I was expecting mild damage to my hair as peroxide tends to do so. I did not expect THIS much damage though. Many reviews claim they didn’t experience any damage, I don’t believe these people or perhaps they were oblivious to the minor changes in their hair. I unfortunately did experience hair damage from this product. This dried my incredibly healthy hair out and also snapped hair at the roots. I used this product a total of four times as directed and stopped when I realised it was just too damaging. You don’t notice the damage when the product is in the hair, you notice the damage a couple of weeks after you use the product. Straight after blowdrying your hair with this product, it looks glossy, smells divine and you don’t notice damage. The negative effects take place weeks/days afterwards.
It hardly lightened my hair as well. Perhaps HALF a shade at the most – and only in the areas I SATURATED with product – which are now incredibly damaged (luckily I only used this product to (attempt) highlights – which you can’t even notice in the sunlight). The damage caused for the effect was not worth it. You can hardly see a difference. I was not expecting a miracle, just 2-3 of shades lighter like the box says. Not that I am gullible enough to believe their marketing but I hoped that it would lighten it a LITTLE more. Or at least not FRY my hair like it did for a measly 1/2 shade lighter. Not even.
I think if you want to lighten your hair, you are better off gently bleach bathing your hair with coconut oil. Don’t waste your time with this gradual lightener unless you’re lazy and don’t mind drying your hair out & creating split ends. Do not use this product if you have fine, wavy Caucasian hair like myself. This is probably better if you have thicker hair that can take a beating. Mine was clearly far too fragile for this. Then again I have quite long hair so if you don’t really care for keeping your length, then go for it!

It seems like not too many people know about/use/review this product, but if people compliment my hair, they never believe that the colour comes from a tube of “jelly.” I’ve re-purchased this product once already, and mainly use it after the shower. The box does say you can apply it to dry or damp hair, and I’ve tried both, but I prefer using it on damp hair because the product helps to hold hair styles. It’s kind of like a 2-in-1 when using it with damp hair and then styling.
I’ve always used minimal heat on my hair (about once a week, but usually less) and I don’t have any problems with dryness. With this product, it’s important to trim ends every so often to keep split ends from developing. This product has hydrogen peroxide, so I try to condition my hair well in the shower and don’t wash it every day. I use the product every so often, but no more than once a week.
I have thick, wavy hair, so the product sometimes doesn’t lighten the bottom layer of my hair because the sun only ever shines on the top layer of my hair. I don’t mind it much, but I pay more attention to the bottom layers when drying my hair to get a more even look. I strongly recommend putting the product in and going out into the sun. Hair drying can be damaging enough, so I rarely hair dry with the product in my hair for too long. I get the best results when I put the product in, get ready, and then spend hours in the sun. It’s really easy and relaxed in that way. It’d probably be really good for vacations in warm places, and is perfect for the summer.
I’d recommend this product to people who don’t have damaged hair, and don’t use heat on their hair every day. It seems to be more subtle for me as well, but I have dark hair, and those with lighter hair may find that it changes their hair colour more intensely. I’m finishing my first bottle, which took me 5 months to finish. My hair is about 2-3 shades lighter, though it looks much brighter in the sun.
It’s a good product, and I’ve already re-purchased, so I can’t say anything bad about it.
EDIT: After a 10 hour trip to a lake, my hair colour is almost a shade lighter. I put the same amount I always do (about the size of a dime for both sides) and stayed out in the sun, though I still wore a hat and was mostly walking around or in the shade. I was surprised to see pretty dramatic results. I think my hair will lighten quite a bit this summer. I would suggest using this product throughout the sunny, warm months. In a few weeks, my hair colour has lightened much more than when I used it during the winter. It’s easier to save product for sunny days in order to efficiently get the colour you want.

I really love this product!
It doesn’t damage my hair at all and it lightens up my hair so well. I used to be dark brown with reddish undertone because of Henna, and I was always dreaming of becoming a redhead but was afraid of dying my hair and damaging them. So this product was really a savior!
You can see my before and after results on this video of mine:
Isn’t it a nice color? 🙂

I adore this product!
I am very lucky to have naturally very light, ash to white blonde hair. In the winter months however, it tends to darken slightly and so I occasionally get it highlighted (although no one except me can ever tell!). Years of teenage-hair-dye-mishaps have left my hair in a bit of a sorry state though, so I refrain from dying it often. I chose this product in order to selectively highlight some bits of hair around my face to make it a bit more summery. It requires heat to activate it (like a hair dryer) and also the sunshine (if you’re lucky!).
I chose this product in the lightest shade. I applied it to strands at the front of my hair (which was dry), and then blowdried and styled as normal. After about 4-5 applications (and lots of sun!) I can safely say that this has really lightened the areas it was applied to. In fact, they’re almost bordering on white now!
My only complaints with this product are that firstly, it only comes with one pair of gloves, yet instructs you to do more than one application. I ended up using the gloves once, getting them very messy, and after that using my hands (making sure I washed them thoroughly afterwards). This is why I only gave the product 3 lippies for packagaing (sorry, L’Oreal!).
Secondly, I think that some people may find the tube a little small – however this is most likely down the fact it’s aimed at those who want to highlight, or subtly dip-dye, and not those who want whole-head colour.
Overall though, it’s a lovely product and hasn’t dried out the areas it’s been applied to. It’s a cute, sealable bottle as well so I’ll definitely be taking it on holiday with me!
