I am thoroughly in love with Angelique Noire. It has all the things Guerlain does right with the classical guerlain vanilla but the angelica kicks it up and out of the usual vanilla base. I love wearing this year round and am very glad to have it in my overwhelminf collection of perfumes. If you like Shalimar Light, give Angelique Noire a try too. It is a beautiful scent, no doubt, and it smells different than the many vanilla fragrances available. Definitely worth owning a bottle. I’m on my second one, and I really have to like a scent to rebuy it since my collection is so vast.

I ordered a sample, with several other of the L’Art et la Matiere collection, from the Perfumed Court. I was having a good old time spraying my arms with all the new samples and ran out of skin to try Angelique Noire, so I sprayed one of my jacket sleeves. I was taken aback by the green bite and sheer bitterness of it. Where was the gorgeous guerlainade? I had heard AN was the most “Guerlain” of the lot! Disappointed, I tossed it into a drawer. About a week later, I found it and actually tried it on me. What a difference! The sharp angelica opening soon melded into the sweet vanillic Guerlain smell I adore. The sharp Angelica continued to weave in and out of the vanilla base, cutting and contrasting to the sweetness. This was my husband’s fragrance of L’Art et la Matiere, due to its subtlety. It is not a sillage monster but has good lasting power. I cannot overemphasize the need to try it on skin. Also, since this is currently $235/bottle, I strongly recommend you get yourself a sample–preferably a spray sample if that’s what you’re planning on purchasing. This one is distinctive and its gentle sillage draws compliments. This one is worth the high price.

Smoky green vanilla, a lil too medicinal thoughout.. I like Tigress & Rose d’Amour better. I liked it for a little while, interesting play of dark & light, sweet & bitter, just not comfy in it.
