This fragrance can be polarizing, but it’s truly one of my favorites. The first couple times I wore it and thought it was…boring. I even put it in my swap box because I felt it just didn’t suit me. One day, I took it out and figured I’d try it again and it was DIVINE.
The mint and anise opening….a bit green, a bit spicy…the powdery iris and the crisp violet…all on a woodsy ambery musk base. This is not a loud fragrance, it has a vintage ethereal feel to it. In another review I saw mention of shoulder pads and teased hair—no, that doesn’t suit this at all–this is gentle sophistication. This is a lady who lunches, sipping her mint julep and touching up her powder discreetly before heading off to her next engagement. I would want to hug someone that smells like this. Very delightful, and I’m glad I never swapped it.

I bumped this down a star because I realized that it’s characteristic sweetness (from pear) prevents me from reaching for it often. (I generally prefer non sweet fragrances).
This is a relatively modern Caron, formulated by Dominique Ropion, with the older WWI N’aimez moi in mind. AM is a violet with some anise, a bit spicy, a bit sweet. I have two different versions : EdT decant (presumably from the larger version of the bottle above or the more clearly labelled EdT of the curved tall glass bubbled bottle topped in gold). I also have a 30 ml bottle similar in design to the picture above but smaller. ( 28 usd including shipping for 30 ml on line), and it is that version that I am reviewing here. It has been cooler recently, the EdT fragrance in my decant – bright violet, juicy pear – differs substantially from my 30 ml bottle.
The 30 ml is more of a violet anise blend and a subtle pear sweetness tinged with a hint of savory green freshness. It morphs slowly into an incredibly wonderful dry down that melds into your skin. It’s not quite as sweet as modern (cupcake gourmand) fragrances, but it is a bit less sweet and far richer than the EdT decant. It is also far more rich than the discontinued violette precieuse. In fact, it is so rich, that I almost think it’s weight is comparable to Guerlain LHB (without the throat scratching dry powder quality or the chill of iris or the characteristic guerlain dry down). This incidentally also completely lacks any hint of Caron mousse de sax dry down. It is rich, but does NOT reference any of the historic caron darkness. It is however far more full bodied than Carons discontinued violette precieuse. Think of it as a Sauternes.
There have been reviews stating that other bottles, such as the tall dimpled curvy one seemed lemony or musty. I don’t smell that at all, and lemon citrus is particular can be horrendous on my particular skin chemistry, turning candied and artificial. I am not historically a fan of these particular notes violet, iris etc. I find this to be as well crafted and more modern than as a more expensive, more acclaimed classic guerlain extrait. It’s more modern than vintage Carons in that it doesn’t read as dusky or powdery.
NOT throat parchingly powdery at all.
If you dislike sweetness, this will NOT be for you.

I’m about to commit perfume heresy: I’ve never really been much of a fan of Caron fragrances. In most Carons I’ve tried, no matter how nicely they might start off, usually there is some sort of mustiness that emerges in the base chemicals that they use that really turns me off. However…now I’ve finally encountered a Caron that even I can love: Aimez Moi .
Aimez Moi is a sweet violet. That in itself doesn’t make it particularly unusual. There are oodles of sweet violet scents on the market. Violets in nature don’t really have much of a scent, so perfumers have tended to go one of two ways in recreating them in the lab: they opt for a green violet that apes the scent of crushed violet leaves or stems, or they make a sweet violet that makes you think of those old fashioned violet candies. The thing that makes Aimez Moi stand out is this: Caron has added star anise. This is an unlikely, but as it turns out, swoonworthy combination. The spice is very well done-it must have been difficult to tone it down to the point where it did not overwhelm the delicate violet note, but Caron accomplished that in full. It is a linear scent-I smell anise and violets when I put it on, and I’m still smelling them 8 hours later with little to no change. Usually, I find that boring, but in this case, I am so smitten by the combination that I would be disappointed if either of the notes went away in favor of another. I have sampled the EDT-I know there is a parfum out there, but I think the EDT is perfectly suited to these notes. It allows them to be delicate, almost transparent. Sharpen or intensify them, and they could easily become cloying or overwhelming. You can wear this scent to work, you can wear it out-it is unlikely to offend anyone.

