I have the 2017 version. It starts with green notes clashing with florals. To me this stage smells like rotting daffodils and mint toothpaste. After about 30 mintues it dries down to a lovely airy Lily of the Valley, Lilacs, Soap, and hints of the tiny spicy Boronia flowers I used to grow on a bush in my garden. Its lovely but sadly this nice stage fades so quickly, that its almost gone in the next 30 minutes.
Top Notes – Galbanum, Bergamot, Calyx
Heart Notes – Lily of the valley, Jasmine, Lilac, Boronia, Ylang ylang, Rose, Amaryllis
Base Notes – Rosewood, Sandalwood, Civet

I’ve recently become obsessed with Christian Dior. Not just the products but the man himself as well. I have been reading up on him and find we have a lot in common. And through all my research, just like Christian Dior, I have become such a huge fan of the Lily of the Valley. I have been finding myself drawn to fragrances that are based on this delicate and beautiful flower.
Diorissimo was one of the first fragrances that Dior himself actually created. He worked with perfumer Edward Roudnitska in 1956 to create a fragrance that captured the scent of his private gardens. Dior was a huge fan of flowers and kept lush gardens at all of his homes in France. This was something he kept from his childhood as his mother turned him onto the love of flowers. In fact Christian Dior was often quoted saying “After women, flowers are the most lovely thing God has given the world.”
Christian Dior was very superstitious and the Lily of the Valley was one of his lucky charms and he always wore a sprig of it in his lapel or carried in his pocket. He even sewed them into the hems of all of his garments prior to a fashion show in order to bring good luck and success to the collections he was showing to the world. He believed that the Lily of the Valley was a symbol of hope, good fortune and happiness.
When Dior set out to create a Lily of the Valley based scent he said he wanted Diorissimo to be the “scented expression of his soul”. The notes of the fragrance include Lily of the Valley, Ylang Ylang and Jasmine. It is a very light and simple floral scent perfect for Spring and Summer. I find this to be such a beautiful scent and it plays well with others. For instance today I have paired it with a beautiful gardenia based body cream and the two go lovely together.
Diorissimo has become one of my favorite scents ever and I’ve been wearing it quite a bit of late. It is perfect for the warm Florida weather. It has a nice throw, meaning others can smell it as you walk by but it is so light that it is not over powering or “too much”. The wear ability or lasting power of it is also amazing as it seems to last all day long without being too heavy. I find this can be a great unisex scent too if you know a man who is maybe into more than just a citrusy or woodsy fragrance.

I couldn’t say if this is my absolute favorite perfume, but it’s up there in my top 5 and I’m a perfumeholic (I have 30 and have sampled countless). It is simply divine, pure and floral.

I love lily of the valley and good lotv fragrances are hard to find. Diorissimo is one of the best. So why have it ticked that I would not repurchase? Like most lotv fragrances it has very little staying power on me. Instead, I get my lotv fix by using Splendor by Elizabeth Arden or Muguet de Bois by Coty. Neither of them has the warmth or animalic beauty of Diorissimo but they satisfy my craving for lotv.
I have found that I can make Coty Muguet de Bois last longer and smell more like Diorissimo by layering it with a musk attar purchased on Ebay. This gives it the animalic note as well as making it last longer. As for EA Splendor, there’s nothing I can do to make it smell like Diorissimo, but then again, I don’t really want to. It’s sharp, fruity notes make it perfect for hot weather without being cloying.
A final note: I personally have found that the eau de toilette has just as good staying power as the eau de parfum in the newest formulation of Diorissimo, so if you’re purchasing, bear that in mind. As always, a thin layer of vaseline before applying fragrance tends to make it last longer.

I have to agree that Diorisdimo starts with really sharp notes that are everywhere and then dries down to a really nice, fleeting scent. It’s such a shame with the sharp and unpleasant beginning as that’s when you have sillage. For me, the drydown is classy, breezy and downright perfect but the first notes make the perfume unwearable. Such a shame!

“There is no true lily of the valley in this, as LOTV is very poisonous.”
I realize this thread is very old, but I had to chime in because of the above, it’s so ridiculous.
There never was natural LOTV used in the original formula of Diorissimo because the scent of LOTV is so light and fleeting that it would take every LOTV in the world and then some to create a bottle.
From the Wikipedia entry about Roudnitsa, the creator of Diorissimo:
“His scents for Christian Dior established his reputation as one of the greatest perfumers of the 20th century.[citation needed] The landmark Diorissimo, a fragrance based on the smell of lily of the valley, marked a formidable achievement in the field of perfumery. Unlike rose or jasmine, the smell of lily of the valley cannot be extracted. Roudnitska circumvented the problem by creating a near-perfect reconstruction of the smell of this flower [3]:142.”
Like Chanel No. 5, Diorissimo is a combination of synthetic, and natural ingredients. Actually, every perfume is.
Perhaps the modern versions of Diorissimo are different from the originals but not for this reason.

I don’t know the story about the reformulation but I can say I like what I received in the mail from Saks today. I was wrong about thinking it smelled like Muget de Bois by Coty this is so much nicer EDT. I went with the smallest 1.7 oz as a risk. I read somewhere that Princess Diana wore this which makes sense. The bottle from the past was different and the box was a pink instead of the white it is now. I said yes to getting it again.

I love this perfume. My two other favourites are Dior’s Forever and Ever and Chloe by Chloe edp. I smell lily of the valley and jasmine. I find it is not very long lasting on my skin, hence I gave it four rather than five. I always feel like a princess wearing it. A very classical, elegant scent that makes you feel more polished

I was looking for a LOTV for the spring and where to go but the Dior counter, especially in a country that offers very limited options? To my surprise Diorissimo opened with a strong blast of heavy, sulphuric, green floral that evoked a huge plant with big, fleshy leaves, crushed stems and some sambac gassiness. It was as loud as Michael Kors’s Michael on me. Obviously not what I had in my mind when I thought about those cute flowers and graceful Diorissimo. Yet, give it half an hour and I was left with a very pleasant, fleeting smell, both optimistic and demure at the same time. I started thinking of all things “proper”, five o c’lock teas with round chinabone cups, A-line skirts decorated with small flowers and little laughters. However, I think Diorissimo goes way beyond this ready-packed image in my mind. I think this is a woman who wears all-natural, organic fabrics, chic leather sandals, perhaps a big hat while taking a stroll along a promenade in a seaside town. I’m giving it a 3.5 because the projection is really low on my skin and it doesn’t deliver very reliably.
