I have found my new lightening product, this is AMAZING! This is a true 9 level lift unlike any I have used before 40 mins (max is 50) and I was light yellow on virgin hair. Having oils and karatin in both the lightening powder as well as the developer, this leaves the hair soft and with little to no damage. It does not have the harsh chemical smell in fact the developer smells floral and fruity kind of tone.
I did use 35 volume developer which is NOT RECOMMENDED (they recommend their 5- 25 volume developers) but I also know how difficult my hair is to lighten and also know it can handle a 40 volume. Now normally when I do this I always end up burning my scalp as I always do on scalp bleaching (like I shouldn’t do) but with this product there was only a slight tingle. I also end up with that god awful brassy orange or yellow even after using a toner, NOT THIS TIME!
The toner I used was the Platinum using a 5 volume developer, left on for 10 mins and done, I would recommend if you do not want the deeper looking platinum color to leave on for less time depending on how brassy your hair is. If you are at anything lighter than pale yellow I would recommend 5 mins at most or the deep platinum will start (you will notice the toner getting darker) I do have some spots in my hair that ended up lightening past the light yellow to the palest yellow stage and those came out a wee deeper platinum than I would have liked, but the rest is fine.
They also have a toning shampoo and conditioner in this line that ill continue to make the blondes brighter definitely worth going to Sallys and trying it out as you an always return it if your test strand doesn’t come out as you’d hoped 🙂
**AS ALWAYS PLEASE PLEASE DO A TEST STRAND BEFORE USING ANY NEW LIGHTING PRODUCT ON YOUR HAIR!**

BB 9 level lift powder did a beautiful job and lifting during a balayage on level 3 precoloured hair. Client wanted coppery undertones so there was no need to tone when we were done. I used the 35 vol as it was only applied to ends and she has synthetic pigment from previous colourings in the hair. Her hair was also in great repair. I would’ve chosen a lower volume peroxide had her hair been over processed. The oil infused peroxide is very effective at not allowing hair to burn and feel dry. I followed with a protein treatment afterwards to treat the hair but the results left the my client smiling from ear to ear. The only reason I did not give the overall rating a 5 is because the powder can be kind of lumpy which I do work out after rigorous mixing.
It’s so important to emphasize the repair or the clients hair before considering this product or any bleach process for that matter. We often don’t hear about the hair history of those reviewing which can certainly contribute to the varied results. Im always amazed when people are surprised that there is breakage and damage done through the bleaching process…anyone who suggests that bleach can be a conditioning treatment to hair is just a lie that we like to believe in. It sells repair products but isn’t true as there are many factors contributing to the health of hair. I use this monthly at the roots, I have had no issue with breakage…I don’t over heat my hair and take care to add moisture and repair treatments to help it recover. We can not expect a product to care about our hair more than we care to do things to it that can compromise it’s health. This product is a super star, but needs to be used with care.

Why were my results so different from others? Not everyone’s scalp and hair is the same. I started my grand entrance into the platinum blonde club with a lot of research. I liked the added ingredients and was intrigued that it would lighten up to nine levels. I purchased this at my local Sally Beauty Supply to know it was fresh, authentic, and so I could pick the saleswomen’s brains. They had not yet tried this brand but had no complaints from it either.
Blonde Brilliance is by Beyond the Zone which is owned by TIGI. From their own packaging and website, I learned the following:
On the scalp applications, i.e. roots: Do NOT exceed a level 15 developer.
It dries EXTREMELY quickly.
Do not process for more than 50 minutes.
Do NOT add heat.
And in general, for the love of your dye job, use only a clear cap or plastic wrap.
PREP:I refrained from washing my hair for a week. The night before by applying Redken Extreme Anti Snap conditioner to dry hair then followed with Jamaican castor seed oil to my scalp and hair. In the morning, I rinsed out the conditioner with lukewarm water-no shampoo of any kind. I soaked my hair and scalp with more of the oil and left that in once it was towel dried but still damp. It protected my scalp and hair without interfering with the lightening itself.
I LOVED this stuff! I am a medium brown naturally. Browns are naturally high in red, although I have been told my undertone is actually ash. For the first time using it, it went very well. The only caveat was the dry time. It made it difficult to apply quickly and precisely as well as process efficiently. Once it dries, it wont process further. Due to this, a few small shocks of my hair were left at a golden tone. The rest? Snow white. Shocking white. My scalp didn’t burn or get sore either, and the smell was blissfully low.
Takeaway: I am impressed and will continue to use this.
I suggest a 1:1 ratio of powder to developer as opposed to package directions. I used a Wella toner with the Blonde Brilliance developer for my desired platinum end result.
Price: $14 for the bleach, $3.49 for the developer.

