With just one drop I smell like one of those yellow tree-shaped vanilla air fresheners you buy at the car wash for $1 that has been dipped into Bath and Body Work’s ‘Warm Vanilla Sugar’ lotion. Yeesh. Once it dries down it becomes a much warmer and simpler vanilla, but initially it’s synthetic and STRONG. It’s pleasant once it sits on the skin and warms up.
The merits: it lasts forever and a freakin’ day (whether you want it to or not) and works to amplify notes in some of my EDPs where I want more vanilla to come through. Comes in a pretty dark glass bottle with a glass dropper attached to the lid so you can be very precise with application. You only need a SINGLE drop on your wrists — any more and you might be overwhelmed. I thought it was nice applied to the back of my neck because I got whiffs of sweet vanilla when I turned my head, and people who hugged me were pleasantly surprised.
It lasts forever and stays consistent! It’s just more of a cakey sweet vanilla as opposed to a richer bourbon vanilla that some might be looking for.

I have had this oil for a couple of months now and could not decide if I liked it or not. After spending some time with it, I have decided that it is a keeper. It is not a marshmallow vanilla such as my favorites Farmacia – Cara or L’aromarine Vanille – but, it is a deep, long lasting and sexy vanilla. First, you will notice the vanilla but it will quickly warm up with a very slight coconut/chocolate note and maybe a dash of caramel. I do not get that plastic, nauseating note that I get from many scents like this (especially those containing coconut). This scent reminds me VERY MUCH of Exact Friction of the Stars in that it has a hint of coconut and chocolate in there blended to sweet perfection with no one note overriding another. Though this reminds me of Pilar and Lucy’s Exact Friction of the Stars – it is missing that waxy, candle note that Friction of the Stars has AND costs only 15.00 for the oil and there is MORE of it than the EFOS oil and the scent lasts longer in my opinion. I love the dabber stick and the glass bottle that looks so retro in my perfume cabinet. I am glad I gave this another try and will reorder when I run out.

This is a very deep, long lasting vanilla. It almost has a burnt smell, which I actually kinda like. Most perfumes don’t last on my skin, but this one lingers, so I would recommend wholeheartedly. It is comforting and rich.

This is a sweet vanilla which is rich and dark toffee/fudge like.
On me vanillas last long but this is one of the few that lasts on me for 12hrs – Incredible, considering that i only need to apply a small amount. Plus this is more than a skin scent as i get wafts of this and it transfers onto my clothes lasting for ages.
I suffer from terrible headaches but i have been able to wear even with nasal congestion. Overall a wonderfully cozy, warm and rich scent.

I ordered this and the musk unsniffed, as I have been looking for the perfect skin scent, and this vanilla oil isn’t but I LOVE IT! I am actually very surprised at the quality of this oil. It very much reminds me of Onyx, by Sage Machado, minus the tobacco note. To me it’s absolutely stunning, not foody at all. I do smell a warm, sexy vanilla, and like mentioned before, coconut and chocolate. This perfume oil feels nice on, only takes a drop, and it lasts all day. It’s never overwhelming, but always nice to be near. My daughter and I both tried it on, and I kept wanting to be closer to her because she smelled so nice. I wouldn’t compare this to my other vanilla’s (la Maison- which is much more cookie like), because this is so different. I ordered my bottle online and it came in about a week. I will definitely repurchase. I never want to be without it. LOVE, LOVE.

Not a vanilla I like at all. Overly nutty and artificial. Though not very strong, try Aveda Vanilla Absolute instead if you want a more rounded, real vanilla extract scent.

while i realize true vanilla has an earthy, deep smell, this was almost unpleasant to me. when i think of vanilla, i generally imagine something light and sensual. not too dark, not too sweet. this was just too “foody” to me, and smelled like a cheap vanilla candle both in the bottle and on me. disappointing. 🙁

I’m the vanilla lover Basia’s talking about, and she’s absolutely right. For the price, CO Bigelow really delivers outstanding perfume oils, and puts most high-end houses to shame. Vanilla is everything she says and more. It’s predominantly a rich caramel, but close your eyes and you’ll also smell transporting whiffs of coconut and chocolate. And this gentle-to-your-skin oil lasts till the next day. Forget Agatha Paris Caramel and other supposedly “perfect” vanillas. This is the real McCoy.

A rich, caramelly, simple, yet gorgeous vanilla fragrance. Terrific for layering or wearing all alone. Also, at $15 a small bottle, it’s a steal compared to some overpriced vanillas by Jalaine, Creative Scentualization or other brand names. A must for any vanilla lover.
