Ugggh…am I really going to give the great CHANEL a 1? Sadly…yes…
I wanted to love this product so much, and was ecstatic when I first bought it. Two eyeliners, one with sparkles? JACKPOT! And the great packaging is always a plus! Read the cons and you will understand, but I do love Chanel…
PROS:
– Love the packaging! Love the idea of two “colours”
– Wet your brush, stroke the colours, and it is easy to apply
CONS:
– It does not stay.
– Once it is dry, it looks fine, but within an hours, and worsening throughout the day, it’s like the powder dries up and flakes off my lids to my undereye
– On the worse days, I end up getting a black ring below my eye…this is usually caused by laughing too hard, but I really didn’t expect that anything that came from Chanel could cause me to look like such a fool!!!

* Product – La Ligne de Chanel / Professional Eyeliner Duo (#10 Noir – Lamé)
* Review – I first started using eyeliner and tight lining my eyes ages ago using Laura Mercier’s (LM’s) cake eyeliner. Through the years, I’ve tried pencil, pen and gel eyeliner but nothing – and I mean nothing – gives me a more precise and controlled line than cake eyeliner. Some say that cake eyeliners are difficult to work with but actually with a little practice, it’s virtually goof-proof. Now I just wish that I had discovered this earlier because I actually like this a *lot* more than LM’s cake eyeliner. In my experience, LM’s cake eyeliner absorbs the water as soon as it is applied to the cake and if you’re not lucky, the result is a very sheer and uneven application without a lot of color payoff. And with LM’s cake eyeliner, if there was too much water, you run the risk of getting panda eyes! No such problems or issues with this cake eyeliner duo by Chanel. The Chanel duo contains a very pigmented and opaque black cake liner and a hard graphite shadow liner that has fine silver shimmer particles. The black cake liner delivers a lot of opaque color with just one application – not the case with LM’s cake eyeliner. Smudging the line with the hard graphite shadow liner gives the eyes a more dramatic look. Both features that are simply not possible with LM’s cake eyeliner, which in my opinion is nowhere nearly as well formulated as this cake eyeliner duo by Chanel. The duo comes with two (2) small but surprisingly good quality applicators, a firm but flexible synthetic brush tip (for precise lining) and a sponge tip (for blending). And the genius of the applicators is that they connect together at the ends for super easy handling. How brilliant! I absolutely love the simplicity and elegance of cake eyeliners and Chanel has really made the eye lining experience a pleasure with this well-formulated cake eyeliner duo.
* Tip – You can use a drop or two of water or better yet, saline solution (the type in a bottle for contact lenses) in a small dish / bowl and use it to wet the brush. Saline solution is a handy beauty tool: use it to rehydrate mascaras that are a bit on the dry side and also use it to turn any eyeshadow into eyeliner. The salt in the saline solution locks in moisture and helps keeps the eyeshadow in place.
* Price – €38.10. It is a little pricey but considering the fact that cake eyeliners last forever and ever (even with daily use), the investment is well worth the payoff.
* Verdict – This is quite possibly, the most perfect cake eyeliner. Love!

Sigh, I wanted to love this product! It makes lining my eyes in the morning fun and easy, and easily cut my makeup application time in half. I love how matte the black is, though I am a little disappointed in the other shade. It looked like it would be sparkly, but it is sadly not. For my eyes, I believe this liner is not optimal, as it transfers to my upper lid bone and is truly quite a huge pain to try and wipe away, it will either smear and make a bigger mess or not move at all. I will keep playing with this, hopefully I will be able to avoid the smudging on top of my lid by applying it more thinly, but my preferred line is thick. If only it had the lasting power and smudge-proof qualities of my lancome artliner, which I do love, but I was getting tired of the shiny finish and how long it took me to apply it in the morning.
