I’ve been using Signature Minerals for well over ten years. I have had acne-prone, sensitive skin most of my life. I bought Signature Minerals because I approved of the ingredient list and the price. It not only didn’t aggravate my acne, but would help it heal. Acne is less and less of a problem for me over the years.
I keep my morning makeup routine fairly simple. My face can have redness at times so I like using the soft mint corrector. I even use that under my eyes. I then go for the 2.3 foundation and then on to some blush. I have used different shades over the years. I will even just use the blush color on my eyelids when I’m just going for an everyday look.
I have three daughters and even if they want to experiment and play around with all different kinds of makeup, they all rely on Signature Minerals as their everyday, go-to makeup. They even raid my supply!
Signature Minerals offers great little trial sets so you can see what shades work for you (or even mix some yourself). You have nothing to lose trying it out. I also like that I can opt for less packaging and just buy little refill packets.

This is the first mineral foundation I’ve tried that doesn’t irritate my skin at all. The others I’ve tried all make me beet red for days (with a flushed/hot feeling), as my skin gets tighter and tighter, until the redness finally goes away. Then I start peeling like crazy. Yucky.
2.0 Light is a great match for my NC20 skin. I also really like the finish. On my very dry skin, it’s a great compromise between matte and dewy. I’ll hesitatingly call it satin, but it’s mainly just…nice.
I usually swirl this with a tap of sericite (which I get from Coastal Scents) for staying power–and bulk, because I like a little more product and using just a tiny little sprinkle of mineral powder makes me feel insecure–before I buff it on, but it also seems to last pretty well on its own. I’m not a great judge of staying power though, since I have a bad habit of touching my face, and I typically don’t build/layer anyways, so YMMV.
So far I’ve had only good experiences with SM’s sampling policy and customer service. I think I’ve ordered from them two or three times within the last three years? If you’ve reacted to other mineral makeup products but haven’t given up on them yet (and if you bought some yummy brushes like I did you still so want to use them!), you should totally give Signature Minerals a shot.

i have used this foundation for several years now. i have tried a few others and this line works best for me. I can’t stand liquid foundations so i started trying the mineral powder ones and loved them.
this one has perfect color matches for me, regardless of whether i am tanner or pale. it does not sink into fine lines as much as some, does not change color on me and best of all does not break me out or irritate my skin in any way shape or form. i have even, on occasion, had to sleep in it (gasp) and still had no issues, and i have really acne prone, sensitive skin.
since this was the first line i tried, i have on occasion strayed…figuring maybe there are even better ones out there but have never found any that compared so i have stuck with it.
i don’t use it the way most do…i don’t buff it on with a brush. too messy and takes too long. i sprinkle some on a round cotton pad and buff it on my skin. then i set with a light mist of a hydrosol or fruit mist (i use garden of wisdom stuff) . stays all day…i blot maybe once or twice if needed during the day. it looks like skin…not like foundation.
love it. highly recommend.

