My skin: 41 years old, normal/combo skin in the summer, more on the dry side in the winter. Prone to acne and dehydration with some texture, large pores, persistent flaking on the nose, and I have one of those noses that foundation just will. not. stick. to. Pale skin with yellow/olive undertones and a fair bit of surface redness. MAC Face & Body in C1 is one of my best foundation matches, Estée Lauder Double Wear Light in 1W2 is also good.
So I have mixed feelings about this one (don’t I always?) but it is a very good foundation, overall. I got this one because of Thataylaa’s reviews, mainly, and because I want a higher coverage foundation for evening wear, mostly. Or so I though, at least. I have Estée Lauder Double Wear, the classic high coverage one, and hoped that would fit the bill. It looks pretty bad on my skin, though, sits in my pores, brings out all of my texture, very visible and pretty unflattering, unfortunately.
This one, however, sounded like a high coverage foundation with a completely different kind of texture, smoothing and luminous rather than matte and longlasting, which clearly didn’t look very good on me.
And it is! It’s extremely full coverage, much more so than Double Wear, I find. It’s so full coverage that I never really learn exactly how little I need of this. I always end up with foundation to spare, and I think I’m realizing that I don’t actually want as full coverage as I think I do. The finish of this is GORGEOUS on me, though; smooth, slightly blurring, skinlike, really beautiful. It even sits well on my nose. It’s also pretty amazing how much it looks like skin, in spite of the very heavy coverage. Not invisible, I don’t think anything with this level of coverage could be, but it’s beautiful and lacks that typical, unflattering tell-tale foundation look, you know? And it can be worn sheered out, of course, which is how I like it.
It doesn’t really set, I find, and it’s definitely not anywhere near transfer proof, so setting with powder is pretty much necessary. I don’t think the weartime is particularly stellar, either. It never breaks up and looks bad on me, but it’s prone to coming off a little with wear, which can be fairly visible as it is so full coverage. That’s fine, though. It’s not the kind of thing I would put on for 12+ hour workdays, anyway.
The real issue I have with it is the shade. I assumed that the lightest shade, Porcelain, would be too light for me and got Fair. Fair, however, is not a great shade on me. It’s a slightly too dark, but the main problem is that the undertone is completely wrong for my skin. It’s very peachy and quite saturated, and saturated foundation shades with strong peachy undertones are pretty much the worst kind on me, even cool pink shades look better. I can’t wear it on its own. I look like a pumpkin. The contrast against my greenish yellow neck is jarring.
So I’ve experimented with mixing it a bit, and it does mix well with other foundations. I tried mixing it with a mint green cream colour pigment from Illamasqua and got a pretty good shade, but the finish of that mix was less gorgeous than some other combos I’ve tried. The high pigmentation also means that the strong peach tone in Cover Lock is prone to taking over the colour of anything I mix it with, so I haven’t found a combination I really love, as of yet. I recently got The Ordinary Coverage foundation in 1.1Y to see if that would be a good mix, but that foundation just slides around on my face and didn’t really do much for the peachiness in Cover Lock either.
I’m currently waffling between looking for a green foundation mixer, which would be a good thing to have for me anyway, lots of foundations are too peachy/orange for me, or just getting Cover Lock in the Porcelain shade. I really do like this foundation. It looks gorgeous on my skin. I just have such a hard time with the shade.
So. Gorgeous, very full coverage foundation, not for you if you want the Double Wear kind of industrial strength lasting power and if you like that typical DW kind of finish and formula overall, probably. But if you want full coverage, and long wear formulas like DW just look like shit on your skin? This one is certainly worth a try, especially if peachy undertones work for you. It’s really beautiful.

Just when i thought i had my favorite foundations set to use, i discover this gem. I have very porous and oily skin, this Fabulous Foundation is Thick and Creamy and Covers the Face Flawlessly. You only need to use a little compared to others to get the job done right. For as thick as it is, It spreads easily with a Foundation Brush and I dont use my hands. I top it off with a mattifying powder and my Face Looks Porcelain. This comes in a 1 Ounce tube, which will last long and Totally worth the money and Highly Recommended. A+++

A few months ago I came into Ulta seeking out Estee Lauder Double Wear, but one of the associates told me that they didn’t carry it at this exact location. No problem, so I asked if there was a similar product. She directed me to Laura Geller Cover Lock. Honestly, I don’t know if I had some sort of hopefulness that this would do all the things Double Wear would do, but I bought it. I look like grease ball when I wear this, and I feel like i have to put a lot of setting powder on to control that. I LOVE a dewy look, don’t get me wrong, but for some reason I just felt greasy. Shifted around very easily as I put blush on my face too, which I didn’t love, and would have to go back and fix it every time.the shade range wasn’t spectacular for my skin tone, I found all colors I dried gave me a pinkish reddish undertone that was visible, and I’d have to blend it waaay down my neck. Honestly, there’s nothing special about this product that stands out for me unfortunately.

I love a full coverage finish that lasts all day. I have oily skin but prefer a more luminous foundation that I can easily set that way I don’t look too dull or cakey. This is exactly that. My acne, redness and dark spots are completely masked without looking heavy. The only gripe I have is that this is so tacky that it transfers way too easily making setting and baking a must. Although I need to touch up throughout the day this is by far way better than looking washed out despite not needing to re-touch anything. When I do touch up my pores look small and very smooth. I would think dry skin would love this and oily skin would need to be ok blotting often, although for me it’s so worth it.

I love this foundation. Great coverage and staying power. A little goes a long way!!!! The colors look orangey in the tube, but on the skin, looks great. If you need full coverage without the weight of a heavy foundation, you will like this. At $38 for a tube, it is pricey, however…the tube will last you a VERY long time.
