Notes from Fragrantica: Top note is floral notes; middle notes are coffee and rose; base notes are amber, vanila and white musk.
Mmmm…finally a Montale that I really love!! This is a warm and cozy rose and coffee scent, one in which I can actually smell the coffee note! (So many claim it’s there and my nose just can’t find it, but not the case with this one!!) The amber and musk give this a beautiful base, and the rose note stays strong throughout—a lush, red, sweet rose–no hint of green. The coffee is sweetened by the vanilla note, and although the note matrix doesn’t show it, I feel there is a hint of oud in there, especially in the opening. With so many Montales just not working for me, I am pleased this one is so enjoyable. Definitely full bottle worthy.

I agree with the previous review in that this smells nothing like coffee. It’s a sweet vanilla-rose and white musk. It reminds me a lot of Mancera’s Roses Vanille, but this one is a bit less sweet and the musk is a bit sharper and heavier. Starts to turn a bit powdery in the drydown.
Intense Cafe is a nice enough scent, but I prefer Roses Vanille for a vanilla-rose with musk, and there’s nothing Cafe, coffee, intense or amber about this fragrance.

I wish I could tell you whether Intense Cafe smelled like coffee. I can’t, though, because all I smell when I bring my wrist anywhere near my nose is a horrible, scratchy, cheap, floral musk that I cannot emphasize enough how much I cannot stand. It literally makes me recoil each time. I *think* it is ambroxan, which unfortunately is in more and more fragrances these days and causes this same reaction in me each time I smell it.
