Curry, thyme and overly honeyed fruit tinged with immortelle. Starts vegetal, but thankfully Morphes out of that quickly, I had a visceral initial distaste for this, but more respect for it than Une Bois Sepia. The only other fragrances where I got a distinct curry (not merely cumin, which I can wear) are Goutals Nuit de Hadrian and bizarrely Hermes Kelly Caleche ( I should disclose that in general I prefer the older Hermes vintage Bel Ami, Equipage, Vent Vert to the newer offerings, though I am a fan of Ellena’s work in the Frederic Malle lineup).
It’s not too cloying. chalking this up to a skin chemistry issue.
Note: if you dislike this initially, I still suggest trying again in the future. I learned this lesson when I retried Caron Yatagan, an epic fail for me for years. Suddenly, this year, Yatagan works well on my skin. . .

Vegetable Stock. A spice like thyme? Vegetable Thins crackers? Or curry powder?

This ia a strange perfume, i love it and hate it at ths same time. first i have to ask where is the chypre? on me it starts quite medicinal and after a aminute or two it turnes into hot black tee and dried fruit, mostly figs, dates and raisins and some wood. but after ten minutes or so a cat urine accord sneeks in from time to time and turns this perfme into an unwearable one.

Starts out feminine but ends up masculine. Definately a beautiful spicy- sweet fragrance for a man.

This is a fragrance that’s extremely MAJOR. It’s full of exotic spices, sweet fruits and woods. It’s one of Serge Lutens’ Haute Concentration series. As with many SLs, this is not for everyone. For some it could be overwhelming and perhaps even a bit odd due to the spices (as prior reviewers have commented), but, for me, as a layering component, it’s absolutely great, works with all my other SL frags (and I have quite a few). On me it doesn’t smell like Indian food either (as someone said it did on them). The notes include thyme, pine needles, pecans, fruit gums, honey, beeswax, jasmine, patchouli, amber, vanilla, moss and musks. I can’t say it’s my personal favorite SL (thus only 4 lippies), but I do find myself using it often in a variety of ways and combinations and I especially like it layered with Feminite du Bois.

Am I the only one who smell licorice? It is so sweet I felt sick. But my husband loved it and said it is the sexiest one he smelled on me. So I tried several times but no, it is sweet as burnt sugar.

All I smelled the first 25 minutes was celery. Spicy celery. After that it became somewhat pleasant, but who wants to go through 25 minutes of smelling like a salad to get to smelling decent?

I only had a sample, but now I wish I had a bottle!
I was wary about trying this scent due to the complaints about cumin.
Instead, I found the initial topnotes of Chypre Rouge to be a sweet cousin to Chene! I think they both have a hint of rum, moss and oak wood. From then, both fragrances diverge. While Chene is dry, Chypre Rouge is somewhat sweet and spicy. I believe the spices are coriander and nutmeg, not cumin. The drydown is a bag of spice drops candy and a hint of oakmoss – sweet but with some substance. It is long lasting, at least 6 hours on me after three sprays. Quite unique!

This makes me feel a little ill. It has a syrupy quality to it….maybe candied fruits that have sat too long.

Chypre Rouge is very similar in some notes to Arabie. But on my skin the coriander/cumin/curry notes come out very very strong. Too much like a strong curry or Indian food not sex sex sex. While I love Indian cuisine, I don’t want to necessarily wear it on my skin. So I’ll pass this on to someone else.
