I tried a sample of this last night,
No, just NO!!
It is a joyless. piney/incense fragrance that made me
feel slightly nauseous.
Not in the least bit feminine or attractive.
Maybe it would work on a man.
It is quite strong and lasts for ages.
The beautiful bottle is the best bit about it.

This is what I keep hoping other incense fragrances will smell like but never do. It’s a perfect mix of woods, fir, smoke, spice, and resins. It smells like being up high in the mountains by a winter bonfire. For all that, it manages a warmth and accessibility that many incense fragrances miss.
I’ve had more compliments on this one than any other scent I own.
Stays close to the skin. People have to get close to me to smell it, which makes it perfect for work and other places where I don’t want to project clouds of scent. It lasts well on me, especially if I get a little on my clothing. I can smell traces of it a good 8 hours after application.

Oh, man, I really tried to like this one, but every time I put it on I end up quickly scrubbing it off again. The opening is just so terrible that I can’t even bear to wait for the dry down. Annick Goutal does floral right—Le Chevrefeuille is heavenly—so I had high hopes for Encens Flamboyant. I must add that I love incense scents, and I’m on a quest to try anything and everything with incense notes. Unfortunately, as soon as I put this on I immediately envision myself dressed in sweatpants with a sloppy ponytail, scrubbing out the bathtub with comet cleanser. I’ve tried so many times to like this, but there’s something sharp that gives my nose the impression of detergent. It makes me so sad that this doesn’t work for me.

Encens Flamboyant is hard and inaccessible to me. I love most incense and woods fragrances, but something about this fragrance is too harsh, never settling down and blending with my skin. It’s not for lack of trying that I don’t like this fragrance – I was so convinced by the notes (incense, pepper, fir) and reviews that I would like it, and have sampled it many times.
Encens Flamboyant opens with a blast of pine-y resin, like dusty pine needles on a forest floor, but just too sharp, as if you were sitting in those needles and they kept pricking you uncomfortably. The incense smells cold, stale and soapy to me, but not like the glorious soapy incense of L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer. As it dries down, the fragrance never softens and warms – the nose-searing pepper lingers through all stages. If you want a standoffish, cold incense fragrance, then maybe this is for you.

Magnificent. It does not make me think of church, but of the olibanum tree itself, and the arid landscape it grows in. The other notes are there merely to accentuate the frankincense. Rough, outdoorsy, exhilarating.

Powdered incense of a nice variety. Fades pretty quickly and doesn’t outlast four hours, but is very warm and lovely while it does. Not different enough for FB but still well executed and a great basic incense scent. About perfect for this time of year (winter)

I was drawn to this scent when a SA at the Bon Marche sprayed it into the air for a customer. It wafted over to me and I was hooked. The SA sprayed it on me and I walked around for a few hours and returned to the store to purchase it. This is not a scent for everyone since it seems to smell entirely different on people. I’ve had it for a few years now and I love it mostly in cool weather. The staying power is amazing and while it smells woodsy at first, it turns into something more feminine and soft after a few hours. One of my absolute faves and I thought I hated incense.

I inherited this from my late sister who really loved smokey, spicy, mysterious scents like this one. To me, it is kind of deep, fresh greens, reminiscent of a pine forest at night, with a fire going of course. It even smells kind of Pine Solish at times and is not my favorite scent for that reason. However, it is different and intriguing, with many top notes and layers, very complex. Not a bad scent for me, but I usually go for more feminine floral oriental type scents which smell better on me anyway.

like a campfire with deep dark bassnotes that leave intoxicated with the feeling of being somewhere mysterious and old………when i wear it i think of ‘cold’ and with touches of indian spices but none overpower the other…..if you do not like smokey scents, this is not for you….but its not a ‘smokers’ scent…..it smells like a campfire outside 3000 years ago in india with tiny winds of a sweet spice that seem to roam in and out…..ive actually taken fondly to spraying my curtain in my bedroom with it to make my room smell like an ancient den….haha!

I love this. LOVE it. I tried some random Goutal years ago and wrote off the brand as not my style, but I’ve been intrigued by the AF/MA/EF trio. Keep in mind that I love smoke. I am the girl who actually uses Diptyque’s John Galliano room spray (which smells intensely of smoke) as a perfume and recently described my current idea of a perfect fall scent as a pine forest on fire. That said, EF is amazing. It’s very dry and resinous on me – dry smoke, dark frankincense, maybe a hint of spice (black pepper), a bit of gunpowder. About 8 hours later, it’s still there and I’m getting a bit of animalic musk that I haven’t seen mentioned in other reviews, but nonetheless seems to be there. I really like this and can not wait to try the other two in the trio. I bought the mini, but it’s FBW for me.
