I went to Paris this spring on vacation, and this is what I brought back as my present to me. I even had it made in a black bee bottle with “Paris 2018” engraved on the front in silver.
Why?
Well, if I didn’t already have a bottle of Cuir Beluga and several of Shalimar in all forms, I would have gotten one of those, but this is a beautiful scent and I am delighted I bought it.
It has that classic Guerlainade base but this feels like a stripped-down version. That’s not a criticism. I adore Guerlain for the very combination of notes most prominent here. It specializes in the lovely, slightly smoky yet creamy tonka-tobacco-leather blend that I will now forever associate with my very best day in Paris. I would buy it again but I doubt I will ever need to.
Easily unisex, classy, and inviting for an all-round Oriental lover like me.

I fall in love and took the plunge and purchase a bottle at 300$ CAN, this is not cheap! but that perfume just cover everything I like, Gourmand with his almond and vanilla (tonka bean) notes, oriental with the amber and woody notes and at the end Tobacco! the tobacco dry down is perfect, lush, sweet and smooth. this is an every-occasion-is-good-to-wear perfume. It can be the one and only for those who want a signature perfume, and or the perfect addition to those who have a wardrobe perfume collection 😉

My love affair continues with yet another Guerlain fragrance! This house rarely disappoints and my collection is heavy with Guerlain. I sampled Tomka Imperiale when it first launched in 2010, and was not “taken” as I have been with others. Fast forward 4 years, I sample again, and must say I am over the MOON for this ! The opening for me is gauzey, balmy with just a pinch of mint which I think is from rosemary, pine, incense? Anyways, the tonka and tobacco swirl about with the woods and a hint of honey, some sweetness and sprinkles of a powdery almond come out. Gorgeous! 260.00 ( USD ) for the 75 ml bottle. In the family of an oriental gourmand , and will be the next Guerlain added to the collection!
Notes: Top notes: Rosemary, Bergamot, Bitter Almond;
Middle notes: Tonka Bean, Light Tobacco, Honey, Jasmine; Bottom notes: Incense, Cedar Wood, Amber, Pine.

Sadly, this winds up smelling very cheap on me. It starts in a lovely gourmand vanilla-almond manner, but there is a lot of cheap alcohol notes in the top that smells like drug store body sprays. Then a plastic note starts to peak in at the dry down, which would be acceptable in an inexpensive perfume but not in something so expensive ($260).

An interesting and creative fragrance from Guerlain that smells absolutely delicious on some people, but unfortunately not on me. Ah jealousy, the green eyed monster. I feel like I am wearing a chic cashmere sweater but ultimately it does not look that good on me.
First off, Tonka Imperiale and I do not agree chemistrywise. If I spray in small doses as the wallet dictates, it starts with an airy, slightly herbal opening that makes me swoon but dries down to this very very flat, sweet thing that reminds me of cheap bland biscuits of my childhood. Is this white honey?
If I leave all my shame aside and douse myself in it, I get the true beauty of top notes, the demure airiness comes from the most beautiful subtle rosemary I have ever smelt in a fragrance, there is a fluffy base that supports the Tonka and what I think is white honey is not as bad as I thought at first. Still, no almonds for me and tobacco is barely there, and only sometimes. Again, it loses sillage and complexity on my skin very very quickly. I feel like I have used a heavy body lotion with vanilla but I need to spray some perfume on top.

One of my favorite Guerlain scents; a sublime gourmand.

This is definitely the most I have ever spent on a fragrance! It was $270 CDN but worth it. I wanted a unique scent not everyone was wearing. This is a nice gourmand that is very warm and inviting. It wears close to me. Not too loud but sweet and inviting. It comes with a spray, and an atomizer. Makes me feel warm during the winter months. Sweet and sexy.

This smells AMAZING on me! Its been almost a year now since I first tried it, and I’m still every bit as in love as I was from the very first whiff.
Its described as a woody oriental, but, to me I don’t get a lot of wood. Almond, tonka and tobacco are prominent. The Rosemary shows up in the beginning, but disappears. I think its best applied with an atomizer.
Update (May 2015)
Still an all time favorite. I wish wish WISH I could find a more affordable dupe. I’m just now finishing up a third bottle. As hard as it is to justify the price, there is not one nuance that I don’t love in this fragrance. I truly love it!

I was so disappointed with this. I tried so hard to get a sample (and believe me, that is hard to do!). A very generous MUAer sent me a nice size sample – it was so nice of her, I feel bad for not liking the fragrance! Truthfully, all I smell in this is incense and bug spray. it’s very strong. I can’t catch any honey or vanilla, or chai spice latte as it is supposed to have :-(. It’s very cloying, even just a little of it, and smells like such a synthetic chemical. every time I try it I can’t scrub it off fast enough. I had my husband smell it and he couldn’t stand it either :-(. I had hoped that when winter came, the smell would work better, but I can’t get over the incense steeped in chemically bug spray, sorry 🙁
