The Crabtree & Evelyn line includes eight differently scented conditioning hand washes. This review is for the lavender scented hand wash.
The Lavender Conditioning Hand Wash is a soap-free formula. It contains a smooth, non-stripping formula that lathers up very nicely. A bit of product truly goes a long way.
Crabtree & Evelyn claims that their hand washes contain “skin-softening botanical extracts”. I personally didn’t find that the hand wash softened my skin, but it is also didn’t dry out my skin either. What I can say is that it is definitely less drying than most other traditional hand washes, and that for most part, it left my skin well-balanced.
The Lavender Conditioning Hand Wash contains lavender oil. It smells VERY strongly of lavender. After rinsing the soap off and drying my hands, the lavender smell remained on my skin for a long time.
This is a fantastic hand wash to have in your kitchen, specifically to be used after handling heavily scented foods like garlic or onions. It completely eliminates any lingering food scents from your fingers/hands (even a stubborn garlicky smell), and it will not strip your skin.
The bottle and soap pump for the Crabtree & Evelyn hand wash line are very well-designed. The bottle won’t tip over or budge easily, even when using the pump. I was most impressed with the pump. It is very well-controlled; only a bit of product will come out gradually with each pump. You really have to sufficiently press the pump down for the soap to come out. This is great for those of us with kids who can tend to get carried-away with soap pumps, as a fair bit of effort is needed to vigorously pump the product out. I want to be clear that the pump is not difficult to use and doesn’t necessitate a lot of strength, it is just very-well controlled.
As a forewarning, please be aware that the scent(s) of Crabtree & Evelyn’s products are definitely not for the faint of heart. All of their products are heavily scented, and the Lavender Conditioning Hand Wash is no exception. That being said, if you are a person who is sensitive and/or negatively affected by heavily scented products and/or fragrances, the Crabtree & Evelyn line is probably not for you.
Optically, all of the Crabtree & Evelyn conditioning hand washes are very pretty. The hand washes come in vibrant, eye-catching colours; the Lavender wash is a soft violet colour. The bottles are entirely clear, with the exception of the product information and company logo.
The conditioning hand washes come in one size (250ml / 8.5oz). I purchased mine for $18.00 (+tax) in-store (in Canada). The Crabtree & Evelyn website sells them for $23.00CAN.
This product is obnoxiously expensive, but it will last you a very long time (mainly because of the well-designed pump, and because you honest and truly don’t need a lot of product). I will repurchase it mainly because of the formula’s effectiveness at killing lingering food smells on my hands while still leaving my skin well-balanced.
