Notes: white sandalwood, cinnamon, fenugreek, pink pepper, rose, jasmine, orris root, musk, benzoin and copaiba balsam.
This fragrance opens with a blast of spices dancing on a sandalwood parquet floor. The dominant spices are fenugreek and pepper which give the initial accord an exotic touch. Gradually the sandalwood emerges from the steam generated by the heat of the spices. It is creamy, soothing sandalwood which rules the composition with grandeur. Flower notes soften and sweeten the wood note, bringing out its best features. Santal is very different to Chene, it is warmer, softer and creamier than Chene which, drier, smells definitively more like wood to me. Lasts for roughly 4 hours on my skin.

Not my favourite Lutens, for a start.
I also expected something sandalwood like, creamy, cozy.
I get something very sirupy at the beginning, enhanced with disturbing peppery notes (white pepper, the most pungent one). I do not like pepper as a note, for a fact.
the middle notes warm up and I can smell dried raisins, a hint of a boozy note (cognac) , like it were a gourmand… it has a pastry note, indeed. like those cinnamon buns… but the spices are there (=pepper), and in my opinion, they ruin it all.
The flowers here are very subdued; I can smell iris , but very faraway.
the best part is the drydown, soft and powdery, when all the spices have calmed down. The (sweet) woods appear and all is again in peace with the world!
A nice perfeume to try, but as I said, not my favourite Lutens.

When I first tried it on, it was a spicy, heady, stinky mess. Even the shopgirl, told me “not this, try something else”. However, 5-10 minutes later I got whiffs that were not bad at all. I was surprised to realize it was SB. So I sniffed again and again. It had turned into a warm, still heady but less spicy fragrance. Not bad at all it seemed. But still, there was one note that I disliked. After one hour it was still there. I have no idea what is it; perhaps the cumin that most people dislike in this? I only know that although the base was warm and comforting and interesting in a slightly spicy way, there was still something bothering me. Even at the reduced price I found it, I couldn’t justify buying a FB of this.