9/20/2018: As of tomorrow it’ll be 3 years since my last update. I have outgrown all the damaged caused by this disgusting product and never repurchased it. Thank goodness.

8/21/2015 Edit: Its been almost a year since my hair disaster using this powder lightener and I am STILL paying the price. I now have to use Olaplex and really expensive treatments. Thank god my hair kept growing and the breakage is pretty much at my ear length now. But it permanently ruined my hair and itll be about 3 more years until I grow out all the damaged caused.
**** you, Blond Brilliance Powder Lightener.

This product is god awful and ruined my hair. I wish I could rewind time and never touch this brand. The only decent product they have is the Developer level 5, and that’s because it is the lowest developer level on the market so it’s the least damaging.
I was so excited when Blond Brilliance launched. I am very hair competent and experienced. As I write this review, I am 23 years old and have been dying my hair at home for the last 13 years. I started early, yes, but my natural dark ash blonde color is ugly.
Blond Brilliance Express Nine Level Powder Lightener damaged my hair more than any bleaching product ever has. I did everything correctly, and yet it still fried my hair to the point where a layer broke off 3 inches from my scalp.
This stuff dries very quickly and makes it difficult to spread on your roots. If that’s not bad enough, it is a NIGHTMARE to wash out. I clarified my hair 3 times and there was still a coating of it on my hair.
Save yourself some mental anguish and do not touch this powder lightener. I went back to liquid lighteners after this experience. It’s safe to say I really learned my lesson.

I love this lightener!
I have coarse, black, Asian hair and this lifts my level 1 hair to a level 9-10! I used the same brand of developer in 25vol, because I know that my hair can handle it (be cautious if you have thin hair, use the 15 vol!) I dye my hair various pastel colours, so I need to get a really light yellow before toning it. This product brings my regrowth to a level 9, and then toning brings it closer to a level 10. This lightener barely damages my hair and doesn’t have a harsh chemical smell. It applies evenly (with a 1:2 ratio of powder to developer), but it does agitate my scalp a bit after, but I just use coconut oil/aloe gel to soothe it and it’s completely fine.
I do recommend this to people with dark hair, because it really does lift nine levels.

I had a sample of this and used it to touch up my roots; my natural hair is between a level 7 and 8 ash blonde, which is pretty easy to lift to a level 10.
“Extra Strength,” “Extra Moisture,” and claims to lift up to 9 levels with a 25 developer while conditioning the hair to prevent damage. This product does not live up to its claims; it’s very drying and can’t even lift two levels properly. To its credit, this bleach didn’t burn like the lightening toner and basic toners in the Blond Brilliance line, but it was unbelievably itchy. While the directions did say not to use 25 volume developer on the scalp and I ignored that, I’ve used 30 volume developer and bleach on my head that didn’t itch that badly, so I’ll leave that one to the formula of the product more than anything else.
However, the lightening came out patchy and only lifted my already light natural hair to a level 9 (and in a few places didn’t lighten at all even though the areas were thoroughly saturated); I can’t even imagine trying to take black hair to blonde with this. I did my roots and left it on for about forty minutes. I ended up re-bleaching half of my head with an Ion lightener.
