Notes from Bpal site: Ink-black musk and dried blackberries, midnight opoponax and sweet labdanum.
This fragrance is as much about atmosphere and perception as it is about scent. The name comes from a line in a poem by Lord Brooke Fulke Greville, known in Elizabethan times for his tragedies….and he died a tragic, painful death himself, so I felt this was an appropriate spooky choice to wear for Halloween.
This is black musk and a hint of sweet blackberry—not much blackberry, but a light earthy tang in the opening. Both the opoponax and labdanum give it a sweet warm resinous drydown, and there is something spicy in there—cinnamon-like that could be from the labdanum, but spicier than I’ve encountered from that note before. This is a haunting, but hopeful fragrance…the opening feels happy and as it darkens and deepens it grows into something more. I quite enjoy it. As with all of the fragrance oils, this sits close to the skin but I actually had some moderate sillage which surprised me—I put it on, left the room, came back and could smell it lingering in the air.
