Notes from Fragrantica: caramel, patchouli, rose, vanilla, amber
Release date: 2008
This is an absolute must have for any fragrance fan that loves Midnight Poison. Same DNA—rose, patchouli, and vanilla (so much patchouli–you really have to love patch to love this family of fragrances!). What makes this one different from original Midnight EdP is the addition of sweet caramel and warm amber. It softens the harsher edges that are apparent in MP–it warms it up and makes it a cozier fragrance overall. It’s less of a tenacious beast on my skin than the original, but that could have to do with my refusal to use the detachable atomizer (I would be very upset if it evaporated on me!!) and therefore my bottle is a dabber. I may try decanting a bit into a travel spray to see how that affects longevity/sillage. The bottle itself is beautiful—that deep cobalt is striking and a bit mysterious. This flanker was never offered in the US and I’m not sure if it’s even still being made, but it’s well worth hunting down, especially for Dior fans.

the elixir is soo unnecessary to me. its like as if the dior company read all the negative reviews the dior cherie girly girls gave for the regular midnight poison, and then decided to just throw in a bucket load of caramel in it to shut them up. if you mix one spritz of regular midnight poison with half a spritz of L de lolita/or aqualina , you get midnight poison elixir. No, seriously… midnight poison is supposed to be the ruthless passionate femme fatale. she isnt supposed to be a sweetheart, or girly and bubbly. the caramel takes away ALL the personality reg MP had…and DIOR is DISCONTINUING the reg midnight poison too -__-

I think this is an amazing fragrance and as usual for elixirs and intense version, better than the original. Somehow intense elixirs lack the sharpness their original counterpart has. I like regular Midnight Poison but the Elixir definitely contains a lot more depth and is sweeter, less dry, more feminine and wearable while even more characteristic and long lasting than the regular MP.
To me this is one of the most mysterious fragrances and one of the most passionate if not the most passionate. Eva Green was the perfect choice to model MP as the woman wearing this fragrance would be a magical woman and somehow this is a scent that I imagine would go best with a beautiful, elegant, dark dress like midnight blue or black. It is more of a winter scent but I can see it being worn in the summer as well. It is definitely a special occasion or evening juice but brave ladies can wear it occasionally during the day as well.
It is enchanted, dramatic, slightly melancholic and special and makes one feel the mysterious sexy lady we all want to be. It is what I would imagine a good witch would wear in a fairtale or a beautiful vampire lady would wear. It fills a hole I have had in my perfume cabinet. Something I keep going back to and something I would miss. Something that I would not wear everyday but that definitely would need. It is a fragrance for a woman with character, an assertive lady who would stand up for herself. Definitely different.
Also, to me the opening of this fragrance is a lot more what I imagine poisons would smell like than the original Poison. It has a poisonous opening which goes away and then develop into something warm, passionate and very attractive. Not for the faint at heart but if you have a dark side like I do it is a must have. I think it pairs perfectly with dark violet or burgundy lips or even red. The bottle is just gorgeous and a perfect fit for the juice inside.

This is a stronger version of Midnight Poison. It has an atomizer. The two notes that stand out to me are caramel and vanilla. It is long lasting. There is still the sexy patchouli scent that is present. The scent is sweet, floral and powdery.

I am still trying to get my head around Midnight Poison. Unusual, strong, bitter. I keep coming back to it. I used to own a 100ml bottle but sold it after using a few sprays, as I felt it did not really suit me.
Midnight Poison Elixir smells the same but has some added sweetness, and I think that’s what makes it easier to wear for me. Sweet, spicy and a little powdery. And I love bergamot. The bottle with the bulb atomiser looks beautiful, stunning really. Exquisite packaging.

This was given to me as a gift. When my bf went recently a trip he asked me what I wanted and told him that i wanted a bottle of classic poison. However when he came back I saw that it wasn’t the poison that I liked but the new launched perfume Midnight Poison and of the team of the elixirs. The SA gave him this and told him that old poison it’s going to be discontinued and that I should go to this one instead of the other-the old one. This happens when you don’t buy a perfume of your own:-(.Don’t know what some people think sometimes…
Anyway, since it was a gift and since i didn’t want my bf to feel sad,I decided to give it a try.
From the official website of dior it says:
An enchanting spell: a mysterious dark rose based on Amber and Patchouli leaves. The Elixir also contains intense, voluptuous, flavorful notes of caramel – fruity and toothsome, with an appetizing “toasted” fragrance – and the mellow, enveloping aromas of vanilla. As Midnight Poison, Elixir is empowered blue reflections. Each bottle is a unique creation, as a Haute Couture gown.
The fragance description from the website
Fragrance Description
Words to tell about it
Gustative Floral Oriental
Top Note
DAMASCENA ROSE: Native to Turkey and Bulgaria, Damascena rose is used in the form of both essence and absolute. This mainstay of the perfumer’s palette can be found in the heart notes of Midnight Poison, J’adore extract and Eau de Dolce Vita.
Heart Note
CARAMEL: Perfumers use caramel for its sweetness and aroma of burnt sugar. This warm note with a hint of vanilla dominates the middle notes of Midnight Poison Elixir, giving it a resolutely carnal touch.
Base Note
AMBER: This animal-derived ingredient lends depth and sensuality to fragrance. So rare was this precious substance that it cost its weight in gold. The amber note is now used in both men’s and women’s compositions, and it forms the mysterious facet of the dry-down of Midnight Poison.
THE BOTTLE:The best part of this perfume is the bottle. Not because it has this wonderful poivre and wonderful apperance, but because the bottle is not sealed in the classic way and you can easily decant it to any other bottle you like.Like in a small perfume bottle that you can have it in your bag. :-).
However i will keep it in my boudouir as it goes better.
When I tryed it the first note that came out was pachouli. It has a sharp opening and then becomes sweeter. Even though it is a very strong perfume everywhere i was going they were telling me that i wore something fresh and youthfull. It reminds me a little of Angel of TM but instead of this perfume that i cannot stand this one matches completely my body chemistry and people smell on me something enjoyable.
Now I usually like oldfashioned and classic scents. If i went on the local department store I wouldn’t buy it because of that reason.
I would be so wrong. Since this perfume is actually a disclosure.
Something unique that fits to a modern, romantic, powerfull femme fatale.
If you ever cross it don’t pass it buy quicly as another comercial modern scent. If it muches your chemistry you have found another real gem.

This the the new 2008 release for already existing Dior fragrances. (Dior has lauched the ‘Poison Elixirs’ collection: Midnight Poison, Pure Poison and Hypnotic Poison in a more concentrated version).
Midnight Poison Elixir is based on the original Midnight Poison fragrance, enhanced with “intense, voluptuous, flavorful notes of caramel – fruity and toothsome, with an appetizing “toasted” fragrance – and the mellow, enveloping aromas of vanilla”. (As decribed in the presentation).
It is not so original – at a certain stage I can clearly smell Dior Addict – yet it is a pretty perfume.
A floral, vanilla gourmand with a deep, misterious edge.
Something like a dark Cinderella, romantic, seductive but with a borderline personality.
Not really my thing but not distasteful.
Worth a try.
