I think this is just overwhelmingly beautiful. Still haven’t bought the full bottle yet I sure will. On my skin, it starts off with a blast of pure and cold hyacinth, making me think about a perfect violet flower encapsulated in a block of ice. As it progresses, it becomes milder, softer while exuding silky elegance. In spite of the cold start, I see it as more of a sensual, carnal fragrance, restrained and controlled of course, yet fiercely seductive.

I love iris, hyacinth and galbanum (I adore Chamade, no 19, FM iris poudre, iris silver mist), so I should love Bas de Soie, but I don’t. Part of it is that I don’t sense that the florals were alive. For example, in iris silver mist, I can almost see the earth and roots surrounding the irises; in Chamade, the green pollination of hyacinth bursts around me; in no 19, it’s an ode to galbanum.
The opening on my skin chemistry smells like a cheap sharp shampoo. The dry down is better, in that it softens, (and becomes a little more hyacinth) but not anything remarkable. If I was given a bottle, Iwould probably regift it. I suppose it could be considered the modernized, sanitized version of training wheels for no 19 vintage EdT or Chamade extrait. It is cool toned, not warm (like Chamade).
Two lippies for the meritorious dry down.
Note: I don’t know if Hawthorne is listed in the notes, but I get a sense of it here. For those who adore FM Dans de Bras or Eau d’Hiver, this is another option. More than one blog has stated that this is similar to 28 la pausa, Chanel or Hermes hiris, But I am not familiar with either.

This is how I imagine an Ice maiden would smell like.
The iris & hyacinth create a feeling of iciness, a sharp metallic feeling, it’s soapy, clean & green too. When I smelled it the first thought that popped into my mind was “regal”. In my minds eye I can picture the woman wearing this: she’s aloof, elegant, cold, & strikingly beautiful. It reminds me of Chanel 19 because of the iris & hyacinth interplay but No19 is more powdery & green however Bas de soie isn’t as powdery.

This is a distinct Galbanum Chypre scent with a lovely iris incense behind and a soft touch of hyacinth. I’m not a huge fan of galbanum because it does tend to devolve into that inimitable ‘forest floor’ rotting green note, but in this case, it’s blended in balance enough to turn this into, on me, a chypre version of Iris de Nuit or Infusion d’Iris. Lovely.

The iris is sweet yet woody, somehow they have put a rich powdery oriental tonality to this that modernises the astringent effect of classics like Cristalle and stident iterations like hyacinth Bluebell. I often think nowadays that one should study consumer perfumery and then just buy all of Lutens. Gosh, I could have saved up for many trips to Paris!

Oh my, I have finally worked out what this smells like a cross between Vosene shampoo (herbal, anti dandruff!) and my local dry cleaners- and I love it. At first the odd, chemical finished, new garment smell really disturbed me, but it has really grown on me. Curiously, I don’t get any floral notes on me this is super synthetic smelling but in a good way. I left a tester trip in a bag with a brand new Liberty scarf and just couldn’t stop sniffing it. Sadly, it doesn’t last long on my skin. Also reminds me a little of CdG Odeur 53 and Joop , both of which I was rather fond of back in the day. Just not sure I should be splurging £80 or so on something that makes me smell like a freshly cleaned suit.

This is an uncharacteristic love for me; I haven’t been much of a floral person, and I tend to favour big scents. Bas de Soie is not one of those large fragrances, although it’s quite tenacious on me – I’m still getting faint whiffs of it, eight hours after application – and, I suspect, has quite a bit of sillage. Well-behaved, discreet sillage, but still.
On me, it’s a chilly, powdery and very elegant green floral with prominent iris and hyacinth notes; as much hyacinth as iris, I would say, although I do get both. The iris is slightly soapy and a little old-fashioned in feel, reminiscent of the lingering powder fragrance inside a vintage compact. The hyacinth is green and lifelike, and the clean base emphasises the old-fashioned cosmetics associations.
The real hook for me, though, is a hard-to-describe buttery quality that I can’t get enough of – smooth, rich, fatty, almost fleshy, a smoothness that feels slightly intoxicating in the same way that a good musk does. It’s probably a trick of the iris, possibly assisted by the pale musk in the base and something else. Whatever it is, I love it.
And so I had to have a bottle. Bas de Soie turned out to be the iris I couldn’t live without, to my surprise.

Hyacinth, Powdery accents, Iris…hmm not to my nose. Granted, I am a beginner but all I get is a sharp, aldehydic, metallic, decaying floral that just makes me gag. This is even worse than Secretions Magnifique. I love so many in the SL line, so this was a shocker!

I was shocked by all the good rewievs! Lucky I just get a sample. This smell like some greenish slime that has rotten in water!! Really, there is something very strange in this scent that does me fell sick – for real! I usually like Serge Lutens, but this…yuck!
