A light and pleasant floral from L’Occitane that kept me quite interested with its interplay of notes despite its surface simplicity.
It opens with sparkling, slightly sweet citruses that are cheerful but never screechy. Citrus notes are present on my skin from the beginning to the drydown. Although I’m not a big fan of citrus, what I like about them here is that they show different faces through the life of the fragrance and are never boring. A very prominent, clear neroli emerges as the scent develops. At one point, florals tend to fade and Neroli and Orchidee reminds me of Houbigant’s sweet and sparkling Orangers en Fleurs – which I like a lot. Everything else in Neroli & Orchidee happens on this citrus playground for me.
The floral part is more confusing for me. Not all notes develop well on my skin and after the top notes, I get this lush, almost humid but plasticky smell. Nothing dirty, like a doll’s head smell. This is got to be the peach as this has happened to me with other fragrances. Or maybe it’s the fig milk note, no idea. It adds an experimental interest but I don’t think this is what Neroli & Orchidee intends to do. Other than that I get mostly LOTV, which eventually turns into a light, clean powder – more creamy on humid days. The LOTV is clean, fragile, sheer but I get a bit of that lovely stem note which I love in this flower.
Altogether it is a pleasant fragrance, that may feel too aquatic and maybe a bit synthetic to some noses but I think it may get a lot of love from those of us who like that clean, out of the shower feeling.
It has a soft sillage but unexpectedly good lasting power on my skin – over 6 hours.
