Oh goodness what a joy this scent is!! Despite it being discontinued you may still be lucky to find a specimen somewhere and if you do, try it!! Really, this is just delightful!
I read somewhere it was similar to lacoste pour femme, which was one of my favorite fragrances for over a decade and I only ever strayed from it because I had been not using, but more like abusing it all those years. Countless bottles after, I wanted to experiment with new scents, but was drawn to the description of this as being in the same style. It really IS! My only “complaint” is that it’s so similar to lacoste it’s almost a clone at first sniff, so my attempt at wearing something different almost failed with this one- but I don’t mind at all. When allowed to evolve though, it’s not just the ginger that discerns it from lacoste, it unravels it’s own character the better the longer it’s allowed to express itself.
Don’t be intimidated by the ginger and citrus opening. This isn’t sharp, hot ginger like ground ginger or that chewy candy you carry on trips for motion sickness. This is fresh, young, sappy ginger, the paler but happy, sunny kind, with plenty of elegance. The citrus isn’t sour or piercing but pleasant and refreshing. The flowery heart of magnolia, lily and orchid is masterful, feminine, and so so classy. Each note is easily discernible even if you’re not experienced in distinguishing them, yet they blend in a whole that just works amazingly. I haven’t been using this long enough to detect the sugar cane at all, perhaps I will discover it over time, but this is decidedly not a sugary scent, nothing like the vanillas, nothing cloying, heavy. The woodsy note is smooth and when I first catch it it’s almost like young bamboo to me.
I feel i’m not doing it justice describing it as such a fresh scent as it has that something that makes it so much more, it’s radiant, elegant, extremely tasteful. I see it fitting someone who can pull off classic clothing or jewelry in their own unique way, someone who chooses elegant but basic timeless pieces and wears them like they’ve never been worn. Quality over quantity, it belongs to someone who doesn’t need tons of tinsel to be stylish. But honestly, it’s so nice I think anyone could pull it off.
Definitely an office friendly scent, and would pass in many work environments otherwise prohibitive of fragrance. Although this stays on me all day, it doesn’t have tremendous throw, which I appreciate because I’m more comfortable not having to worry I’m suffocating someone with my perfume. If you stand up or make a sudden movement people catch a whiff of it, then it returns to your skin as in a game of hide and seek enticing people to follow you around in hopes of smelling more of it.
It’s so wearable. You could wear this at work or travelling and then relax in light clothing, a lawn chair and a tall glass of a cool ginger lemonade mixed with tonic water, surrounded by a juicy, healthy, hydrated garden, the “breathing” kind of garden that makes you understand why plants are called lungs of the world. Max Mara is fitting all the way from a restrictive work environment, restrictive shoes and pencil skirts and collars, through glossy, snobbish, pretentious, materialistic “haute” environments, to your own comfty lawn and linen pants and a pitcher of an iced drink. After many hours it becomes warmer and somehow cozy, it’s like it understands how a day progresses.
I make it sound like a spring and summer scent, but personally I will gladly use it now when everyone starts overloading on gourmands and potpourris and the venomous, reptilian kinds of orientals.
If this scent were a person, it’d be someone who has mastered the art of going through everything life requires without being contaminated by it.
It pretends to follow tradition and rules, but it can’t deny it’s in its own class.
I wholeheartedly recommend, and if I get the chance, I will probably repurchase sooner or later.

An afternoon corporate party wearing nude-coloured dress feeling fabulous, champagne flowing: that’s my mental image of this scent translating into life. Being, in my view, a warm season scent, it is unlike thousands of other fresh scents – it has that special wood note, that made it immeiately stand out for me and upped it to the “higher society” shelf, so to speak. I cannot possibly imagine a bimbo wearing this: it so obviously dictates intelligence, confidence, wit, humour, and a well-polished ability to use all of the above to flirt for your life – AND get away with it! – in business circles. It doesn’t come across as agressive at all, despite being quite complex, especially at the initial stage, so women are not threatened by it, and it has just the right amount of playfullness that a businesswoman needs to make men fall for her feminine charm yet not feeling too invited to cross the line. My skin seems to absorb it a lot, so the staying power was not so marvellous, but I would wear this exclusively for the above described occasions, so it lasts just enough to get me through a few fun hours with colleagues. It would also be ideal for brunches with the girls downtown or weddings: the bubbly note in it brings to a wearer ( or t least me :)) a feeling of daytime festiveness. Sunny, woody, sparkling, smart and a little bit enigmatic: I recommend it to all who know, how to carry a briefcase in a very tight pencilskirt, on very high heels and with more than one clever idea in the head. 🙂

This is very underrated yet complex and charming. There is a creamy spiciness to the scent than is so well done, on a bed of subdued florals. Nothing is sharp or screechy in Max Mara, it is quiet yet rich, easy to wear yet not common, with a dose of subtle elegance.
I reach for it often when it gets cool outside, it is a comforting and enveloping scent, like a warm cup of chai latte!!!

Wow–this is not the kind of fragrance I usually go for, but it is so pretty. Very sweet, but also woody. Extremely feminine. However, the fragrance disappears within a few hours, so you will have to re-apply during the day. I would repurchase again and again.

This is one of my favorite perfumes. It was actually my HG for many many years, until it started to give me head aches, I guess it’s little too strong. However, I love the smell and the bottle! I have been buying this for years and its not that easy to find it. Last bottle I got as a birthday present 4 years ago, I was so excited. Have to admit it’s very strong and kind of sweet, so I can not wear it in a hot summer day while in the car – I just get really sick. Perfect for colder, winter days.

Have worn this parfum for 3 years and still very fond of. The combination of ginger-citrusy and caramel with some hints of wood is just perfect balance for me. When I’m wearing it then it’s like a soft cloud around, and feeling the scent on me even 6-7 hours later. Staying power is excellent. Other MaxMara fragrances are not so unique for me. As I prefer light scents, I rarely wear this on summer, as it’s perfect from autumn to spring. A must be bottle in my arsenal.

This is a really lovely sweet nice fragrance, easy to wear for any occasion really. It starts citrusy but the cirtus is soft and tempered with the ginger and smells more like orange juice, for me the sugar cane note is there from the beginning, which I really like. It starts to get pretty sweet quite soon, which I also like. This isnt necessarily an amazingly original fragrance, it reminds me a bit of Dior Star for some reason for the fizzy sweetness, but I really like having it around.

This is a über-sweetened version of “Bois Farine” by L’Artisan. Both perfumes are “Floral Woody Musk’s”. But this sugared “Max Mara” has a nicer price-tag to it. You simply must try this! A lot of perfume for the money! One of my signature-fragrances – love love love !!!

I love this scent. “Introduced in 2004, Max Mara by Max Mara perfume for women is a floral, woody, musk perfect for any season. It is a blend of ginger, magnolia, citrus, lily, orchid, musk, and sugar housed in a curvy modern bottle.”
All of this they say is true! I have been wearing it since ’06 and its one of my everyday Perfumes!
