This is a fresh take on vetiver. I find this scent to be fairly unisex, like most of Diptyque’s scents are. These days most fragrances are unisex in my opinion. There is grapefruit in the scent, which makes it very fresh and almost juicy. This performs well in warmer and colder weather. The EDP version is a bit more woody and deeper, whereas this is fresher.

I bought Diptyque’s Vetyverio as part of a travel set with 10ml sprays, so it was more or less by chance that I even got to experience it. As a preface, I don’t really care much for vetiver as a fragrance note, so I cautiously sprayed it on a paper strip first. I was to my surprise greeted by the fresh citrusy opening and a soft spicy heart which turned into a skin scent. The sparkly citrus kept shining through and made this creation a very pleasant surprise. Overall I consider this is a very light, airy scent which is neither too sweet, nor particularly masculine. Vetyverio in my view is truly unisex. Due to my extensive collection I don’t wear this often enough to justify a full bottle, but I do appreciate having this small travel size at hand. Anyone who appreciates just a hint of the famous note without the full heft that it often has may like this Diptyque a lot, while anyone who is looking for a fragrance dominated by vetiver may well find Vetyverio too weak in that regard.

This is a very unisex Vetiver to wear that is nice on men for women. It’s very citrusy a swarm and inviting. Very light and good for day use. It’s comforting and bright.

I’m pleasantly surprised by this scent! It is a little wisp of a thing, compared to most vetivers, but it does a great job of softening and freshening the vetiver smell. Personally, I would rather wear a big loud vetiver on one arm and spray something citrusy on the other to get a similar effect, but this is definitely worth a shot if you like vetiver but can’t take the strength of most vetiver scents.
I tried this at around 11 am and added Sycomore on the other hand an hour later. The top notes were definitely drowned out by Sycomore but towards the late afternoon and early evening the two scents were almost indistinguishable. It’s definitely more of a “shimmering” scent than Sycomore or other vetivers, moving in and out of focus as the day goes on.

Notes: mandarin, grapefruit, lemon, bergamot, ylang-ylang, rose, geranium, carrot seed, nutmeg, clove, cedar, vetiver and musk.
This fragrance opens with an accord of vetiver mixed with light flower and citrus notes. The tropical grass is not smoky and earthy as usual, but creamy and subtly spicy, almost like the rice note of Miller&Bertaux’s A Quiet Morning. This is due to the careful blend of vetiver, rose and nutmeg. On my skin the heart accord is a geranium-sweetened rose wrapped in a sheer layer of vetiver with subtle specks of spices and cedar. The citrus notes have not gone yet, they bring air and sparkle to the composition. However, the mix of woodsy notes and bergamot does not react well with my skin chemistry, because I notice a sweaty-metallic undertone in the accord which is typical of this particular kind of citrus. Nonetheless, this summery Diptyque is very pleasant and subtle, therefore office-friendly and suitable for anyone. Lasts eight hours on my skin.

When I first dabbed on Vetyverio from my Luckyscent vial, I thought “someone mixed up their samples and this is something else than Vetyverio”. But I read the notes and let the drops bloom a bit on my wrists, and then realized this was the right juice.
Which is unfortunate.
Because if you’re going to name your creation Vetyverio, you’d like it to *mostly* smell of vetyver. The vetyver in this perfume is there, but it’s just about the most emasculated, wimpy little thread of incarnation of the mightly root. And it only appears for a few minutes, at that, before disappearing into a synthetic musk skin scent. Not that vetyver always needs to be testosterone-driven to please. Sel de Vetyver by the Different Company is a fabulous example of the sheer, beachy, salt skin scent vetyver can acquire. Diptyque’s version smells mostly like Prada Eau d’Iris. It’s got that fresh musky skin note very apparent in most of Prada’s Eau collection. It’s light, fresh, a bit bright and -dare I say- fruity. There are days when that particular fragrance would fit the bill. Except if I want to smell like Prada’s number, I’ll get that.

Pleasant enough floral with no discernible vetyver in it, unless its presence is so light that’s what my nose perceives as a white tea note. It would be great in summer, and I don’t mean this in a bad way. Very little sillage.
