I find this is a nice cream shadow that brightens up my face and works well with my dark green eyes. As others have noted it is fairly sheer, but I don’t mind because I usually use this as a wash over the whole lid, or as a base for other, similar shades of powder eyeshadow. Contrary to other reviews I don’t find this glittery, but rather shimmery (I hate glitter).
It doesn’t crease on me until about 8 hours of wear, but it does wear off gradually. I said that I would not repurchase, but not because I’m dissatisfied with this in any way, but just because it’s not really a staple.

This paint pot does not do much for me. I am medium tan or NC 35 and on me this shadow looks as good as not using anything. The glitter is terrible, they fall over my cheeks. I love cream eye shadow but I find Mac paint pot generally over-rated or perhaps they are more suitable for lighter Caucasian skin. My all-time fave is Shiseido cream eye shadow. I have a collection of those and wear them everyday. They are more pigmented, blend more easily, and the colors are incredible and they suit both light and tan skins. They don’t even dry up unlike these paint pots. But the downside is Shiseido is more expensive.

I wanted desperately to love this, but I don’t. It looks so lovely in the jar, but it is really thin and sheer, and the shimmer seems chunky and it just doesn’t work. This one is almost too creamy; I couldn’t really get it to dry down enough to be comfortable or add other shadows. PAINT POT TIP: Store paint pots upside down and they won’t dry out as quickly.

I bought this product about 2 years ago and wear it occasionally. The color is gorgeous and good for everyday wear. I’m about NC30-35 for reference and I like colors that just give my lids a shade of lightness that opens up my eyes without being so shimmery and little girl like. Good for work wear. When I first bought the product, the texture was really soft and smooth. Definitely need to wear primer under it as it does crease as I have oily lids. It glided on very smoothly and had an even application. However, I don’t know if it’s because of where I live (very dry climate), the texture isn’t as smooth as it once was. I was careful enough not to leave the lid opened and to close it tight and I even store it upside down so it doesn’t dry out as fast. The color is a peachy/pink light shimmer shade. It is really pretty. But for some reason, now when I apply it on my lids with my fingers, it’s not as smooth and applies sort of patchy and doesn’t spread nicely over my lids. I’m not sure why. My fingers are warm too so maybe it’s because of the environment. I don’t particular wear cream shadows often because of the drying out part and I have oily lids. Overall, I think this cream shade would work great for all skin tones. I would not repurchase it because of the texture I am feeling now with the product. I think if you lived in a more humid area, it wouldn’t be such a problem. I’m quite on the fence of this product but would not repurchase for myself.

I love using this to prime my eyes but sometimes I’ll just use it as a shadow. I typically use my finger but if I am using it as a shadow then I’ll use a brush to get a clean/flawless application. My eye shadow always creases without a primer and this works great at extending the wear of my shadow. I’ve had this product for 2 years and have barely made a dent. You definitely get a bang for you buck because it lasts so long! This primer is really creamy but you don’t feel like your shadow is going to slip off.

Rubenesque looks much prettier in the pot than on my lids, sad to say.
It doesn’t apply as well as Soft Ochre and Layin’ Low, probably because of the shimmer and it has a tendency to crease, even with eye primer underneath.
Despite the cons, it is a beautiful peach/coral shade that would compliment similar eye looks or bronze shadows.
By itself, it gives me a subtle peach glow effect on my lids.
If you gravitate towards peach or coral eye colours, you’d probably like this one but definitely road test it before buying.

Rubenesque is a close runner up for M•A•C Painterly in terms of frequency of use. It’s a golden peach duochrome shimmer that really does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. It can be a bit difficult to blend out the edges sometimes, but I just use M•A•C Arena in the crease and it looks seamless. Best application method I’ve found includes patting and blending across the lid with a fluffy brush. You will likely need to use a primer underneath to keep it from creasing.
Pros:
* lovely, complex shimmer
* a great single shadow look
* brings warmth and depth to shadows applied on top
* sheer but buildable
* creamy application
* very generous amount of product
* long-lasting
Cons:
* needs primer
* needs to be stored upside-down to stay creamy
* edges can be difficult to blend out

I’ve had this since I was a young teen and it was the first MAC product I have bought and can I just say, it is the quickest thing to apply when you’re in a rush. It’s not highly pigmented but I like it that way so I don’t have the problem of putting TOO much which is common when I’m in a rush (Smearing the product on aha…)
I love using it under eyeshadows to warm them up. I find that it lasts all day and doesn’t need a primer underneath. It is harder to blend out so you have to work quick with it but because it is so sheer, it doesn’t appear like a straight line, if you get me.
I do like the packaging but it is pretty unsanitary but it’s awesome for, as I said, when you’re pressed for time.
The price here in Australia is $35 but it lasts such a long time it’s insane.
I love this product.

I just got this. I tried bare study on but found the color too sparkly and washed out my olive skin tone. This ok the other hand makes my blue eyes pop and looks pretty natural. I use it with dip down or rich ground fluid line eyeliner. Great everyday look. Also doesn’t crease with a primer under it.

The least favorite of the mac paint pot I own. I feel it is not as pigmented as the other ones. And not as long lasting.
