Noir de Noir (translated Black of Black) is the first fragrance from this house that I have added to my collection. After reading many reviews and scrutinising the notes, I felt confident I would at least like it if not love it. I am happy to report that I love it!
I am not sure why I waited so long to add a Tom Ford fragrance to my collection. I suppose it was because I had only ever smelt one of them in store, which I believe was either Velvet Orchid or Black Orchid, and I was not impressed. It smelt a lot like green melon to me. Also, there was a certain vulgarity attached to the house in my mind. Firstly, there was the taste-questionable ad for YSL Opium in 2000 that featured an almost nude (wearing only stilettos) Sophie Dahl lying on her back in apparent throes of sexual ecstasy. The ad offended many people’s sensibilities. It is my understanding that the ad was done by Tom Ford. In much more recent times, Tom Ford launched a fragrance with the most unfortunate and vulgar name of F** Fabulous. I shudder to think the target market for this fragrance, but I was not amongst it. However, every year around the Christmas holidays I seek to add two or three new fragrances to my collection, and this year was no different. I have been interested in rose and chocolate notes of late, and so I happened upon Noir de Noir and am very happy to have it in my collection.
To my nose, NdN is an earthy, dark rose that is given a lovely, dark chocolatey coating that borders on gourmand but does not quite cross the line into gourmand territory. The truffle note provides a rich, earthy, almost mushroom-like-mustiness to the fragrance which works very well in this composition. The oud is present but thankfully very well behaved and only serves to compliment the other notes in a supporting role. I fell in love with NdN the first time I wore it, and I fall in love all over again each time I wear it. It is a rich and very expensive smelling.
NdN is probably best suited to evening wear, and will probably work best in cooler weather for most casual fragrance wearers, but as for myself, I wear whatever I want to wear despite time of day or time of year because my lifestyle and schedule permit me to do, although I realise this is not true for everyone. I find NdN somewhat formal, so it is an excellent choice for an expensive evening out with someone special. It makes the wearer feel special.
NdN is reasonably unisex, but in my opinion, it leans a bit toward the feminine. I have never smelt the original, but as it was released in 2007, I suspect it has been reformulated a few times. It is nevertheless a very impressive fragrance. I do feel this one is back up bottle worthy, too. Performance on my skin is good if applied liberally. The packaging is nice but not eye candy. Overall, NdN is very well done and worth adding to your collection if you like these notes.
I have never believed that any fragrance can make the wearer more appealing to the opposite sex, but if someone is already attracted to you, I think NdN is one of those fragrances that would enhance the person’s attraction to you.

This is the type of scent which makes you feel ‘dressed’. By this I mean once you’ve worn it, you’ll feel naked without it.
Oh my, what a beauty this one is! I love the rose in this – I imagine a night rose which blooms and projects it’s best fragrance in the dark of the night.
This is one of the few scents I would deem as truly unisex. Other scents which claim to be unisex either lean toward being too masculine or too feminine. I think the reason this works is because it’s simply just a breath-taking scent, and as such it can be worn as such by either man or woman. It exudes such an amazing smell you could easily fall in love with the person wearing it.
I didn’t actually think I’d like this. I simply ordered a sample because I’d read some really great reviews and wanted to try it for myself – the idea of the additional saffron, vanilla and patchouli notes (amongst others) had made me think it would be too pungent for me. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The other notes blend with the rose to bring out a darker velvety-ness I didn’t think existed.
I see this as quite a sophisticated scent – the type you’d wear if you wanted to exude mystery, sultry, sophistication, and wealth.
I recently reviewed another perfume where I stated that it’s rare to find a perfume which actually smells expensive despite the price. Unexpectedly, I find this is also the case with Noir de Noir.
I would categorize this as a ‘mature’ scent, but not in a negative ‘grandma-ish’ way. It’s not a girly scent. Not something you’d imagine cheer-leading in, but something you’d wear if you were being driven in a luxury car to an exclusive theatrical performance somewhere (one can dream …!).
I give this a 5 out of 5. I know it will not be for everyone, and might be too strong for some, however, if this suits you I say “flaunt it”!

