Very simple, very pretty. Sweet violet made soft with vanilla. That’s all. I’m loving it.

I was given this for my birthday. I probably would not have purchased it for myself as violet is not one of my favourite notes.
On my skin this starts off like candied violets with a touch of vanilla. For the first 5 minutes it’s a little harsh and cheap smelling. It then smells a little soapy and after half an hour or so, turns into a powdery, old fashioned makeup smell. Imagine violets mixed with baby powder and a touch of vanilla.
Sillage is moderate to low and longevity is only around 3-4 hours. I have worn this twice now and can honestly say that I am not going to wear it as a stand alone fragrance. Instead, I will experiment with it as a layering agent.
To sum up – this is best for people who like fairly old fashioned fragrances and who love violet. It’s definitely more violet than vanilla on my skin.
Edit: I have been layering this with Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene and they’re a fantastic pairing. Violet is a major note in Grey Flannel, so it is intensified by the pairing, and the vanilla makes it a much more feminine fragrance. I’ve had a couple of compliments on the pairing also.

I love vanilla and am obsessed with exploring violets as a fragrance note, so this seemed right up my alley. I bought it un-sniffed via an online retailer for $35.00.
The first spritz was nice and healthy, but not overwhelming. I don’t smell vanilla or violets in this (keep in mind that I’m just beginning my violet adventures), nor do I smell lily-of-the-valley or rose. There’s bergamot, benzoin, spices, and white musk in this, and I think MAYBE the note I can pick out is white musk; otherwise, this hits my nose like a blend, the way Chanel No. 5 is meant to be a blend and not individual notes.
Overall, this is a very pretty, affordable scent, and I love that it looks purple. Now for the part where you think I’m a frequent user of substances on which people trip balls (I’m not): Most fragrances, when I imagine them and associate a shape with the scent, are almost like smoke, just sort of floaty and invisible, and wavily linear. With Laurence Dumont Vanille Violette, I get an iridescent sphere, like a crystal ball. I know that sounds crazy, but if you sniff this, you might see what I mean. It’s just a very unique scent.
I put this scent on 2 days ago, and my boyfriend and I both agreed that it reminds us of something. I can’t quite place it, but he says it reminds him of something at Disneyland. Then we both got sick and our snotty heads stayed in bed the whole time, so a rainy day plus 2 days in bed is a testament to this perfume’s staying power. I would definitely repurchase this pretty, purple, perfect-for-Princess Kim scent.

This is definitely not what I was expecting, I barely smell the violette, mostly I get VANILLA…but don’t get me wrong, its not bad its just very sweet and very Vanilla and not much more. Some compare those to Chowards violet candies but I am a fan of fragrances that smell like those candies in the purple tin foil… Vanille Violette is nothing like those candies.
The scent has grown on me though in the past hour and I am liking it more and more….
If you are into sweet scents, you should enjoy this a lot.
I enjoy sweet VIOLET scents which this seems to be way more Vanilla than anything else.
I do like this fragrance and it does warm up nicely on your skin. Staying power is great!

I got this today from Hautelook.com and it smells absolutely incredible. Have you ever had those violet candies they carry at gourmet stores? Smells just like that. Violet-floral, sweet and unique. Searching online, seems as though there aren’t many places to find it. I don’t know if it’s being discontinued, I hope not.

Although this is a change from my usual choices of very fresh type fragrances, it is one of my favorites. I was having a hard time finding a perfume with a violet scent that wasn’t too floral. This is perfect because you can clearly smell violets but it’s grounded in the vanilla. This is a sweet scent, but definitely not a juvenile perfume. The bottle is simple and the notes are simple, but it’s far from generic.
I got my large bottle at a very discounted price, but I think it’s worth paying full price for, and I will when I run out of this bottle. Check this out if you want something different and nothing really “clicks” at Sephora or department stores.

i am undecided on this. i wrote “yes” to repurchase because i do not dislike it, but i am not completely sold on it either. also fragrance is totally personal and seeing a low rebuy rate could stop someone from discovering their dream scent.
okay. firstly, i will admit i am not solidly clear on what violet smells like. but i can say i don’t think this smells clearly like vanilla OR like a floral scent. it has strong powdery notes which surprised me but don’t turn me off. it is sweet and feminine and i imagine men will like it. i do notice a *candy*-ish scent that may turn off someone looking for a clean floral, but doesn’t break the deal for me. i love the new packaging too.

Vanille Violette:
“Haunting” is how I would describe this scent. I say that because just when you think it has left you it will reappear and you remember all over again why you love it so much. Vanille Violette opens with a bright violet that isn’t too sweet or green – just lovely, authentic violet flowers. I have read where this was described as candy sweet but I don’t get candy from this at all (and I LOVE candy scents). This is innocent but not childish. The vanilla blends seamlessly into the dry down and you feel enveloped in its sensuality. As my husband said the other night, “It just floats about you and doesn’t overwhelm in any way”. You will not feel perfumed or overly scented. Vanille Violette will accent your own femininity and make you feel beautiful.
*By the way, this was brought back in the last 6 months or so in 3.4 oz bottles. Lush Oasis has it as do some other sites.

I puchased this after reading the reviews here and am so glad I did! This is sweet & pretty and smells predominately of violet sans any green notes. After reading the reviews about it smelling like cotton candy I could somewhat smell what they were referring to when I first sprayed it on, although to me it smells more like very sweet violets intially. The dry down is lovely, soft and delicious and not as sweet. The scent seems to have good lasting properties as I catch whiffs of it hours after spraying it on. My BF really likes this too and commented on how pretty I smelled with no prompting! I think anyone who likes sweet, feminine scents would like this one. The only problem is is finding this stuff! I lucked out and got a bottle on Ebay, but Sephora, who used to carry this, has discontinued it. If anyone knows where this can be purchased, please, please e-mail me, I love it!

My favorite scent to date for all good reasons too, just the right blend of violet and vanilla to me, what is surprising is that there are notes of rose that I really cannot notice. I think many people mistake this perfume to be solely a vanilla fragrance when it is more violet based.
Anytime I have this on, it doesn’t matter what age, child or adult, male or female, it always makes them ask what smells so lovely. And it always brings a smile to the crankiest people I know. If there are fans of the Lolita Lempicka perfume, this beats it for me as compared to Laurence Dumont’s, it smells chemically overpowering. Plus the low price definitely helps, usually $10-$16 at Sephora. Sad thing is that it is temporarily out of stock.
Found this tidbit about violet pretty interesting:
“Gather them while ye may…. ” Napolean’s Josephine wore Violet perfume because it’s unique quality; the chemical ionone makes it “disappear” to the nose then “reappear” later. Josephine’s was the first recorded case of using this lovely trick deliberately to make herself more alluring.
Makes sense… : )
