Aldehydic Woody Floral is Dia Woman with loose-ish connections to Arpege , Tom Ford’s discontinued (grrrr ) Fleur de Chine , Chanel No 5 and stronger ties to Amouage Gold and Hermes Caleche .Even next to Hermes Caleche , Dia Woman is sweeter and less strident.
This is a beautiful classic type of fragrance.Fizzy abstract florals and a woody sweet drydown. Very classy . I am obsessed with aldehydes and abstract scents.
if you like sugary bombs like Black Opium you may or may not like Dia Woman. Who knows ? It may win you over . Sample .
If you love vintage-y scents like no 5 and Caleche you will adore Dia.
The questions is merely ..do you want to spend USD $315 before tax on a 100 ml bottle of Dia or not. That is all.
I do .

aldehydic floral that opens in a sparkling fashion and is relatively warm and quiet in the dry down. Very well blended. Lighter and less dusky than a mid century aldehydic floral. No sharpness.
Supposed to be the lighter ‘day’ scent to sister Amouage gold (for night). However even in the far dry down, Dia seems the stronger of the two fragrances on my particular skin chemistry at least. (Hollyc01 below seemed to have a similar experience). I dab sparingly on the wrist.
Amouage dia was created by Ellena in 2002. Dia is dense and is different from his more transluscent work for Hermes and closer in style to his Van Cleef and Arpel composition First. Accords are fig, cyclamen, bergamot, tarragon, sage and violet leaves; peach blossom, rose oil, orange flower, peony and orris; white musk, incense, vanilla, heliotrope, cedarwood, sandalwood and Guaiac wood.

A wonderful, rich, sophisticated and elegant fragrance. It gives me a chic and warm presence. I keep getting compliments 🙂
The price is steep, but I think good things just cost… And it prevents me from smelling like the neighbors!
Love it, love it, love it.

Beautiful, very elegant and sophisticated if you like clean, powdery aldehydes. In this case, talcum powder rather than your makeup bag. I like aldehydes of this sort; they evoke a feeling of vastness, stability, almost timelessness in me. Almost like a chic comfort fragrance. This is what Dia does on my skin, and it does it very well indeed. There aren’t any sulphuric or chemical smelling edges. It is exceptionally soft and round for this genre and I like how abstract it is. I also enjoy the fact that there aren’t any floral or animalic undertones here. It’s probably less complex on my skin but I like its simplicity, like the subdued elegance of a well-made white shirt. This would be FBW for me in a world of unlimited access and finances, but in reality I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to spare money for it. Still, it’s very similar to Rive Gauche on my skin, so I don’t feel sorry for not being able to afford it. Medium sillage and lasting power of 4 hours.

Top notes: fig, cyclamen, bergamot, tarragon, sage and violet leaves
Middle : precious and fresh flowers: peach blossom, rose oil, orange flower, peony
Base: white musk, misterious incense, vanilla, heliotrope, cedarwood, sandalwood and Guaiac wood.
Created by Jean-Claude Ellena in 2002.
Dia is a spacious white airy floral bearing all the best hallmarks of a Jean Claude Ellena creation. Very rosey, like many Amouages, and extremely well-crafted.
Just heady enough, just sweet enough, just green enough, and rich and deep without being overly strong.
Dia seems custom-made for me, and I would see it as a sister to the Jardin series fragrances Ellena has made for Hermes. A wonderful floral made without cutting corners, and the packaging completes it.

Tester insert says: “Epitomising confidence and radiance, this is a day wear fragrance that is vibrant and sophisticated – a perfect complement to Amouage Gold.”
I like Amouage Gold quite a bit, esp the Men’s one. The Goldies have a bit of twists and turns, a bit of chypre undertones make them chic while the wonderful basenotes take you to a destination that is warm and snuggy.
Dia Women is a big comforting blanket wrapped around you from boot. It would be wonderful to wear this in winter, all wrapped up and while it’s all windy and wet a whiff of lovely warm smell oozes from your clothes, from your scarf, from your skin. It reminds you that there is an end to Winter, but while it is still going on it’s tolerable or almost enjoyable as long as you have sprayed on Dia. It’s totally linear but who wants to get out of this lovely big blanket while you are happily snoozing?
Earlier commentators compare it to Chanel No. 5 and Caleche… while I can see some similarity Dia is much more linear than either. The scent that it is nearest in smell and feel is (one of the recent ones I have tested, can’t recall more distant past) is Lorenzo Villoresi’s Teint de Neige.
As for the individual notes… I can’t tell them apart, I am too busy imagining the big warm blanket as it’s just so enjoyable!
“Luxury day wear, a fragrance that is both sophisticated and vibrant, a perfect copmlement to Amouage Gold.”
The Men Dia is v forgettable… it’s nice and macho and that’s all I can remember about it.
5 for Women, 2 for Men

This is just Magnificant…it is absolute class and sophisticated and 100% feminine …My DOH bought me a 100ml bottle for Christmas and its my best best best perfume…just feel so lovely wearing it …starts off beautiful soft white flowers with a slight touch of aromatic herbs..then the drydown is omg my abs favourite ever vintage Rive Gauche on me that is….And you can smell Dia lingering on your clothes for days afterwards bliss….The bottle is French lead crystal with very chunky and heavy ..the cap is rose pink gold with a little ruby coloured stone in the middle ot it…its expensive no doubt ..but worth every penny as the bottle will last years as ou only need a couple of spritzs and if stored in a cool dark place ..I keep my collection of perfumes in a huge Narnia style wardrobe..only when they are empty do I display them…..

Dia was hideous, stinky, loud, ash tray on me. I like florals, and
rose is a favorite note, but it was hard to find in this train wreck.
No resemblance to No.5 or Caleche for me. Dia is a
70-something grand dame gone beserk on a permanent bender.

It may be too sophisticated for me, but I love this fragrance. I made the mistake of putting some on before bedtime and kept waking up all night, thinking “what IS that fragrance?”. It is extremely intense. I particularly love the tarragon note in it.

Ahhhh, Nirvana. Sharp, floral aldehyde with just the right amount of spice and animalics. It’s rich and very intense. I actually sometimes dab a bit of Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Civet oil on top to really make a statement and they blend beautifully. I don’t get the comparisons to No. 5, never been a fan at all, I find 5 flat, boring and somehow depressing. But not my beloved Dia. I also don’t get that it is a lighter Gold. I actually find Dia packs more of a punch and has unbelievable lasting power. Still smelling it in all its glory the next morning and that’s on skin not cloth. Gold is richer, smoother and quieter. I love and adore them both. Worth trying and worth buying. So strong a 100 ml bottle should last years. Heart Amouage and don’t even mind their prices for this kind of quality. Beautiful.
