I read so many reviews of this oil, and had no idea what to expect. Some said it was earthy and herbal others said it was floral. Thankfully I tried this at the store because I hated it. It smells like ylang ylang and jasmine cat pee to be. I do not get sandalwood or rose notes from this at all. Not herbal or earthy, like you would expect something from Aveda to be. Couldn’t wait to wash it off.
Edit 5/17- changing my rating from 1 to 3. This is no longer in roll on concentrate form, but in a bottle as a composition oil. The smell is much lighter, and smells much better to me. It’s supposed to be sandalwood, frankincense, jasmine and vetiver, but I mostly smell frankincense. It fades fast, though, and smells different than before, so maybe those who like it before will be disappointed, but I think the change was an improvement.

Oh how I love Love!!! Been through a few bottles of this soothing, sensual aroma. Rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, sandalwood…dreamy, sexy, comforting, and men love it! It puts me into another state of mind…

I hate that I didn’t like this at all. I’ve been a fan and user of Aveda products for years now… this did nothing for me. I was very disappointed with the product description and how misleading it was. It smelled nothing like expected. I returned this item.

I really miss the oils Aveda had that you could mix and match. They even had the scents of their popular hair products (Shampure, the Brilliant line). I recently went to an Aveda store and this was one of the few things that I remember from Aveda circa mid 90’s. Love is something that smells kind of putrid from the bottle, but if it works with your chemistry, it can be quite nice. I picked up the roller ball because I was feeling all nostalgic. I am disappointed. The strength of this scent has been decreased by at least 75%. Now for those who are repulsed by it, it will save you a gag if you happen to sniff it not knowing what to expect. For those who remember Love pre Lauder days, it’s kind of annoying in a Lauder conspiracy way. Anyway, it stays close to the skin, lasts about 20 mins…(which is odd for an oil to do). Not worth the money in my opinion.

I bought this on impulse during my last visit at the Aveda Institute…and it is interesting. It smells like a woman at Bonnaroo who’s been dancing all day and night. Someone who may or may not have dreadlocks, uses henna and Dr. Bronner’s Magical soap, and plays guitar (badly). I am not this woman. Although, every once in a while, I have “earthy” days, and this is perfect for those, this is not an every day fragrance for me, and I prefer Aveda’s Blue Oil.

I got this as a gift from a friend who works at an Aveda salon… I was excited when I opened it because I was expecting a traditional fresh, yummy Aveda scent… this is not it… there is just something “off” in it, I don’t know if it is just the combination of the perfume on my skin but something reminds me faintly of urine… yeah, ew… it’s also kind of hard to apply, as others mentioned the roller does not, well, “roll” easily. I’ll use it up and forget about it.

PROS: Very patchouli, woodsy, earthy. But it does have some type of aphrodesical affect. Who knows? 😉 Don’t know if that’s a coicidence with it having that name. Lasts well for me. (Haven’t had it in a long time, but miss it.)
CONS: You should probably not buy this online if you haven’t smelled it before. It’s very, very distinct. Price.

Disappointing… doesn’t smell that good to me. I don’t get the sandalwood, which is what I was really craving. The roller doesn’t work very well, so it’s hard to apply. And, like other reviewers, it doesn’t stay on. Even an hour after I’ve applied it, it’s gone. May return it.

A scent for when you don’t want to wear scent. It’s a nice sandalwood with a hint of floral. Nothing terribly special about it or particularly offensive.

I tried this on and Yatra on today. Loved the Yatra and bought it (a bit pricey for an aveda product @ $70 but oh well). I used to really dislike the Love oil and yet I’m kind of enjoying it as well. It’s a pretty simple blend imho and I’m basically getting Sandalwood here. And btw, who is telling people that Jo Malone (I read the reviews here) is a natural product line? It’s NOT and Jo herself states that she prefers to use synthetics.
