I can see why it would work well for others, and it has a certain amount of complexity I can admire. However, I’m disappointed at this one. I get none of the top notes—from the get go, it’s all rum and tobacco and something else I can’t put my finger on, but I don’t like it. It really doesn’t work well with my body chemistry, I think, and it ends up smelling quite generic, like a drugstore men’s cologne. But boy does this cling like a mofo! Gooooood staying power.

This scent is warm, slightly masculine, and undeniably different. It reminds me of a library in an estate house built entirely of wood where you can smell the pipe smoke and pages of old books, mixed with some fire smoke. There are spices and other brighter elements that balance it out. This is a wonderful fall/winter fragrance, or can even be work during the summer as a statement (I do).

What can I say ? This is one of the best perfumes that I have ever bought. I am addicted. It’s warm and comforting. It is supposed to be reminiscent of a 1920s jazz club. I don’t know about that , but I can tell you that it reminds me of being a child all bundled in a wool blanket in my grandfathers den while he smoked a pipe. It’s heady and intoxicating. I smell hints of vanilla in it at times , as well as tobacco. The siliage is strong and it lasts a long time. People are always asking me what I am wearing. It’s different and although marketed as masculine , I find it unisex. Spray it on a sample strip and take it home. The dry down is very different then first spray.

I cannot even say how much I love this fragrance. It’s billed as a men’s fragrance, but it’s sold in sephora as a rollerball in a sampler for women, and I think it works for men and women. It is intoxicating! I don’t know how to describe it other than yes, it does smell like a jazz club from the 1920s (in a good way). You have to try it for yourself.

MAISON MARGIELA ’REPLICA’ Jazz Club..they nailed it with this. Upon first spritz, one is immediately taken to a smoky jazz club with the smell of vodka and other alcohol abounding everywhere. This is a relaxing scent to me, comforting. Sophisticated and elegant. I think this is more for a mature man, aged 30’s and up. Not sure the younger men would like this (in general). There is a slight sexiness to this, and yet comforting. This is geared towards men, but I think this could easily be a unisex fragrance. Definitely a night time fragrance, date nights, nights out on the town, dinner nights, that sort of thing. Not really for the work place. I think this fragrance is intoxicating.
But, one spritz is more than enough. While I do love this scent, I also feel that this can be a headache-inducing fragrance, so I would not suggest wearing it around those with allergies or asthma or where you will be in close quarters with people for long periods of time; it can be heavy and a bit overpowering, so one spritz will do ya.
But I think this is a unique fragrance, despite reading that people compare this to D&G The One (I strongly disagree). I think this is unique and intoxicating, but not really a ‘crowd safe’ or across-the-board people-pleasing scent. Not unless you maybe want to send somebody home with a headache, as this can be heavy. But it is lovely, sophisticated and very elegant. A grown man’s fragrance. But can also be unisex. Nicely done and definitely makes you feel like you are sitting in the smack middle of a jazz club. Well done. Lasts all day/night, and you will still smell pleasant little traces of this on the clothes the next day/ laundry day.

Jazz Club is from the Parisian perfume house Maison Martin Margiela and is available at Sephora. The company says it’s a masculine perfume, but I think it’s really unisex – perfect for the woman who doesn’t like sweet, floral or gourmand fragrances. It’s supposed to evoke the feeling of a private man’s club, with scents of tobacco and rum, and it succeeds beautifully – it’s warm and dry. Besides tobacco and rum, I also detect notes of wood and leather. According to online reviews, the fragrance also has vetiver, orange, reroli and peppercorns – all make for an intriguing mix.

A year ago I went on a tobacco note kick. I wanted to buy Tom Ford Tobacco-Vanille but just couldn’t pull the trigger so I looked at other perfume, when I smell Jazz Club I knew right away I need to buy it, it is nothing like Tobacco-Vanille it is more unisex (tobacco vanille is more feminine ) and less gourmand and without any vanilla. Jazz Club start with Rum and a lot of leather, old soft leather that slowly give place to the tobacco note. It is a night out perfume that is really interesting on a women and really nice on a men.
