Oh, the nostalgia! I was not allowed to wear perfume as a high school freshman. But my middle school age stepsister was! And she had Exclamation and Debbie Gibson’s Electric Youth. The Electric Youth was my favorite by far, with it’s juicy fruity smell and that neon pink coil in the bottle. I stole it off her dresser all the time. My mother eventually relented and gifted me with a bottle of Anais Anais (probably in hopes she wouldn’t have to smell a cloud of Electric Youth every time I came back from Dad’s) but I kept a torch for the foofy bottle of atomized fruit juice. If I found another bottle for a decent price, would I get it? You betcha! I start humming “Shake Your Love” every time I think about this perfume.

I am on my third bottle. Another perfume from my teen years, it has a sweet floral young flirty girly smell. I have always loved this! It still smells the same 23 years later!

Sweet memories. My High school boyfriend bought me a bottle of this. I remember looking at him and thinking “Debbie Gibson?!” See, we we’re Metal heads. Debbie Gibson was hated. (secretly loved her) There I was huge hair spraying this on. Loved the scent! Fruity and zingy. Reminds me of better days. Youthful craziness. Some of the best summers. Yes, I would definitely buy this again. Just to re-live those sweet memories. 🙂

Ok, so I too, longed to refresh the memories I had of “my first perfume” lol. I bought a bottle from e-Bay and was all excited to get the package! I sprayed on a couple of sprays on my wrist and sniffed. They say they stopped production in 2004, but who knows how old my bottle was. It smelled like I remembered but maybe also a bit off too. More amber-y? not sure….hmmm…well what could I expect from an old fragrance which I know I bought for novelty reasons along with nostalgia.
But then… all the bad just went away and then I remembered why this scent worked so well for so many. It was so powdery soft, it makes you want to smell yourself, every few minutes, just for the olfactory joy it gives!
It really is the dry-down that “makes” this scent and it is similar in some ways to the sweetness of Britney Spears Fantasy – except Fantasy is a bit more in-your-face with its’ presence and less powdery, more sweet, sugary with some cocoa. This one smells powdery fresh but yet so much unlike a baby powder scent and was perfect for a teen’s first perfume, so that a mother wouldn’t get offended at all with her daughter wearing this and smelling cheap and trashy. lol. Wikipedia lists it as a blend of citrus and other fruit essential oils, however I don’t really get much fruit from it…other than maybe the top notes….Maybe a hint of orange flower? Amber too but then the light musk with the dry-down. Ahhhhhh…love! I am seriously going to think about getting another bottle of this- yes the lame one with hot pink “barbed wire”. This or Armani’s Mania which is supposed to smell very much like this. I tested it in Sephora last time I was there…but will test it again with EY on the other wrist to compare!

I never owned this when it was popular as my family didn’t have money to spare for it. I always would sneak a spray of the tester whenever I could find one. I’m not ashamed to say I bought my first bottle (and wear it in public) just a few years ago, with the little lightning bolt. One spray lasts all day- its soft sweetness lingered on my jacket the next day.
I remember girls clouding themselves with this in jr. high after sneaking a butt in the bathroom…my stomach doing little flip-flops when a cute boy walked by…ah the memories. I have looked high and low for a scent description: the best I could find was at timeless perfumes, who described it as “classic, refined, oriental woody. Feminine spicy blend with lasting hints of an amber incense.” Reminds me a lot of Coty’s Ici, except that Ici has a bit more fruitiness and the cocoa note to it. I agree toally with the reviewer below…what’s wrong with loving who your 13 year-old self was- she will always be a part of you…

I had a crisis evening recently and longed for simpler times. In this state I got online and bought Exclamation, Electric Youth, Love’s Baby Soft…you get the idea. When I got the package, I waited for DH to leave before opening it because I was so appalled at myself. The crisis had passed, as with all shopping-related therapy and here I was sheepishly holding a box of garbage. How wrong I was!! Fragrance is such a personal thing and there is no need for shame in loving something again that your 13 year old self loved. Electric Youth-even after sitting for Lord knows how long in a warehouse somewhere-smelled exactly the same! It is soft and sweet and faintly fruity. Maybe unripened peaches, powder and candy? I am terrible at IDing notes. The lasting power is surprisingly good as well-at least 8 hours-impressive. Anyways, I was instantly happier when sniffing this quirkly little bottle and now I wear it to bed for sweet juvenille dreams or whenever I need a pick me up.
