This is a unisex tuberose inspired by the high desert in Texas. I like this idea as I like smelling interpretations of the desert – Dune fan here- and I also like how tuberose is given a context outside the lush, tropical, exotic, whatever you name it.
Marfa does not disappoint in this regard. Overall, it is a dry tuberose paired with an airy cactus, on a musk base that makes me think of sands, rocks, arid climates, dry bushes. I think the musky base is very well-done because it doesn’t smell of nostril burning, harsh musk – although it’s not very soft. It creates an olfactory world that makes imagination of all these possible. I also like being able to smell the dry tuberose throughout the long drydown. It leans toward warm but dry on my skin with OK sillage for 3-4 hours.
Still, there is one aspect of Marfa that I don’t like much in this composition. When I spritz more than once or just coincentally sometimes – heat?- it opens with a huge, lush, tropical, too sweet coconut-tuberose note that is very much like The Monoi edt of Yves Rocher. It is so sweet and creamy that I almost feel like I have lotion on me on a hot summer day. I could like this in another fragrance – and I do buy the Yves Rocher edt in summer- but I don’t like it here. When it’s big this way, it’s also possible to notice a soft and airy melange of flowers during the heart. It’s quite pleasant actually but I don’t want to deal with that big, wet, lotion-like sweet opening here.
