This is a truly divine scent that sits on a pedestal all on it’s own. The fragrance is a true, strong gardenia scent with an underlying smooth sweetness that wears well on the skin. The exquisite bottle, with a gold crown-esque top, and octagon bottle is gorgeous! Comes in a lovely leather pouch as well. Perfect for the real gardenia addicts or anyone who loves a deep, sultry and somewhat gothic scent.

I so hated this at first. I really did. And now, probably because it’s discontinued, I genuinely like it. Absolutely love it? Well, no. But like it a lot, definitely. I adore the bottle. And it may be weird, but if I think the bottle is ugly or unattractive in any regard, I don’t want it on my dresser, no matter what the juice inside smells like. It’s all about packaging and appearances. Just make the outside like the inside, and it’s all good.

Very cheap-smelling (a case of inverse proportion to price?), linear synthetic gardenia scent with little bursts of gag-inducing sweetness. This has all the imagination of a thirteen year old’s idea of what perfume is. Scratch that. Even Love’s Baby Soft had more oomph than this insipid concoction. There is absolutely nothing “dark”, complicated, sophisticated, mature or anything remotely interesting about this oil. Lovers/seekers of complex gardenia may want to try Strange Invisible Perfume’s gardenia interpretation.

I love Gardenia and most white florals, and I absolutely ADORE Black Gardenia!!
It is not multi-layered….it stays the same from when you put it on for hours – my clothes still smell of it the next day!
It’s sweet, sexy and beautifully packaged.
I will definitely repurchase.

Got this as a sample in my quest to find a perfect gardenia scent. Unfortunately, I found this way too sweet. Out of the bottle I got a dark, heavier version of gardenia, as if the flowers had started to wilt a little. After a few seconds on my skin it built, getting sweeter and sweeter until I could feel a headache coming on and had to run to wash it off, something I rarely have to do. No thanks, not for me.

Count me as one of the love-it side of this one. I have a history of white florals going to mothballs on me. Monyette did it, Bvlgari Jasmin Noir, Boadicia’s Divine, Diorissimo, Island Gardenia, Fracas, all of these went sour and mothballish on me. This one doesn’t. It’s a sweet/tart floral, almost like flower syrup without ever getting that awful mothball edge or going oversweet and cloying. It isn’t actually a real Gardenia scent, remotely, but it is lovely, delicious and I’m compulsively sniffing it.

This is an excellent ‘black gardenia’ impression fragrance. There is a sweetness to it- vanillic -jasmine sweetness to begin which to some may seem like candy hell but to others- it’s addictively gorgeous. I am of the latter thought. Yes, there are truer gardenia fragrances out there but – this does not pretend to be a white floral gardenia – it’s a gothic edgy gardenia – dark and mysterious.
What follows after the sweet opening is a good gardenia .No plastic smells like Kai and Monyette ( which I loathe ! ) Isabey Gardenia is NO way to me, a gardenia soliflore-it’s Dior’s Poison ‘Lite”
This is one of the few gardenia scents out there worthy of being called a gardenia perfume- yes even with the candy sweetness and the gothic black gardenia impression.
Thumbs up , I love it. I will wear it and will keep on wearing it !

this definitely lives up to its name- black gardenia. what makes this gardenia scent interesting is that instead of capitalizing on the purity and crystalline essence of the gardenia, bergman tries to bring out the ambiguous and the mysterious in the fragrance. this smells like if you’ve ever bought a bouquet of lilies, when they reach full bloom or ripeness and are full of pollen, the scent becomes so unbearable strong and literally emanates from the flower that you could smell it a mile away. this is that overly ripe animalistic scent -gardenia version. Its recalls the strength of a flower at its peak so well its pungent. on the good side, the drydown is much more wearable (i detect a hint of sweetness) and a little dab goes a long way. HOWEVER, definitely try a sample- its a love it or hate it fragrance. i wore this to work and it was so strong and heady that for the office it was borderline inappropriate/offensive. it captures the dirty animal side of gardenia, whereas normal gardenia is about “making love” this is all about “fucking”. not my favorite interpretation bc i appreciate the innocence and purity of a gardenia.

This is definitely a sexy and seductive fragrance. It is a mixture of green and smokey notes on a base of creamy gardenia. Definitely strong and unusual with great sillage and staying power. It is somewhat similar to Monyette, but more complex and interesting IMO. Definitely full-bottle worthy!

I can’t believe those who doesn’t like Black Gardenia, it’s one of the most beautiful scents ever. Next to Monyette Paris, this is the best gardenia based fragrance according to my opinion. Sweet but not too in-your-face, rich, sultry and feminine. I only have this as a sample and I have to save up for a long time before I can afford one precious bottle!
