Updating to add: This re-discovered JCB is my “right now” hands-down favorite scent. Misting it on even after applying a different fragrance seems to enhance anything I wear which are mostly vanilla based or oriental type fragrances. It’s another reason for decanting this into a spray atomizer which delivers a finer mist than the original bottle it came in. Body sprays probably aren’t meant to last this long but I never had the heart to dump something that I once loved so much. Glad I didn’t !
*Would not repurchase the new formula based on other reviews I’ve read. Old vintage yes.
BTW I also found this to be true of the new version of Lavender Vanilla which I did compare to my very old bottle’s contents.
Not the same full rich fragrance.
This is a review based on an old bottle of Japanese Cherry Blossom body spray that has resided in my stash of body sprays in the closet. It’s probably 10-11 years old.
Yes, that’s right. I used to love it but it just got to be too much, too heavy and I quit wearing it.
I’ve been wanting to fill-in my summery fragrance categories a bit more with interesting “finds.” I love finding beautiful fragrances that have been finishing out their lives on discounter’s shelves and off-the-beaten-track places. I don’t want to smell my fragrance everywhere I go on everyone. I’m not a pack follower. Not. So, thinking laterally and “out of trend” is a great method!
Yesterday I was scanning reviews about a particular fragrance deciding whether to purchase said fragrance and I’m not going to tell what that was because you should come to your own discoveries and impressions. However, one of the last reviews I read about that other EDP scent (not from BBW) stated that “it smells like BBW Japanese Cherry Blossom.”
I kind of stared at the screen for a minute and did that, “huh?” So off I went to dig out my almost full bottle of old BBW Japanese Cherry Blossom body spray and give it a sniff. Suddenly the “lemony” and “baby powdery” and “plastic doll” smells all started popping out of this JCB which is strong enough to be an EDT at least. It still smells fabulous. I see why the one reviewer compared that other fragrance to JCB. That gave a whole new impression of JCB.
I loved it so much I wore it into my sweet sleeping nighttime.
So here we have it, a re-imagining of a scent I already knew and had loved. I was planning to buy a pretty Giraffe (brand) atomizer or something for it and then recalled one (not Giraffe) I already owned with some neutral salt spray and used that one. I just like little bottles and not seeing the original bottle helps hold onto that new “vision” of this JCB.
I feel like I just bought a new perfume. I “get it” now.
Most of us do spend so much time looking at the neighbor’s greener grasses and don’t even realize the hidden gems hiding in our own closets. Finding new perfumes is like treasure hunting but remember to look at and wear your collection.
I’ll probably still buy that other scent if I see it somewhere but it isn’t pressing at me anymore. Where I used to layer this JCB on with it’s heavy lotion I will now just spritz this on lightly over something like my favorite Burt’s Bees with that soft vanilla scent. Applied lightly, misted on, I can see this being a wonderful interesting not too sweet fragrance for now and even into warmer months.
I haven’t tried the new formula and I really don’t take time to stop into BBW these days.
I can’t promise that finding a vintage of this online somewhere will yield such a nice fragrance as mine but it may! I’ve always stored all my scents in dry cool closets or under bed storage.
I don’t keep them in steamy bathroom cabinets and there are no smokers anywhere around.
I’m sure those factors count.
Have fun exploring and giving your collection another look over!

I’ve been using this for years. I finally ran out of my body sprays. I bought a new supply. Doesn’t smell anything like it did. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t smell of anything at all. Nothing. All I get is a faint musk in the air but nothing at all on my skin. It’s just water with alcohol and a faint whiff of sweet musk. Tossed it in the trash. Then realized I could return them, so I did. Don’t waste your money.

Top Notes: plum, pear, apple
Heart Notes: mimosa, tuberose, lily, Kyoto rose petals, Japanese cherry blossom
Base Notes: sandalwood, amber, patchouli, cinnamon, Himalayan cedar, oakmoss, musk, vanilla
I love anything with cinnamon in it, and can usually tell when a fragrance has it in the base notes. So color me shocked to find that this is included in BBW’s Japanese Cherry Blossom. The sensual, warm cherry notes blast the cinnamon right off the map.
In a nutshell, this is a warm, sweet scent that’s been a staple of BBW’s signature collection for I think around 16-18 years now. I remember I was a teenager when this first hit the shelves, and I immediately fell in love with its exotic feminine fragrance.
I could see the lovely Elizabeth Taylor wearing this scent back in her heyday, that’s how lush and provocative this scent is, without going overboard into hoochie mama territory.
If you like having lots of fragrances in your collection, or you appreciate sweet, exotic scents, you will probably adore this fragrance.

Amazing scent. Can be worn year round but I prefer the spring and summer.
Nice and light but still detectable and just sweet enough

I love Bath and Bodywork’s Japanese Cherry Blossom scent. It’s such a classic, universal cherry blossom smell that I love so much. I find it’s perfect to wear during any season and it’s just such an elegant floral smell. If you look at the fragrance notes it contains on the website you will see how beautiful the smell really is! Will definitely re-purchase when my bottles run out.

Vile, vile, vile! Someone gave this to me, and I am glad I did not waste my money on this. The minute I smelled it, i got a horrible headache. i did not even attempt to spray any on me. I gave it away to my neighbor the same day. Way too strong.
