I word Bill Blass Classic during the 90’s and was so in love with it. It became my most favorite perfume of all. After searching for some time for the original Bill Blass Classic, I finally found an online merchant on ebay that kept it in stock. I was so very dissapointed with my purchase. I tried it on. The familiar floral and fruity smell was there but it was not as strong as I remembered and it was overpowered by a more urine smell. I just assumed that because it was so old that it has lost its freshness.

I bought a bottle of this on clearance awhile back. To me it’s a very classy classic floral. Pretty. A little on the loud side even. In a good way. It has good longevity and projection. This perfume came out in 1978–when I was 20. So it fits in with the big fragrances from the 80’s. But for some reason this one does not smell dated to me. I can see why a lot of younger women might not like it. It’s not the type of scent that is popular nowadays. But for me it’s one that I can feel very comfortable wearing. I wouldn’t call it a casual fragrance but something you might want to wear when you are more dressed up. I have a lot of perfumes in my collection so I don’t reach for this that often but whenever I do I’m am struck by its quality and beauty.

The top notes of Bill Blass are exquisite At first I thought this was fantastic and gave it 5 lippies however after wearing it for a few weeks now I am liking it less It is still very wearable but I think there are more interesting fragrances out there I do like the freshness of this scent the original ( not the remake) The top note reminds me of chanel no 5 .The dry down smells like a faint version of Youth Dew My great grandmothers favorite fragrance I like the top notes better than the dry down which is just blah so its a pass on the Blass for me in the future

I’ve smelled both the original BB and the five star remake. I’ll admit, 5 star has pithed it a bit. In 5-stars, the really deep, probably expensive natural essences have been pulled and it’s thinner. But it’s still beautiful. However I’m actually giving 4 lippies for the original, and 3 and 1/2 for the 5-star version.
BB is one of those orange flower/jasmine vs. spicy balancers, like L’Origan, Divine Folie, Bellogia, White Shoulders, Tabac Blonde, Romeo Gigli. But BB is the furthest to the floral of any of them. It’s next closest neighbor is probably White Shoulders.
The top waft is primarily orange blossom/bergamot, with a jasmine and gardenia middle. Underneath is a really pretty, slightly woody base, sandalwood and vetiver to my nose. As the perfume dries down, a slightly spicy note begins to come out more. I’m thinking it’s eugenol standing in for carnation. During drydown, the spice and wood become a little more prominent by the minute till the fragrance, while still remaining primarily a pretty, delicate multifloral, still has a nice spice base.
The 5 star version is a little flat and there are moments of plastic. But it’s still awfully pretty and will make a great summer/spring day fragrance. It’s a floaty, pretty dress scent!

This was one of my favorite fragrances in the late eighties/early nineties. I wore this fragrance everyday, and enjoyed all of the compliments. I haven’t worn this in years and wasn’t even sure that it was still produced ~ once a fragrance is no longer available at a department store, it becomes obscure.
I found this while searching through drugstore.com and decided to buy it. When it arrived, I couldn’t wait to rip open the package, and conjure up some old fragrance memories. I was disappointed because it does not smell as good as I remember. It smelled like a plain, ole drugstore fragrance.
My DH came home and said, “You smell so good”, and then I felt better and somewhat less disappointed with my purchase. One lippie only, because I think this fragrance is different than it was twenty years ago. I am stuck with a large bottle of fragrance that I will not wear or buy again…

I agree with the other “dated” comments. It’s a perfume-y fresh floral. If I want to make sure I am wearing perfume, this would be a good one as it reminds me without shouting.

Found a ripped-open bottle of Bill Blass today at Winners, so I tried it since I pretty much try any scent I can get my hands on. It started out as, yes, a dated floral… I could see it being a popular 80s scent, it had that 80’s vibe down… and then it dried down a little bit… I have often heard other reviewers mention the dreaded urine note, and today I experienced it myself, right on my own wrist where I sprayed Bill Blass. It was a stale old dried-urine smell. Scrubber. No sale.

I, too used to wear this in the ’80s. So I ordered a bottle online. I just got it and it smells nothing like the Bill Blass I remember. It’s far too strong and just, well, different.

I wore Bill Blass back in the late 80s and I remember really liking it. However, I just ordered another bottle this past week and when I smelled it, it was different than I remembered. Every now and then I’d get a whiff of what it used to smell like, but it wasn’t the same. I noticed that 5 Star Fragrances is making this and I wonder if they bought out Bill Blass and maybe that’s why it doesn’t smell the same. Then again, maybe because it’s been more than 20 years since I’ve worn it, maybe my memory of it is faulty. It smells good, just not as I remembered.

Today I tested this “dated” Bill Blass by Bill Blass (his first fragrance!) and I like the scent from the first sniff. A delightful surprise: Womanly. Inviting. Warm. A cross between Estee Super, Chloé and Yendi by Capucci. I can smell creamy tuberose and soft spices. Very pleasant and round. No sharpness – no disharmony. Cosy, well-balanced, ultra-feminine, and subtle. Here the following two descriptions for your info: Olfactive family: Floral. Olfactive description: Green Fruity Floral(Muguet, Mimosa, Hyacinth) Spicy(Cinnamon) Angelica Woody(Vetiver, Cypress, Sandalwood).—- Year Introduced: 1978. Top Notes: Galbanum, hyacinth, pineapple, greens, bergamot, geranium. Heart Notes: Iris, tuberose, carnation, ylang-ylang, orris Base Notes: Amber, sandalwood, benzoin, cedarwood, oakmoss. “From American designer Bill Blass comes a classic floral bouquet. Like his clothing designs, the fragrance is subtle, elegant…uniquely Blass. A feminine scent, featuring sweet fruits, florals, amber, and wood notes. Pineapple, bergamot, and greens pave the way for a heart of iris, tuberose, and carnation. A soft base of amber, sandalwood, and oakmoss will imprint itself upon your memory. An excellent choice for daytime or light evening wear. “© – Scent Profile by Jan Moran author Fabulous Fragrances II © 2006 –
