While this is a pleasant scent, make no mistake, it is not really distinctive or wildly complex. A powdery rose-peach (with a “vintage makeup” vibe), on a candied, artificial vanilla, hints of nondescript woods. It’s like a “training wheels” for a timid person not yet ready to handle a full-on Guerlain, you might say. It has nothing to do, as all have noticed, with the original 1933 VOL DE NUIT (which is fabulous). VdNE reminds me of a greatly weakened/diluted SAMSARA. The base definitely has the recognizable “Guerlinade” of iris, heliotrope, almond, sandalwood, vanilla. This scent is so mild, that one could easily layer it with another Guerlain having more individuality and personality, like SAMSARA, L’HEURE BLEUE or APRÈS L’ONDÉE. VdNE is a scent that truly will not offend anyone, so may be good for day/office wear?

Notes: peach, rose, iris, jasmine, woods, vanilla and amber.
This fragrance opens as a spicy floral – though rich it is not cloying at all. At first I see luminous and dry floral notes which are later partially replaced by creamier, almost vanillic sweet notes. This appears to be the heart accord since the scent does not change from there on. Subtle touches of spices, flowers and wood add zest to the melange of warm vanilla and amber notes. Undoubtedly pretty, it is not particularly creative or daring scent. The dry down is mainly comprised of warm woodsy notes with a faint trace of vanilla. Lasts more than six hours on my skin.

As others have said, this smells nothing like Vol de Nuit. It smells like the upscale Guerlain Attrape Coeur, light version. Attrape Coeur is a rich, deep, quality floriental–one I admire but never have been able to wear because it is so heavy and overpowering. If it were a color, AC would be a deep, rich burgundy. Vol de Nuit Evasion is slightly lighter and gentler, and I prefer it. That is not to say this is a “lightweight”; VdN Evasion’s character is still quite rich, but more of a deep rose rather than burgundy. I think both more appropriate for fall/winter evenings.

If you are familiar with Vol de Nuit in any form, don’t expect this to smell like Guerlain’s famously sharp, “dangerous” daffodil fragrance. Apparently this is the edt form of Attrape Couer, deceptively tagged with the Vol de Nuit name for reasons unknown to me. Fans of Attrape Couer will appreciate the soft, creamy floral and sweet almond accord of this fragrance, and those who are annoyed by the plastic vanilla base found in recent Guerlain perfumes like L’Instant will be pleasantly relieved to find it nowhere to be found in this concoction. This is soft, subtle and slightly gourmand, complex enough to be interesting, but still very easy to wear. A tasteful addition to the Guerlain line, with a name sure to confuse fans of Vol de Nuit and elude lovers of Attrape Couer everywhere. I hope this becomes more widely available.

Airport trolley vomit. or maybe i’m just miffed because this is nothing like the regular vol de nuit on me. okay, i’ll try to be fair. It is a powdery floriental. Similar in some ways to the newest Ubar– though no animalic bent here. I’ve heard it as sharing strains of Chanel’s Rue Cambon, and G’s Pamplelune, both of which I really do not like. So I’m not a good contestant, but I’m not anti powerdery floriental. I love Habanita in a way that isn’t civilized, and Habanita IS powdery. I just find this Evasion kind of fru fru trashy and headache inducing.

With all the talk about what has been going on at Guerlian since LVMH took over, I didn’t really expect too much from VdN Evasion, but as I was in Paris I couldn’t pass it up at the airport. When I got home I was delighted to find a fragrance that is pure Guerlain. I like the original Vol de Nuit, and while this fragrance smells very different, it resembles it in character. Both fragrances feature the contrast of powdery and floral notes with a dry and woody heart to come up with something that is uniquely Guerlain. However, this newer perfume is lighter, and might appeal to those who find Guerlain interesting, but difficult to wear. On the other hand, it is interesting enough to appeal to seasoned fans of the house.

I have to bow to the almost perfect review by bmichlig. She captured the essence of this fragrance…
On my side, I have to say that I got a lovely decant in a swap thanks to a generous lady.
What can I say? WOW! It starts off with a bunch of aldheides – even if aldheides are not listed in the notes – and that scared me a little as I am not a fan of aldheides. But they do fade quickly.
Then a floral, warm heart reveals itself. I can smell an understated rose, and some ripe fruits. To me, it smells like berries (not peach, as listed, but each nose is different!).
And the dry down is the best part: Iris, Iris and Iris… soft, powdery and warm. Close to skin.
Again, iris is not left alone, amber and vanilla are there to give sillage and tenacity (yes the staying power is incredible).
It is so comforting: like a warm blanket, like your favourite cashmere sweater, like a cup of herbal/berries tea (indeed, to me it smells like a warm, ripe berries’ juice). A scent skin.
Feminine and very elegant, it is sophisticated and exclusive.
A masterpeice, indeed!

I had to go to Paris to get this fragrance. So I did. Being the biggest fan of the original Vol de Nuit, I just couldn’t bear the idea of not having this version.
Vol De Nuit Evasion is not like the classic Vol de Nuit. It’s more “in your face”, more bold. I do wear Vol de Nuit in EDT and pure perfume, so I dare to say that Vol De Nuit Evasion has some similarity to the pure perfume. Vol De Nuit Evasion is one new Guerlain which smells like one from before. From everything created by the house of Guerlain after Chamade, this one I think is the most old-fasioned fragrance. The Guerlinade accord is there, and though the ingredients are not the same as in Vol de Nuit, both fragrances share the same mood. Vol De Nuit Evasion is a blast from the past, and a very good one. It’s in the line of Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleue, so nostalgic that’s almost unbearable. It will not repalse the classic “flight” in my heart, but it will be right there next to it.

My nose is a little “off” right now, so please take this review with a grain of salt, but Vol de Nuit Evasion smells incredibly similar to Guerlain Attrape Coeur and Parfums MDCI Promesse de l’Aube. I get sweet, almost candied florals over a smooth and powdery wood base. It’s a little more difficult to find since it’s only sold in French duty-free stores, but for 1/3 the price of the other two it’s definitely a bargain if you’re able to get your hands on a bottle.

I had some Euros I had to get rid of at the Paris airport. After a week of disappointing perfume shopping, I grabbed this off the shelf and ran for the plane. OMG, what a *fabulous* perfume! People want decants and samples and I get an anxiety attack b/c I know I won’t be able to get it again unless I go back to France. I didn’t see “regular” Vol de Nuit, nor have I tried it so I cannot compare them. Evasion is lightly aldehydic and floral, great lasting power, and you won’t be able to stop smelling yourself.
