This is HANDS DOWN the best shaving cream/gel/etc. I’ve ever used. I never thought I’d have a holy grail shaving cream but here we are.
The Venus with a Touch of Olay Shave Gel comes in three scents: Sugarberry Bliss, Vanilla Cashmere, and Violet Swirl. I’ve tried two out of three and will get down to describing the fragrances after I talk about everything else there is to love about this product.
Price point is less than three dollars. You get 7 oz of product which is typical for a shaving gel. The packaging is actually nice for a shaving product that comes in a metal can. I’ve never had a problem with this leaving a ring of rust on the edge of my tub where I store it.
As I’ve mentioned, it is a gel which dispenses without a hitch and transforms into a beautiful foamy texture. This stuff sticks to my skin… I’m not sure how else to describe it. But sometimes I use a shaving gel and it’s like I put it on my leg then it all slides off before I can actually finish shaving. That doesn’t happen with this. Also, sometimes with shaving gel, towards the end of the bottle, it starts dispensing as more of a liquid as opposed to a gel, and doesn’t foam up properly. That doesn’t happen with this either. Not to mention, I get a clean shave every time.
One other thing worth mentioning is that although there is “a touch of Olay” in this, you WILL still need a moisturizer after shaving… this product isn’t THAT much of a miracle. It claims to have “5 times more moisturizers” vs bar soap and while that may be true, you’ll probably still require more moisturization.
So now on to the fun part… the scents. Sugarberry Bliss is the first one I’ve ever tried. It smells very sweet with a hint of berry. I guess I should mention that… both of the ones I’ve tried are SWEET. Not sure about the Violet Swirl one as I haven’t tried it but I’d imagine it’s a sweet floral. If you have an aversion to sweet scents in beauty products then I wouldn’t recommend this because the fragrance is also pretty strong. It doesn’t linger on the skin really after you get out of the shower but while you’re in there, if you don’t like the prospect of sweetness, it could be overwhelming.
The one I’m using now is Vanilla Cashmere and OH MY GOSH. This stuff makes me want to shave every day. It smells like french vanilla coffee creamer or Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar scent. In the store I opened the lid to smell it and handed it to my boyfriend and he immediately threw it in the cart and was like “yes, we’re getting that.” I’m glad he loves it just as much as I do (he doesn’t use it but knows the type of fragrances I’m into and enjoys the smell when I use them.)
I know many people think that shaving cream is an unnecessary product to buy when you can use conditioner, etc. But a three dollar bottle will last a month or easily more, depending on your size and how frequently you shave. If you do like shave gels and you’re a fan of sweet scents, definitely give these a shot! 🙂
