Well, this is quite a straightforward fragrance; coffee and patch – The End. It’s quite a charming combination but gets boring after a while and above all my patch wearing days are practically over. I find it more wearable than the uber sweet and raw Angel, the patchouli is more well behaved and Pure Coffee seems milder but overall I’m not really tempted to test it again.

I sampled this on hubby’s behalf whilst on a shopping trip one day. He’s been wearing B-Men for some time now & I love the smell of it on him.
My initial thought was that the bottle looked quite ugly but neither he nor I have ever let that dissuade us from purchasing scents we like.
The real issue was the smell. There’s been very few fragrances I’ve tried that have invoked such a strong reaction in me. This literally made me gag. Whilst I love the smell of freshly brewed coffee, this (to my nose, at least) came across as very stale coffee. To make matters worse, shortly after I started getting a hint of something else unpleasant. As it developed, it became clear that it was rotten lavender. That, mingling in with the stale coffee, was too much for me to bear. Five wipes begged from a make-up counter later & I still couldn’t get this scent off my skin and was starting to feel very headachey & nauseous.
When hubby had a chance to sample it himself, he agreed with the stale coffee/rancid lavender description I’d given him. Needless to say, he didn’t go on to purchase it.

What an appealing departure for Thierry Mugler, featuring the identifiable base of A*Men plus a rich, but sweet, coffee note. I’m not a fan of gourmand scents, and found New Haarlem’s vanilla base too sweet and heady for my taste, but would buy Pure Coffee repeatedly if only it wasn’t LE. Its only disappointment is its poor staying power (probably 2 hours on me, at the most), and this is also the only reason I wouldn’t pay an extravagant price for another bottle on eBay. Mugler should definitely bring back Pure Coffee as an EDP. I also developed a new admiration for men who are longtime Mugler buyers, having to deal with the designer’s rubber atomizer button, which has to be pushed hard. The fragrance then sprays out wide and, boy, is it ever a pain to decant (which you NEED to do for re-application of this subtle scent, and because the bottle is too heavy to carry around) . I guess this wide spray pattern works out well for men who choose to apply one good spritz to the front of the neck or chest, but really, couldn’t Mugler design an atomizer that’s easier and more practical than this?

I smelt this and instantly loved it….something so comforting about this coffee scent – not a deep dark roasted type but a sweet coffee like scent. Very nice without being sickly sweet!

When I read the ingredient list, I was intrigued and had to have a sample of this. I have to say that I was disappointed. I think Angel for Men has a more wearable coffee smell. My all-time coffee scent favorite is Bond No. 9’s New Haarlem. This is better than Jo Malone’s Black Vevyter Cafe, but I couldn’t wear this or enjoy this on a man. I gave it some points b/c it has depth, which is always appreciated.

DH and I were stoked to try A*Men Pure Coffee when we saw it at the dept. store some months back. It is everything the other reviewers said, it is very much a bold, deep and dimensional coffee scent and I give it points for that – but upon sampling, neither of us felt it was at all comfortably wearable. It gave us both that annoying, soiled feeling of having accidentally spilled dark roast coffee on one’s self. We do appreciate it for what it is, but ultimately for us it’s a no sale.

It takes a lot for a men’s scent to make me go wuh wuh wuh WOW!!!!! But Thierry Mugler’s Pure Coffee has done exactly that. I am a huge fan of A*men and while that is more of a sweet, “pink sugar”, cotton candy type of scent Pure Coffee is just that……PURE COFFEE. Actually, its more like a gigantic mound of pure black coffee beans harvested from an exotic location in Africa. It’s a very rich, thick, intoxicating coffee smell too. It’s not thin or waterey in the least. To me it really is like walking into a small, hole-in-the-wall type of coffee house that is not well known around the city. You walk into this little place and dark, black, bewitching coffee envelopes you instantly. I have not purchased a true men’s scent in probably over a year but this is going to be an acquisition of mine very soon. Also, this would be fantastic on ladies too so ladies go try this one out for yourself.

I bought this for Dear Ole’ Dad, and am now wearing it myself. I don’t smell an overwhelming coffee scent. Maybe a creamy lightly milk chocolated (thats not a word) sweetened coffee, is what I unconciously smell. But on me and Dad, no one knew it was a coffee perfume. They just knew that we “smelled great.’
I really love this stuff. Damn limited editions!

This smells like it’s name….just pure coffee. It smells great, but it doesn’t have much interest for me.
