I’m going to review both the oil and solid versions of this fragrance as they do smell a bit different.
Song of India Jasmine oil is a fairly true to life jasmine fragrance that starts off a little sharp and then becomes quite sweet, a little green and a little heady. It doesn’t really smell all that indolic to my nose. It always remains a little sharp, and for that reason I would not purchase it.
Longevity – 6-8 hours
Sillage – Pretty strong
Development – very linear
Song of India Jasmine Solid Fragrance is the better choice of the two. It smells very realistic, doesn’t have that sharp top note, nor does it smell particularly green. instead it is a little deeper, very heady, and a little bit indolic. Much more lush and nicely smooth.
Longevity – 8 hours plus
Sillage – Moderate
Development – Linear
I don’t enjoy the oil either on its own or as a layering agent. When I’ve tried layering it with other fragrances the sharp top note spoils them. The solid perfume works well by itself, and I’ve also layered it with a very dry woody oriental to take the edge off the dryness.
For the price, the solid fragrance is a good buy. I have ticked that I would repurchase but I use this so infrequently it will probably last for many years.
