The year was 2007 and Fahrenheit 32 came out. It reminded me of another scent that was new at the time, Jean Paul Gauthier’s Fleur du Male. The similarity being that both erred on the side of being more unisex (read: feminine) than usual for a masculine fragrance. I’ve never been one to not wear a scent due to it being marketed to women, or smelling too feminine. In fact, this was right up my alley. What does it have in common with Fahrenheit? Not that much. Flankers are an unnecessary evil I’ve learned. I liked this one because it had a floral edge with vanilla in it, it was just weird enough for me to work. I wore it all the time when it came out.
Through moving from one city to another, I either misplaced my bottle of this or gave it to a friend. I can’t remember. Recently, I came into posession of it again. I was ready to be transported back in time so to speak, even though it’s only been 8 years or so. I quickly sprayed it on my wrist and chest (as I usually do). At first, I was comforted by an old friend. Minutes later, I had a headache. Then I felt nautious. I quickly showered it off as I was at home. I tried it again another day, with a lighter hand. It seemed okay. Then I wore it a few other times, and the sickness I felt before came back. Obviously it’s been reformulated, and it’s not quite the same. Sad…but Dior has been doing this with their scents A LOT lately.

This is a really great new fragrance from Dior for men. I am a beauty advisor and I sell a lot of this fragrance, because it is different. It’s a stronger scent, but not as masculine as the original Fahrenheit. The Vanilla scent is lovely and quite obvious, it’s pleasant. This is a warm, woodsy fragrance. Some guys may find it too “feminine” but it’s not, but it is quite different from other men’s fragrances out there. I got it for free from the Dior rep at Christmas, and I wear it all the time.

I originally thought that this was a new, for-women version of Fahrenheit – I saw it today at my local Dior Counter right next to the women’s scent display, and the bottle actually looked feminine to me. I love trying new scents so I gave it a go – it was at first a bit dustily sharp, if that makes any sense. I will make my best attempt to describe the intermediate stages but I confess I lack the expertise and vocabulary, the only thing that comes to mind is ‘semi-aquatic fougere’. Seriously – not bad but not great – probably much better on masculine skin. The scent faded to the drydown very quickly and when it did, it smelled very similar to Bulgari Black, a ‘burnt-rubbery’ vanilla – which (since I own a bottle) I am rather fond of.
No sale for me – if I want my DH to smell like this, I will just spritz him with my Bulgari Black… and skip the harsh opening and weird fougere stages to boot!
