Serge Lutens Clair de Musc remains the only fragrance of this line that I can wear, and I have tried most of them. On me it is a soft, soapy, clean musk and that is exactly what I like about it. It is a skin scent that is comforting for all seasons, and one of the few scents I wear after I shower in the evenings because I find it soft enough to sleep in. The price tag is steep at $120 for 1.7 oz. I like the packaging, a simple, sleek glass bottle that comes with a round screw cap as well as a sprayer head, so it is very convenient for travel, no danger of leakage of the expensive juice. Clair de Musc has become a staple in my fragrance wardrobe and I have repurchased this several times over the years.

Hmm, this is a pretty interesting one. I don’t get the soapiness quality that others depict. For me, this is a raw, earthy white musk with . . . iris, maybe? It’s not particularly sweet or even sensual, but the floral quality makes me think that this is more of a feminine fragrance. “Floral musk,” however, doesn’t seem to quite do this scent justice. I picture a solitary lavender-gray iris, stem, dirt, leaves and all, sprouting against a stark landscape at dusk, rather than a garden of flowers swaying in the breeze. I find the scent both pleasant and interesting, but the linear quality, for whatever reason, becomes disconcerting as the juice continues to wear and linger. I’m glad I ordered a sample from Aedes, but I’m not tempted to purchase a full bottle.

Still remember when I was in highschool, my best friend was crazy about Body Shop’s musk products, from body lotion to shampoo… that really drove me nut. This is not a strong musk scent, it does not have the animalistic and dirty side to it. This is a very clean, gentle, well-behaved and polite floral musk, quite classy and office-friendly. If you are a hard-core musk fan, then this might not be for you.
