There’s a lovely rose in there somewhere, but it’s smothered in mustiness. It smells like an old bottle of perfume, where you’re not sure if it’s just a dated style of fragrance, or it’s actually gone bad.

Fleurs de Bulgarie by Creed smells like what a very black, gothic rose might smell like. Frankly, I don’t smell much of what most people would consider as a traditional ‘rose’ scent– nor do I smell much ‘powdery’ notes. What I do smell is a bitter musk type scent mixed with sharp, raw smell of rose stems. It is an interesting fragrance– very unusual. There is a hint of rose in there somewhere if I breathe deeply enough.
Very intriguing scent but I don’t think that I would want to smell like this. Creed should rename this “Gothic Rose” or something like that.

This is a strong, nostalgic floral blend. Everyone keeps mentioning the musk and amber in the reviews, but I don’t smell any amber. The ‘musk’ I get is probably white musk, because it’s Powder City. The powdery element is so strong I thought it might be incense. It’s way more intense than the roses themselves, roses being maybe a third/a quarter of the blend, and barely detectable in the drydown. Before it dried down I also got something like almond/heliotrope/vanilla. It’s nice enough but I prefer fresher, more natural smelling scents. The balance between powder–rose just seems out of balance to me here.
UPDATE. Meh, I recently revisited this scent. So weird! This time I got a gorgeous jammy rose, very elegant and pleasant. A little too refined for my style, perhaps, but I liked it a lot better this time around! It pays to revisit scents down the road!