Aimez-Moi came out back in 1996 and it wasn’t a love at first sight, more like a love after a second sniff. I remember sampling it at Nordstrom’s and thinking “wow, this is not good”. Now I know what notes are in this, I realized that it was the initial notes of cardamom, star anise and mint that almost knocked me off my feet and led to my negative reaction. I went home not giving it another thought, not realizing that some of the Aimez-Moi gotten on the sleeve of my winter coat I was wearing. Next morning I was putting on my coat and I realized that something smelled wonderful-warm, rich and slightly green but what was it? I realized that this was the only scent I sampled that day and figured if it smelled this good later, I had to try it again. I did and this time I let it mellow out on my hand and yes, there it was, that wonderful scent. I bought it, used it all up and went through several bottles of it until one sad day I couldn’t find it anymore.
Few years later, I managed to find it online and not only it had a different bottle, I heard that it was reformulated. I just bought another bottle online and it seemed like the same scent.
I find it hard to describe because it’s a floral and yet, its not like any other floral that I smelled before-its lightly green, warm, rich with a hint of woods and had just enough sweetness to stop it venturing into bitter territory. The best word to describe this scent is “golden”-its rich, elegant, and classy. For me, this is the most elegant scent I have ever smelled. I am not a floral lover, usually preferring sweet candy, fruity and gourmand fragrances but this scent have captured my heart.

Since sweet and spicy is right up my alley, I bought this unsniffed in parfum form and it was love at first sniff. Except for Liz Claiborne Vivid, I had no other violet scents in my collection. Aimez Moi has a gourmand feel with sweet violet, anise, spices and a hint of vanilla, but keeps from being foody with a woody, resinous quality. It feels grown up and sensual and in no way a little girl’s violet scent.

The first time I smelled Aimez-Moi, my nose recoiled a bit from the sharp, medicinal anise notes- but the fragrance warmed into the most comforting violet aura, which surrounded me like a soft blanket. It has a melancholy vibe that is reminiscent of Guerlain’s L’Heure Bleue, but I find this scent much more wearable, with better staying power. Especially nice for late fall and winter.

Warm, lightly-spicy violet with a soft, ambery magnolia drydown. Lovely, flirty, satisfyingly complex. Weather has to be just right, though. Anise, violet, and mint are like cough syrup in the cold; sweet amber is cloying and heavy in the heat. But in the in-between; it’s perfection. Lightly sweet and almost-edible without being syrupy. Wears a long time (especially on clothes). Men seem to love it. They get within the “waft zone,” inhale, make eye contact, and smile.

Wow, thats pretty! Soft and floral. Loveing this. This is really getting my attention and doesn’t remind me of anything else I have ever smelled. This is romantic and would be perfect to wear on a first date. A walk through the park, dinner for two, this needs attention and need to be showed off, If your wearing this please leave the house and let others smell you, this is Devine Drying very soft, dont know if this will still be present in an hour or so..

I have a strange, on-again, off-again relationship with Aimez-Moi, but because when I love it I REALLY love it, I’m giving it 5 lippies. I guess the thing is that when I haven’t worn Aimez-Moi in a while, it always takes some getting used to. It is an oddly beautiful scent, and when I first spritz it on it is VERY sweet violet, almost like candy. Very quickly, though, it begins to morph into a lovely anise which is cool and dignified, not big and heady like the anise in Lolita Lempicka, which I love but find too overpowering at times, especially in the summer months. This is not so for Aimez-Moi, as it is a cool-warm scent — cool and clear, but with a touch of warmth due to the hint of pipe tobacco that creeps in, which some reviewers have mentioned. There is also a vague musty quality to Aimez-Moi, which is hard to describe. The mustiness is there throughout, and lest it scare you, I must say it adds something quite unique to Aimez-Moi — no other scent smells quite like it. There’s not a time of year when Aimez-Moi doesn’t work for me. Like I said, it does take some getting used to … but it’s well worth the adjustment!

There’s something in Aimez-Moi that reminds me about Lolita Lempicka… it must be the licorice and anise scent! But it is a much more elegant and sophisticated version, with more depth and a strong character. Violets, mint, maybe some clove, a surprising fragrance perfect for evening wear!