Heaven in a bottle!! OH MY!!! New HG, and I have had it for a few months, & still CRAVE it if I cannot smell it on me!! I’m in LOVE! Dark Rose, as most have said on here is a very good description, I would also add, anyone that likes Oud fragrances, will love this. It is Expensive, but this gem is WORTH it~.There is NO other perfume that smells like this. I have tons of perfume, yes, I need meetings, but this has won my heart as HG, signature, & any other amazebombs category you can put it in. Natalie N on Youtube. Blond hair, Black Bebe shirt. I just wish it was a little less expensive, so more people could enjoy! I have Amber Absolute (Its Great), Noir Femme, (It’s ok), & Black Orchid, (it’s just OK too.)..This is WAY better, & smells nothing like any of those other TF’s I have.

The first hour is a spicy, leafy, incense-y, Christmasy, vanilla rose. But with rose not at all being the star player, it’s fairly faint, powdery, soft and quite warm. A smooth opening for sure, if not my cup of tea.
After that it goes downhill more so, as it becomes a cherry tobacco-licorice-rose. And unlike Tobacco Vanille which I love, the tobacco note in this blend isn’t doing it any favors. At least not for me. The dry down gives me mainly tobacco and then it’s gone.
I prefer the darker incense of Cafe Rose to this.
Sillage is ok, it wears pretty close, and wear time for me was several hours. Nothing to write home about.

This is my favourite rose scent, with the notes well blended making it classy, sophisticated & sexy.
There are lots of comparisons to Black Orchid & White Patchouli! I own both & to me neither are like this. As with most TF scents I find this distinctive & unique.
I was luckily enough to receive this as an Christmas present. I absolutely love & it has become my signature scent. I have a 100ml bottle but use it only for special occasions due to the price.
Some people feel this is more masculine than feminine but I think it’s a good rounded unisex fragrance, on my skin it projects feminine.
For me this is the perfect Rose which I have been searching for, for a long time. I love!

I tried this a few times. I am not good at fragrance description but the initial blast of this baby is rich chocolate and elegant black rose. Wonderful. But the dry down is awfully sweet like my grandma’s perfume.

This is one gorgeous fragrance! It’s hard to describe but it’s a very intense and dark rose… It’s sweet, deep and has a hint of chocolate. It’s my new favourite parfume. I love, love Tom Ford but this one is really my favourite of them all. It’s just a shame it dosn’t last that long at me. Only a few hours 🙁 Normally his perfumes are everlasting on my skin but not this one 🙁

I won’t describe the notes as everyone else has hit the nail on the head in describing Noir de Noir but I will add that this is one dark and sexy perfume. I understand that this is unisex however, I am leaning that this is more on the feminine side ….. it is long lasting and when my body chemistry is right, this scent is wonderful on me, however, sometimes I pick up a beer-like quality in the beginning notes, but it does dry down eventually.

This is a very sexy feminine perfume. It is warm and sultry. There are notes of vanilla but not cloying or gourmand. Perfect for a night out with your man. It also has great staying power.

A review I read online stated perfectly that Noir de Noir is “the queen of flowers…in her darkest aspect”. This is ROSE, but a dark, brooding, foreboding rose with no hint of romance whatsoever. Vanilla and saffron swirl beneath the surface and restrain NdN from going despairingly dark, but the patchouli and oakmoss keep the blend in its entirety thick, rich, and with only a pinprick of light. This is not Cinderella, this is her evil stepmother: cruel, haughty, and without remorse or regret. The sweet and innocent best keep away. Noir de Noir layers quite well with Tuscan Leather if you wish to make it more masculine (NdN is too feminine on its own to sit well on a man) and/or you wish to quash that last remnant of light and make it completely dark.
