A few months back, Gilt had Kilian fragrances on sale and I ended up with a travel set that included Love, Sweet Redemption, and Forbidden Games for around $50. I bought the set without sampling first, thankfully I enjoy all 3 frags. I don’t think any of the Kilian’s I’ve sampled so far are worth $260 for the full bottle (I’ve also sample water calligraphy, bamboo harmony, in the city of sin, prelude to love). With that said, I do love Sweet Redemption and would happily re-purchase if discounted again in the future. I find the scent fun, carefree and reminds me of fragrances produced by Italian perfume houses like Profumum, Farmacia SS Annunziata, Acqua di Parma, and Aquolina.
I’m not sure fans of orange blossom scents will automatically love this one, as I find it more of a gourmand fragrance. To my nose, this is a rootbeer float with a hint of orange blossom. I didn’t notice any medicinal notes as others have mentioned and really don’t even notice the incense notes aside from myrrh.
Overall I find this a fun scent that should appeal to gourmand lovers, fans of niche Italian perfumes, is truly unisex and fairly unique. Orange blossom fans may want to sample Serge Lutens Fleurs d’Oranger, Joe Malone Orange Blossom, or L’artisan’s Fleur d’Oranger instead.

Sweet Redemption is a happy, sunny fragrance on me. I really enjoy applying it and experiencing the soft, sweet journey. No question, this fragrance is definitely on the sweet side, but I find it interesting and complex enough, mainly because it is not cloying on me. The orange flower is at the center and it has a cotton candy quality to it also, but not along the lines of Aquolina’s Pink Sugar creations, but instead much more refined. Lasting power like all By Kilians I have tried is very good. I already repurchased despite the prohibitive price tag. At least the company offers a simple refill option which I appreciate. An uplifting, comforting scent for all seasons, I especially like it in spring and summer.

I do not pick up on the note people refer to as bitter, medicinal or mothball.
This fragrance reminds me of Robinia Pseudoacacia trees from my childhood.
I come from a small town. At a busy interesection there is a unique roundabout there with a church right in the middle of it. But the streets are narrow and most people walk. Every time my grandmother and I went to town, we had to walk around the church to cross the road. And the church was surrounded by these Robinia trees. In Spring they had the most amazing smelling white clusters of flowers. My grandma would reach up and pick some for me to carry and smell.
And now the smell of these flowers has been bottled. I purchased 2 travel refils so that I can use them on special ocassions to remind me of my home town and the smell of Spring there 🙂

If you added a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream to Serge Lutens Fleur d’Oranger, you would have By Killian’s Sweet Redemption. It comes so close to being lovely, but, it’s way too strong and in your face for my liking. I’ll admit, orange blossom isn’t one of my “true loves,” when it comes to fragrances, but, when I do wear it, I prefer it to be subtle and gentle, like a warm spring day beneath a flowering orange tree. Sweet Redemption is more like standing in a flowering orange grove on a hot summer day, with overripe oranges hanging heavy in the trees and eating a tub of ice cream.

I adore orange blossom, & on my skin this started with orange blossom & a whole lot of marshmallow. The marshmallow was present throughout the duration if the drydown. Nag champa exposed itself for a moment & then I was left with a soft wintergreen (& marshmallow!). This is a fun experience; it just didn’t work for me.

I was lucky enough to get a sample packet of 10 By Killian scents. this was the first one I tried. The opening was beautiful, then 5 mins later it is straight up root beer on me. No thanks. it is a strong, long lasting rootbeer.

A lush orange blossom cut with a little green in the beginning. Beautiful, but would probably purchase a smaller amount. The orange blossom is full-blown.

Sweet Redemption is possibly the sweetest fragrance I’ve ever smelled. I have often said, “They don’t make a fragrance that’s too sweet for me.” Well, I’ve just met my match in this one. Overwhelmingly sweet and a bit medicinal. Reminded me of how prescription medicines for kids are made into a liquid form, and they have a weird sweetness and flavor, but it allows the child to get the medicine down before learning how to swallow a pill. Sweet Redemption didn’t work for me at all.

Pure Redemption is bottled sunshine. If you like orange blossom and vanilla, definitely try this one. The orange blossom is sweet and citrusy, and the vanilla is creamy and grounding and so smooth. I’ve seen some reviewers complain about an odd bitter or menthol note in the middle stages, but it just smells like a light dusting of myrrh to me, which gives a little complexity to an otherwise fairly straighforward scent. Overall, this is one of the happiest fragrances I’ve ever smelled. It puts a smile on my face every time I spray it on.
Notes: orange blossom, vanilla, myrrh, opopanax, benzoin, incense.