HG!!!! I FINALLY FOUND IT! So excited! I posted this under their sample kit review page here, but this is worth reposting! After years of using BareMinerals, I stopped because I realized that a.) I was allergic to it, and b.) It made my skin look like crap. At the age of 19, it made me look like I had wrinkles. I went back to liquid foundation, but kept on searching for a MMU that would work for me. Unfortunately, it’s taken me seven years to find it.
I have tried and/or looked into Everyday Minerals, MAD Minerals, Meow Minerals, Elegant Minerals, GloMinerals, Youngblood, Mineral Silk, Silk Naturals, Afterglow, Barefaced, Alima, Lucy, Oceanmist, Lily Lolo, etc., etc., etc. Honestly, way more than I can list. They all either have WAY more ingredients than Signature Minerals, or they’re WAY more expensive. For instance, I found that some formulations of Meow Minerals were ok, but SM was less expensive. There are so few ingredients that I dare your skin to become irritated by this.
Speaking of formulations, I find it really refreshing that I don’t have to worry about picking a color AND a formula. If you want it glowy/dewy looking, they have a veil for that. Seriously, I didn’t even bother trying Meow’s line because it was so overwhelming and the site’s navigation scared me, even though the color selection there is amazing. I knew I’d be sampling for years to find my match.
This MMU literally looks as good or better on my face than liquid foundation. WHAT?! Yes, you heard me. I can’t believe I said it, either. I can get as much or as little coverage as I want, and it looks like I have perfect skin. It evens me out, their concealers are AMAZING and actually conceal (take note, other MMU companies!), and it stays ALL day without any touch ups (I wear a veil underneath as a primer and I moisturize with EVOO, which probably helps it stick and meld with my skin). Oh, AND IT DOESN’T SETTLE INTO FINE LINES! So, at age 26, I do not look 90, thank you.
I received my sample kit in two days. Yes. Two days. Their customer service is amazing and they happily take suggestions for colors. Also, their samples have lasted me a week now and I haven’t even made a dent in them. And I apply generously to my face AND neck (to avoid weird-ghostly-mineral-face in pictures if one should be taken).
For reference, I’m an NC/NW15 (depends), with golden/yellow undertones… especially since over the summer my skin actually saw the light of day. I use the 2.0 Light Foundation, Bisque concealer (would recommend Light Touch for those who are as white as I usually am) and Angel Wings Veil under and over my foundation. I do use Hard Candy Glamoflauge concealer under my eyes to conceal dark circles, but then I go over that with a dusting of the Angel Wings Veil, then their Soft Sunshine Color Corrector and oh my gosh! Soft Sunshine has done something for my eyes that nothing else ever has! Highly recommend!
I look matte all day, but not so matte that it doesn’t look like skin anymore. It looks like skin… can’t explain it. Simply the best, most wonderfully milled amazing stuff EVER. I hope everyone buys this so SM can stay in business forever and continue to supply me with the best MMU known to mankind. LOVE! I do hope, though, that they get more colors into their line. I think some brighter colors would attract a lot more girls and having natural and bright colors would help them to reach a broader audience. But apart from the limited blush shade selection, no complaints!
Amazing products, amazing service, amazing prices. I am a lifetime customer. Never been able to call a foundation my HG before, and never would’ve dreamed it would be a MMU and something good for my skin!

This one works better for me than EDM and Lucy Minerals. I wonder, why does this brand less popular than those two :p

I’ve used Signature Minerals foundation (as well as concealed and blush) for about 2 years now. I’d never had much luck with liquid foundations (just couldn’t get even coverage) or other minerals brands (never found a shade light enough). Signature Minerals’ shade 0 (Porcelain) is the perfect all-year-round shade for my pale Caucasian skin. Coverage is medium and it’s easy to build up (and hard to mess up).
I love the ability to order free (you do pay postage) samples. It gives you the chance to find exactly the shade you need and they come in easy to use small jars with a very generous amount of powder. I found that it was enough for trying out my shade for at least a month, which was fantastic as that way I could be sure my skin wouldn’t have any problems with it.
I do wish the lids weren’t clear plastic as they just don’t look all that great after repeated use. However, this of course has nothing to do with the way the product works. I can’t see myself switching to any other brand ever again!

I have used SM for four years and I love it. I have acne prone, combination skin with highly visible pores. This makeup does not irritate my skin, it stays on all day and it matched my skin color very well.
Some tips on SM:
1. Use your favorite primer. It helps the makeup stay on and not settle in your pores throughout the day.
2. The SM synthetic brushes are the best I’ve tried for even application.
3. Moisturize! Otherwise you’ll get dry patches.
4. I mix veils to get the coverage (green and radiance) I want, then I apply my foundation on top.

I bought samples of this so I could get the free shipping when I ordered the eyeliner. I break out and need full coverage so it doesn’t work for me. I actually use the naked skin foundation. I feel like bare minerals, as a mineral foundation, provides better coverage than this one. The thing I really like about this is, I use it as a finishing powder over my foundation when my skin is clear and it has a highlight type of quality to it. It makes my face look luminous. I can’t wear it if i’m breaking out because the luminous effect tends to highlight the trouble spots. When my face is clear and I wear this as a finishing powder I get complements on my makeup/skin. So no I don’t like this as a foundation because it’s so light. It’s really for people who already have beautiful skin and need just a little touch up. But as a finishing powder it’s actually really nice.

