I love Le Labo perfumes, the scents are gorgeous and Rose 31 is no exception. This is a woody rose scent, it truly smells like real, fresh roses. It takes me to a rose garden on a rainy day. Just a gorgeous, natural and true scent. On me the rose truly shines and it isn’t as androgynous as it smells in the bottle or in other people. To me, this is not a negative, but be aware that it will pull differently on different people. I recommend to try before purchasing as these perfumes are quite a large investment. They are excellent quality and the staying power is great, lasting around 6-8 hours on my skin and even longer on my clothes. I get a lot of compliments when I wear this fragrance. It makes me feel sophisticated, seductive and classy. It is truly a modern rose fragrance. I would definitely recommend it to lovers of rose. I do have to note that these are almost $400AUD though. I was lucky enough to receive a deluxe sample in a Mecca Beauty Box and have been able to enjoy this fragrance for a few weeks now, but the price is certainly not affordable for the average consumer, which is why I deducted a star.

I have been wearing this scent ever since I discovered the lotion two years ago. I actually have both the lotion and the perfume, and I prefer the lotion. This is my signature scent, and now the only one I wear. I apply the lotion daily after I step out of the shower which is early, usually around 4:30 or 5:00 am. It never fails, later that evening, I’ll be at grocery store or running some errand and someone will stop me and ask what I am wearing. I’ve had people state they are allergic to fragrance or highly sensitive to them, and will remark that this doesn’t bother them at all. Men love it and women do too. Every once in a while someone will ask if I have some type of patchouli fragrance on.
I get very little rose scent in this. For me it is spicy, musky, peppery and dries down to a perfect warm, musky body scent that suits me perfectly. I rarely wear the perfume and the lotion lasts just as long. I feel sexy, comfy, beautiful and calm all at once when I wear this scent. I purchase 3-4 bottles at a time, and pray it never gets discontinued.
Love love love this!

It has taken me a good 5 years or so to truly appreciate Rose 31. I was introduced to it by sample from another perfumista – a man .
I suppose my problem was… my brain could not understand a non feminine rose scent or even equate the smell of roses as modern – I was not a natural lover of the rose note for years.
However what converted me this year was the Laundress detergent scented with Rose 31. How odd to come to love a quality scent via a detergent !
Anyway Rose 31 is quite a chameleon perhaps due to the Iso E Super in it which I a quite sensitive to detecting in fragrances. Sometimes I get Rose plus Ambroxan … then Rose and velvety cedar which i guess is the Iso E Super.
Rose 31 is a long lasting ,subtle scent but it is one of those that does not sit on top of skin but melts into it and becomes part of your own skin fragrance. I love that quality in a perfume.
Concisely Rose 31 is perfectly unisex, a thoroughly modern rose scent , tenacious and unforgettable. When you “get” this fragrance , you truly “get” it then you must acquire all versions of it ..from the EDP , soap, oil ,lotion etc all the way to the detergent for laundry !!!
5 stars worthy though the scent is expensive. One 100 ml bottle will last a v long time.
Rose 31 reminds me a lot of Feminite du Bois by Serge Lutens . Not in composition really but in theme .
The underlying cedar wood . I love both of course.

You know how there’s that scent you want to love? It’s often a cult perfume or at least a niche perfume. And you try to ‘get’ it. You want it to be ‘the one’ or ‘one of the ones’. You go all aspirational and silly.
For me Le Labo 31 was one of those perfumes. But there was something that reminded me of a scent from the past. From the eighties, when I had smelled it on — or emanating in billowing clouds from — the mother of one of my friends.
OMG! Eek! Paloma!!!! Run for your lives!
Of course it’s not Paloma. It doesn’t have Paloma’s density or throw. And the Paloma quality disappears in short order. But, on my perfume planet, it’s related somehow.
I find that Rose 31 quickly dries down to a pretty, politely come-hitherish scent. I prefer perfume with very little to no sillage, so for me the body lotion is best.

I absolutely love this scent!! It’s sexy, androgynous, and long lasting. As a woman, I feel empowered and luxurious in the scent. Although there are masculine notes, it’s still feminine. Men are attracted to it, but they are not quite sure why. Very seductive. Woodsy and floral perfection! Way too expensive though 🙁 If they would lower the price, they would make up sales in volume. I know I would buy it all the time. I get the sample from time to time for special occasions. It’s kinda tragic when I think about it…lol The things we do for love.

Cumin, guaiac wood and more cumin! I couldn’t detect any rose at all. I smelled as though I’d been cooking some Middle Eastern dish all afternoon and hadn’t bothered to wash my hands. I really, really dislike this scent. The longevity was enormous, a definite minus if you don’t like it, and after scrubbing and scrubbing for ten minutes there was still a loud wail of cumin and guaiac. I spritzed some Parfum Sacree on top to help cover it up, but alas, the dreaded, sweaty cumin and bitter, medicinal woods still came through loud and clear. One of the worst scents I’ve ever tried.

Aside from Vanilla 44, this is the other Le Labo fragrance I own. I bought it after having tried the Laundress detergent in the same scent, and would obsessively sniff the glorious fragrance coming off my clothes when they came out of the wash. I finally decided one day to just get a bottle. I was so surprised, though, when I realized it’s technically a man’s cologne! It’s the muskiest rose you can imagine, though not truly a musk, but a deep rose scent where rose is only one part of the picture. It’s not quite like the detergent (the detergent is softer). I like it enough that I also bought the body cream for the same item (but haven’t tried it yet). I would definitely send my bottle off for a refill. I’m glad it’s part of my perfume collection.

It has a powdery alcoholish rose scent.. quite ok.. but it’s not for me.. not bad though..

It looks like I’m in the minority here as this is definitely not a “dirty, woody, or vampy,” rose–for that kind of rose, I have my L’Artisan Voleur De Roses and The Different Company Rose Poirvree. On my skin, the oud and cumin are sheer and mellow adding the “brightness” that Potionsandlotions also comments on, which makes this rose very soap/shampoo-like, although this is NOT a “soapy” rose per se like some of the Rosine ones I’ve tried, so if you are adverse to soapy scents like I am, you needn’t worry. The cumin (and cedar) do slightly intensify in the drydown but nowhere near in terms of VDR and RP staying light throughout. Also, when I first applied this, it reminded me of something, took me awhile to remember but the original Herbal Essence shampoo with that green, herbally-clean impression, which is really enjoyable. I usually gravitate towards warm, rich, spicy Orientals, but I am enjoying branching out into different fragrance families and this is one of my favorite rose scents. I recommend trying a sample of this for rose and non-rose lovers alike.
