First things first.
There are at least two companies manufacturing fragrance oils under the name of Spiritual Sky. I am reviewing the Australian made oils. Their ottles are rectangular with sharp (not smooth) edges and a black plastic cap.
Spiritual Sky fragrance oils have been around for goodness knows how many years. Most New Age stores will have these available for $8 -9AU each for an 8.5ml bottle. Beware if there are no testers. Spiritual Sky fragrances are incredibly hit and miss. Those that work are fantastic. Those that don’t are pretty awful.
Their Amber oil is a very smooth, warm, slightly woody fragrance that dries down to a creamy skin scent with almost a hint of vanilla. It smells fairly harsh for the first 5 minutes. After that it is super smooth and very pleasant.
It’s definitely not as musky or woody as the Song of India solid Amber fragrance.
Longevity – 8 hours plus
Sillage – strong for about an hour, moderate after that
Development – fairly linear
Being a fairly basic amber, it makes a nice base or layering agent for other oils or fragrances. I’ve used it in the past to add longevity to softer florals. Also, a little goes a long way. I’ve had my current bottle for around 5 years and still have nearly one third left.
For what it is, it’s excellent value for money. If more complex alcohol based fragrances were suddenly wiped off the planet and I had to use only headshop style fragrance oils, this would definitely be at the top of my list.

I bought this for 2 reasons: 1, I love the little bottles with their “Indian” label on them, and 2, I had a Spiritual Sky perfume back when I was a teen and wanted another one for nostalgia purposes. I received my order from a website very quickly, and decided to try the perfume out today. To my surprise, the oil is quite fragrant and lasting, especially for something at this price. It smells spicy and sweet, and is somewhat reminiscent of (but doesn’t really smell like) vanilla. I’m enjoying wearing it by itself, and will be interested to see how it blends with other fragrances I have. I’m very pleased with this purchase and would definitely buy it again.
Edit: Sigh. I keep changing my mind about this. I think what happens is that I really like it and use it a lot, then I’m tired of it and it doesn’t smell that good to me anymore. I would say that if you like amber fragrances, or think you might, this is as good an option as any.