UPDATE 2:
Subtracting a lippie, just because I like Jane Iredale presses foundation better – it had quite better longevity
END OF UPDATE
UPDATE:
I have now worn this foundation for about a month, and Iove it 🙂 It is the only mineral foundation I’ve tried till now that doesn’t break me out. With many foundations I can say that they irritate my skin very little, but this doesn’t irritate it at all 🙂 In general, powders are better for me than liquids, but mineral foundations have always given me the biggest problems – but not this one 😀 Now I’m wondering if I will ever manage to use up my other foundations, because this is currently my HG foundation for OK/nice skin days
END OF UPDATE
I have very sensitive skin. I have tried some mineral foundations before, but they all have broken me out pretty badly in less than a day (I have tried each of them over 10 times, so I’m pretty sure about this). My skin is very sensitive. The few I have tried are:
– MAC mineralise skinfinish (gave me clogged pores)
– Lucy Minerals original formula (gave me cysts in few hours -must’ve been some kind of allergy)
– L’Oreal mineral foundation (pore clogging and bad looking)
– Kanebo Kate Mineral foundation (both powder and liquid, broke me out a little)
I might have tried more, but don’t remember right now. With every of these foundations I felt hot and sweaty, even when I was barely wearing any. I was the most disappointed about Lucy Minerals breaking me out :/ The strange thing is that the foundation broke me out, but not the blush (the colours BTW are nothing like on the site – on there everything looks quite much more green than it really is). Anyway: I don’t know what ingredient it actually is that breaks me out. The geisha Ink didn’t break me out at all, which I was very happy about 🙂
I bought 3 different colour-samples of Geisha Ink mineral foundation, of 6 different in total:
– Aiko #1 – about an N/NC-10. I’m not sure if it’s possible to get lighter than this, but I might be wrong. Anyway: it goes on lighter than it looks in the jar
– Etsu #3 – about an NC20
– Hisano #4 – about NC25, probably
I didn’t buy number 3 because it looked like it was going to be pinkish in colour, which I absolutely don’t need. My colour is Etsu – it’s yellow enough for my very yellow Asian skin! 😀 And my skin is VERY yellow – not sure if people can be more yellow and not have jaundice. Right now my skin looks pretty clear – only 4 spots I need to conceal and a little bit of undereye circles. The rest of my skin doesn’t really have much problems – barely any hyperpigmented areas. This means I only need light coverage from a foundation, and this is exactly what Geisha minerals gives. I apply it with a fluffy brush and it gives only light coverage – I’m not even sure this could give medium coverage – I think you then would need to apply with some kind of kabuki, but as said: I’m not sure it could give medium coverage.
.
Otherwise, I have dry-normal skin and I didn’t find this had any/much oil-controlling properties. This is good for me as my skin doesn’t feel tight after application, but I probably wouldn’t recommend this for those with oily skin. This foundation wears well on me during the day. Even though it’s a powder, I don’t feel it actually disappears much at all, but again: I only need light coverage, so even if it did disappear a little, I might not even notice. I like that this doesn’t have any smell or shimmer, but it still makes my skin look healthy and as if I wasn’t wearing anything (but I’m able to achieve almost the same look with a few other foundations too).
What I don’t like about this is that it’s a loose powder and this makes it difficult to bring it with you. On top of tat, this is so finely milled that it has a tendency to make big powdery clouds when I open it. I know this came in compact form before; I wish this could also be make into a compact :/
Anyway: I really like it and it does what I want it to do: 1) fits me in colour 2) doesn’t break me out 3) wears for a long time 4) looks natural. I would’ve purchased a full sized jar, if it didn’t cost $40 – I would get equally much in VAT and taxes where I live If I bought this 🙁

This foundation is very very sheer, so its not for those who want good coverage. Otherwise it gives a great finish, and its good on the skin and blends easily. So a very good product if you only need a sheer finish, great as a finishing powder.
About the colors, I am a Mac NC30/32, and in ID Golden medium.
I will say, number 5 in geisha ink is the best color for my skin tone.

Can’t say enough good things except yay! Finally found the HG. You gotta try it… they sell large samples to test and get color match etc. Not a huge color selection but they are all much more normal shades to me than the other MMU brands. So many are orange or yellowish and don’t cover or blend well on me. I use a finishing powder but only cuz I work 12 hour shifts and need it to last…and it does.
Not sold in states but shipping was about 6 days so not bad. On pricier side but for what I get, I’ll pay it happily.

Just finished my first (but certainly not last) container of the Geisha Mineral Powder. I have extremely sensitive and sometimes acne prone / oily skin, and this product doesn’t irritate my skin at all! In fact, I have seen improvement in the quality of my skin since using it; my skin actually breathes unlike other foundations and mineral powders I’ve used in the past.
The coverage is great (can be layered and built up depending on your preference) and it blends wonderfully. I work long hours in sometimes hot and humid environments and it stays on all day long. The closeable sliding lid allows me to easily carry it in my purse for quick touch ups if I am meeting friends after work.
Can’t wait to order my second batch of this mineral powder! <3 Geisha Products!

