It has Rose. It had oud. It has PRAILINE! This is gorgeousssss.
So what’s more is I can wear this even when I have a cold/headache/migraine. I can only say this for this perfume and nectarine blossom and honey. These two just never bother me. I don’t know if jm uses pure ingredients necessarily, but they smell very pure.
Unlike the nectarine blossom I like that this doesn’t attract wasps.

A delicate gourmand fragrance. A little floral, but not too much. The rose comes through on the top but becomes sweeter and softer as it dries down. The oud wood tempers the sweetness. The end result is sexy, sophisticated, and timeless. My husband generally doesn’t like floral fragrances, but he loves this one. I have the body cream and the fragrance. Simply divine! My favorite fragrance of ALL time. This has replaced Miss Dior, which I used to love but now smells like a synthetic department store fragrance compared to Jo Malone’s Velvet Rose and Oud.

This is the most expensive perfume I have ever bought, but I have no regrets!
My sister can’t stand the smell, but I love it and my boyfriend likes to nuzzle himself on my neck when I wear it.
2 pumps and that’s enough. Has this sweet, rosy, peppery tone on me and it smells rich and full. Like I’m bathing in luxury.

Best fragrance ever. Sweet from praline. Full-bodied (like a red wine) from a Moroccan rose. Peppery yet mellow, from cloves and a dark mysterious wood base, largely if not exclusively from the ever-chic and timelessly exotic oud wood. Wish this was available in a smaller (and cheaper) size, as I do like to rotate fragrances and always am willing to try new, so I don’t want to have such a high cost for and so much to use of one, even if it is so unique and beloved. Trying to find a cheaper alternative in Atelier Cologne’s Rose anonyme, which is very nice and lovely, but is just a bit more crowded by other notes, than the Jo Malone, so I don’t like it as well. It also lakes a lot of the frutiness from the praline in the Jo Malone, so it has a different enough identity to like and use both potentially, and might be preferable to some, who don’t like the jo Malone sweetness. I recommend both. 🙂 Love this one best, though 🙂

Too much oud, not enough rose. Initially, this frag was a sweet rose, but as it dried down all I got was a heavy sugary oud. No spice, no rose. Too bad, because it seemed like a promising rose fragrance.

I’ve got this in the dry oil and it’s absolutely lovely normally nothing can take me away from pomegranite noir but this did and I’m sure at some point I’ll purchase the cologne. Normally I don’t like rose scents but this is a very likeable wearable sweet rose smell that’s not at all “granny draw liner” probably thanks to the praline and other Notes, believe me if you like sweeter smells you will deff like this one

I first tried this in a dry oil and instantly fell in love.To me this scent is heaven.I am comforted by its aroma.I just had to buy the cologne intense.I want to wear it everyday inc summer nights.Im not usually a rose fan but this is my top five fav.I have layered it with dark amber and ginger lily.Oud and bergamot…wild fig and cassis…Lime mandarine and bazil..
I have samples of other colognes that I was given to layer it…
But my fav is it alone with the matching dry oil beneath.

I’ve been enjoying samples of this for a month, and my wonderful husband bought it for me for Christmas (along with JM English Pear & Freesia). I have always loved all things rose, and I love the sexy treatments of rose with woods, ambers and incenses. Rose and oud isn’t a novel concept by any stretch of the imagination, and countless other perfume houses have done it extremely well (By Kilian Rose Oud is one obvious shining, but pricey, example). JM’s version distinguishes itself with a whisper of praline, which is hard to catch at first because the rose takes the spotlight in Act I. Oud is slightly more demure, but after a couple of hours, when you nuzzle in close, it’s become more of an ensemble, and the 3 main characters are working together beautifully, with spicy clove peeking in here and there. In another couple of hours the praline comes forward to wrap it up and have the final, mouth-watering word.
What I love about JM’s take on the classic Arabian is that it avoids the “mysteriously complex” cliche and just delivers a handful of beautiful notes that stand on their own merit, in a balanced and elegant way. It’s very, very sexy.
Of course, part of the fun of Jo Malone colognes is combining them to create your own “bespoke” scents. I hope we all realize that you can do that with ANY fragrance, it doesn’t have to be JM. But the reason JM’s work nicely in that capacity is that they are simpler and more straightforward. I think JM’s Velvet Rose & Oud makes the perfect base for combining with lots of different fragrances. I wanted to try something that would push it to the softer side, and fell in love with JM English Pear & Freesia. The combination is heavenly!
So, while Velvet Rose & Oud isn’t the most unique, it’s a certainly a very well-crafted Arabian, and the wink of praline is just enough to make it lovable and wearable, sexy but not slutty, and a wonderful base for combining.

I really enjoyed this spicy rose scent, but it seems like a watered down version of Agent provocateur. I think it’s too expensive.

Jo Malone’s website describes this cologne as: “Darkest Damask rose. Rich and textural, wrapped with smoky oud wood. Spiked with clove, decadent with praline. Magnetic.”
I would normally not have spritzed this, as I’m not a huge oud or wood fan, but the sales associate at Nordstrom suggested I sample it.
I was blown away by how delicious it smelled at first spritz – like a true gourmand cologne with rose, oud and delightful sweet notes (I detected vanilla but the sales associate said it was praline).
As the scent dried down on me, it dried down to a spicey rose and i lost all sweetness. I’ve read some other reviews out there and people say this is “too sweet”. I didn’t get that at all. On me it is a very wearable, spicy rose but not that special either. There are lots of this type of fragrance out there. I personally wish the warm, sweet vanilla/praline note had been more pronounced on the dry down 🙁
Happy sniffing!
