dark brown shade (forget exact name brown velvet maybe) turned my hair flat, no undertone, shoe polish black. Not a pretty black. After 2 days and NO washings, it started to come off near my face and hairline and show the strawberry blonde: permanent my eye! My roots are dark brown so it was not turbo growing roots or sumthin. That is definitely something I’d expect from a semi permanent dye – not one labeled level 3, ‘grey coverage’ and all that. I’d stay away especially if grey. At least the dark shades to cover light hair. Maybe the lighter shades are better? I wouldn’t try again. Went over with garnier dark brown #40 and it was superb.

I do not recommend this product. I am experienced at coloring my hair at home and I have normal hair that was in great condition. This product is not very good. There was barely enough dye or conditioner to apply to my mid-length hair (I have a lob – its not long). I have never had another brand where I ran out of product. The dye was incredibly harsh on my hair. During the rinse out my hair was breaking all over my head like crazy. The end result is hair that looks very fried and frizzy. Again, I followed the instructions and did not leave the dye on longer than directed. The color rinse out process also took much longer than any other dye I have ever used. 30 minutes for first rinse until water ran clear and then there was still dye coming off after the conditioner step. In the interim dye was deposited on the towel I used to towel dry and the collar of my bathrobe. The color result is very flat and monochrome and it looks like “bad home dye job.” Posting this review so that others know to avoid. There are much better products out there. I will never repurchase any hair color from this brand. This is the worst hair dye I have ever purchased.