Was excited to buy this product after the pressed mineral was no longer available. At first I was disappointed with the coverage, but really like this formula. I then realized I was not using the correct brush. A dense Kabuki makes a world of the difference. With a powder blush, it applies like any loose powder. However with a Kabuki, it blends beautifully, has awesome coverage and wears well. I have really oily skin and this wore for 5 hours before breaking a slight shine. A winner in my books.

Great mineral foundation. The best out of the dozens I have tried. What I found made it stand out is, the outstanding natural coverage, and staying power. I didn’t even need concealer and did not have to touch up all day. Only down side is that it is not sold in the US and needed to be ordered online. Oh the price of beauty…
finickyPonie8
I had to experiment with a number of samples before I found the one that matched my skin color best. I really appreciated their affordable samples – I am 2.3 – I really like this foundation. It is not glittery, not chalky and looks very true to skin. It builds nicely too. I have not had a problem with staying power either. I have tried other MMUs but this one was affordable and neutral on my skin.

I must say I am quite surprised this is given such low ratings.. It works really well on me, gives beautifull coverage (no shimmers whatsoever!!!!) that lasts all day, and really good value compared to some others! The full size comes in a sifter jar of 30g with 10g or foundation. 4.0 is my perfect shade..

Not a huge fan……I will use up my samples when need be, but not purchase more. I find it very chalky and doesn’t smell good. I much prefer Everyday Minerals and Merle Norman Luxiva.

I was pretty excited when I heard that Geisha Ink launched a loose mineral foundation, after my beloved pressed was discontinued. It finally arrived in the mail last week and here are my comments:
I was at first worried I would not like it as much as the pressed. To my surprised I actually like it more:)! The coverage is better than the pressed, and it blends into the skin flawlessly, almost creating an airbrushed look. I ordered the kabuki brush as well which buffs into the skin beautifully (Kabuki brush is soft with perfect density)! I have oily skin and this powder wore for approx. 6 hours before having to touch up…pretty good in my opinion.
I asked them about a finishing powder (which I noticed most mineral foundations have). They informed me that this does not need a finishing powder due to it’s formula and quality…I agree. Personally I did find the whole “finishing powder” a marketing gimmick to get people to spend more money…but that’s just my own personal opinion.
All in all, I really love this foundation.

So, I used to use the pressed mineral foundation in Chiyo shade no. 2. After trying to order it about 3 times, I have received the deadly confirmation that they have discontinued it. They recommended their new product, the loose mineral. I was not sold in the beginning because I preferred the press. After much back and forth with emails, I thought, “Waht the heck!” I just got it in the mail today and ordered Chiyo no. 2 again. The color is even better than before. I am fair with neutral undertone and the originally chiyo was about 1/2 a shade too dark in the winter time. This is perfect finally and I can always get the next shade in the summer but as if I ever tan???
The product: I moisturized my face and then apply with my kabuki brush. It is unbelievable. The coverage it out of this world. I received this product in the mail at 10am and applied it at around 10:30am, I still have it on now. It feels light, coverage excellent, color did not turn (not too pink nor too yellow/orangey). It is a huge improvement from the pressed version. Ladies, if you think you are in love with the pressed version, you must try this. I might order shade no. 1 (aiko) for my undereye. I don’t know yet but I am so freakin excited!!! At least now I have found a replacement.
grumpyRelish1
I just got it on-line so I am surprise to see there is already a review. BTW, their website has started web sales again.
LOVE this also! I am so impressed. I am usually quite skeptical with loose mineral because in the next 3-4 hours, my skin turns either super shiny looking or it turns orange. I wear Hisano#4 and it wears all day. Went for a late lunch with my good friend yesterday, literally sat at the hotel lounge for hours with her and then headed out for dinner and drinks with another girl friend. Wears all night. We took some photos in the evening and boy, my skin looks so flawless I hardly remember it is mine.
Feels like on the skin, but coverage is amazing. I wore it with no concealer, seriously!!! This is by far my favorite clean makeup out there. Also, it is a semi-matte so it is good for dry/oily skin. Mine is combo and on my oily zones, it works great and around some of my dry area (cheeks) it did not pick up any dry spots 🙂
