This fragrance doesn’t get enough credit among the fragrance snob set, but it should. The oud is rich and nicely tempered with the rose, and the dry down is HEAVEN. It’s dead sexy and sophisticated, and what’s more, you won’t smell it on too many people. Works as a unisex. I worship this.

Agree with prior reviewer that this is a very special, magnetic fragrance. I tried it once in a dept store and came back and spent 120 dollars because I was so drawn to it – something I have NEVER done before (my fragrance purchases are usually in the 30 dollar range!).
I don’t regret it, it is unusual, lasting and deep. Only drawback is the rather odd triangular bottle because it’s a bit hard to get the cap on right, but a small quibble. Love it.

I had been searching for a drop-dead, original fragrance for winter. I stopped in at a local cosmetics store and sampled this fragrance. I was hooked! The rose is prominent at first, not a sweet rose, but deep and rich. It’s a bit sharp when you first spray it, no doubt. But wait. . . then you get this beautiful woodsy undertone. Wait a bit more and you get what I would imagine ashes of roses would smell like. The rose is still identifiable, but the warmth and woodiness from the oud is now prominent. I only wear it in the winter, I personally think it’s too strong for the warm summer days. The fragrance lingers on my clothing for days. I love putting on a sweater that still has a hint of Black Rose Oud in it. I feel sexy, beautiful and mysterious when wearing this.
It’s pricey – that is the bad news. I went back to the aforementioned cosmetics store to spray myself so often I was (almost) embarrassed. But not enough to keep away! Finally, I had hinted enough that I received the coveted bottle for my birthday. I ADORE this fragrance. When the bottle runs out, I will mourn . . . and then save up for a new one!

It’s an alright oud, but nothing groundbreaking. Very smooth and well blended. I’d say office-friendly, so you might consider it if that is what you need. I much prefer my ouds to be more dramatic and for that price you can get something much better from Montale.

I’ve gone through about 4 samples at this point, and I’m going to say (IMO) that this scent has me more excited than any other scent has in years. It is hellishly expensive, bit this is a rare occassion when it’s worth every penny, This is not for everyone..those that like light, clean florals, fruit, and powder won’t like this, This is deep, dark and wicked, Like a poison laced with rose to disguise it’s power. I’m not a rose fan, but I do like it if done well (Cannibus Rose comes to mind) The rose here is not fresh and dewy…it’s full blown almost to the point of death…I’m getting poetic here, but this stuff is that good. The Oud, which I’m sure is the reason for the inflated price, is done well. Those that like orientals, musks, woods, incense and resin should adore this. If you like clean and innocent, please run. This is def femme fatale territory, Your chemistry must work with it, so I would recommend you try first-not on a test strip, but on your body, It’s strong, and lasts forever. Worth trading your firstborn for….LOL

Here;s the deal: I’m no expert, especially on Oud-which I had never heard of until a trip to Barney’s and left still puzzled over the big deal. Imagine my surprise-LOL- when searching for something interesting to buy at Nordstrom’s the saleslady told me that she had just the thing to heal my over-all boredom with fragrance-Black Rose Oud! I had already sampled way too many fragrances, so I brought home a generous sample. It was a llittle out of my price range-but being curious-I just had to try it. At first spritz, nice, rose-sorta dark-then an unbelievably noxious aroma-like the kind you get when you’re blowing up a balloon-plastic and synthetic. I couldn’t wait for the dry-down-I had to get it OFF my skin! I’ve smelled some doozies over the years-but this one will stick with me-unfortunately. That being said, I am a big fan of Trish’s other fragrances. Had I plunked down the $$ for this Oud stuff, I would have been an unhappy camper. Thank God for samples!

This is truly a dark rose. Anyone who is under the impression that Voleur de Roses or Check & Speake’s Dark Rose, Montale’s Black Oud or even Stella is dark- you have not met Black Rose Oud!
It is an interesting combination. Its smoky, sensual, a very well done rose incense. There is also a sweet note that I can’t identify that makes this fragrance very Victorian smelling to me. While Montale comes off as a synthetic blast of rose, this seems softer genuine to me. It is vampiric and tasty. Sweet and soft, a subtle powdery note, yet dark and dirty. I cannot stop sniffing my wrists; it is utterly addictive.I also love the black and gold bottle.
If you can find this I suggest sampling it– this is a different rose. It’s available @Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman,Saks,NM, and her website.
I can’t say this enough- to me, it is rose done just right.
