My daughter gave this liner to me in Navy Smoke and when I saw the word navy, I put it aside. Later I decided to pull it out and try it and now it is my very favorite liner. It lasts longer than any liner I’ve used and looks more gray than navy but I love that it can pass for either. I never thought that this color would look good with dark brown eyes but it actually looks great. I also lightly brushed some on my brows and the color definitely looks gray on them. I have had to sharpen it and used a new Elf sharpener to do so. If you are very careful and don’t put a lot of pressure on the pencil when sharpening, you can eliminate wasting the gel. I would definitely purchase a second pencil and plan on researching for additional colors.

I picked this liner up in the shade “Navy Smoke”, which is a deep navy that can pull almost charcoal/gray, depending on the eyeshadow it’s paired with. I really like it as a less-stark alternative to black liner, when I want to go for a softer kind of look. Plus, navy looks great with brown eyes!
The formula is impossibly creamy! It really does glide on without tugging, and since it’s so easy to work with, I find it’s a breeze getting a slight wing (though, of course, it won’t be as sharp as a liquid liner). I prefer to smudge it though, and this liner smudges quite easily before it sets to a fairly iron-clad finish. It’s got a very matte dry-down, which I prefer, but it doesn’t look dry or papery. I find that I get a long wear time out of it as long as I wear a primer (which I ALWAYS do, since my eyelids are like a reenactment of the Exxon-Valdez).
The packaging leaves a bit to be desired. I really don’t like pencils that require sharpening, since it wastes product and requires having a separate tool. It’s less convenient than a twist-up design. I haven’t had to sharpen it yet, and I’m sort of dreading that moment, since I’ve had bad luck with gel-like pencils breaking easily in the sharpener, wasting even more product.
This is $12 at Target, which is more than I’d normally pay for a liner, but it’s hard to find an inexpensive, cruelty-free navy liner these days, except for ones that I already know have a bad reputation. So until a cheaper (or twist-up) alternative comes along, I’ll stick with this. It’s a beautiful shade and does precisely what I need it to do.

Where have these pencils been all my life???? 🙂 I’m a Julep Maven and got one of these pencils in Bronze Shimmer as an add-on about a year ago. It’s my favorite pencil and favorite shade! I also purchased Rich Brown, which is a really good color on me. Do yourself a favor if you buy one of these pencils—get a Julep pencil sharpener for them. If you get the regular monthly Maven box, you can usually add on a pencil sharpener for about $4. It’s a cute design and works really well on these!

I’ve been on the hunt for a new eyeliner. I’ve sworn by my NYX and really like LA Girl, but have noticed lately at my age of 25 that I am starting to get fine lines around my eyes.
NYX and LA Girl are not super harsh or anything, but it made me wonder if it was time to pick a softer pencil. Julep for me is just that, I still get my thick gel like texture but these pencils glide on almost liquid like while my NYX and LA Girl were more firm. Julep has a really wide color selection and they are good colors (not too crazy) that I would actually want to wear most of them minus the bright blues/purples.
So far I have used the golden olive shade and I am a big fan of it, it makes my hazel eyes pop. My only qualm is that during a very long day it really does need a touch up. For instance, if I go to work all day then want to go out at night, I would want to do a touch up since it fades around the wet parts of my eyelid (inner corner). If that bothers you take that in consideration. I suppose I am more worried about the texture as my primary concern.

I have like twelve of these in different colors. The shimmery ones are my favorite for sure! I use each of them for different things. One thing for me is that my lids are somewhat oily, and every single high-end liner has some struggles; if I don’t use a shadow primer, then literally nothing will stay on my lid except the kat von d tattoo ink liner (which is freakishly permanent anyway). So for me, these pencils are above the others I have tried. I like them better than Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners, though I still occasionally use one of the purples because it’s a great color. Otherwise, every single day I am using one of these pencils. They actually last pretty well for me – I repurchased smokey taupe shimmer because it’s my favorite, and it’s just kept going and going.
The application is smooth and very good. I’ve noticed now that some other pencils I used to like (like UD) are not as satisfying to put on. With some practice I’ve learned to wing them, though pencil wings are tricky in general. The Julep ones smoothly apply, and last very very well. My lids have a troublesome area where every pencil will smudge over time, but I can wear these pencils for over 8 hours without issue.
Price? I guess it’s expensive, but they last a long time for me. I always buy them on sale or with my Maven discount, so I guess it’s less of an issue.

I have this eyeliner in the shade “Smoky Taupe Shimmer” and it’s easily become my favorite liner to date. I normally use gel liners exclusively (mainly Bobbi Brown or MAC) but will be switching to these instead. The color is a gorgeous, shimmery purple-ish gray, and the application is flawless. It glides on as smoothly as a gel and last ALL day. No smearing or smudging, but still easy to remove at the end of the night. The only con I could think of is the hassle of sharpening it and having product go to waste in the process. Obviously a pencil liner won’t last nearly as long as a pot of gel, but it also costs a lot less and my gels tend to dry out before I finish them anyway.
Full price is a bit ridiculous for a pencil liner, but who really buys Julep at retail? They always have great sales, and a single liner usually goes for $6.99 or I bought a set of 5 in different shades for $24.99. Excellent quality without breaking the bank–I highly recommend you give this a shot!
