this eyeliner is perfect for me because it is easy to use and truly doesn’t budge. i also like the sharpener that is included.
however, depending on how you wear your eyeliner, you will be using that sharpener a LOT because this doesn’t stay sharp past one use.

$5 pencils have lasted longer on me. This is extremely pricey, smudges and smears and is too soft to manage a reasonable line. Please don’t waste your money! EDIT: tried Lancome’s “Drama Liqui-Pencil” instead and it is incredible. The black one goes on so smoothly and was even there when I woke up the next morning. Consider that one instead!

I have not yet found a pencil liner that is ultra black and does not smudge. I have tried all the cult favorite pencils such as Urban Decay, MUFE, Marc Jacobs, Benefit and drugstore brands such as Essence gel pencil, Annabelle, Prestige and NYC. Though I switch brands frequently and am always looking for the best product, I find myself gravitating back to the YSL pencil the most. I am on my 5th re-purchase. This is an ultra deep rich blackest black and is amazing for a sultry sexy look. The staying power is not great but it is the darkest black that I can find with the best staying power of the ones I have tried so far. Urban Decay 24/7 liner also has an ultra black version in the shade perversion, but I prefer the YSL because it has slightly better staying power. This pencil glides on smooth but smudges after 2-3 hours and I only wear this as lower liner. It is also very pricey (costs $34) but it comes with a pencil sharpener. If I find a less expensive longer lasting pencil that is just as pigmented as this, I will be switching.

Pros:
– Super soft
– Glides effortlessly
– Very intense pigmentation
– The pencil itself looks sleek and sophisticated
– Needs sharpening after every other use
– Melts off the lashline almost instantly
– Expensive
Verdict: This “waterproof” eye liner pleasant to apply but doesn’t last, don’t bother with the lashline at all. The texture is waxy rather than powdery. Nevertheless it can be used with decent results if you aim smudging it along the upper lashline. I have the black one and won’t repurchase.

Today’s my first day of wearing it so here are my thoughts after 5 hours of wear:
1. Such a dream to apply. Smooth and absolutely no tugging.
2. On the waterline, where it is known for, it didn’t apply too well. After a few seconds, the liner was a bit gone so I had to reapply.
3. The tip easily melts off after applying. Like I have to sharpen it again or else the line will go thick. #hoodedeyeproblems
4. Smudged. But not too crazy. Maybe by the 4th hour.
5. I still have the line on but it’s not absolutely perfect. Still distinct but if you look closely, it’s not as fresh as it was when applied on the first time.
6. Made my vision foggy a bit. Like I can feel I have a liner on or I have something on. But it wasn’t irritating or itchy at all.
I also applied this on a friend today, so far, it was looking good on her. She doesn’t have watery eyes like I do though. And hers has not transferred at all.
I think one coat or one swipe of this should do(which is what I did to my friend’s waterline). I probably lined 3 times on me(because it was so soft! LOL!) which caused it to transfer.
I think it’s an ok product but there’s definitely some things you have to keep in mind when applying this:
1. 1 swipe
2. Clean up the lashes with a qtip to get rid of the excess liner
Would I repurchase this again? Maybe not though.

I have this in Black Ink, and I’m shocked at how bad it is. Seriously, just one of the worst eyeliners I’ve ever worn. It smudges within minutes of applying, flakes, smears, and transfers. For a high-end, expensive eyeliner claiming to be waterproof I expect it to at the very least stay put for a few hours. My skin is normal to slightly dry, and I don’t usually have issues with eyeliners smudging or or creasing unless they’re very, very creamy. And even then it’s only a little bit. So I don’t know what to make of this mess.
Pros are the the dreamy, soft crayon formula that applies easily, and the intense pigmentation that looks inky black. I like the matte finish as well. If it didn’t give me raccoon eyes I’d say it’s pretty amazing pigment-wise. But I actually had to wash this off entirely before I left the house when I looked in the mirror for a quick check before leaving and noticed that my eyes looked like I’d been out all night and it’d only been about ten minutes since I’d done my makeup. And this is over the Nars eye primer too.
This is going back to Sephora.

Great product!!!
I have only used this product in my waterline, but it’s very easy to apply unlike most eyeliners!
Goes on in 1-3 swipes!
Long lasting!
Perfect perfect perfect!
I haven’t used too many eyeliners, but YSL went on MUCH easier than the Sephora brand…(I’ve used some other brands too but I can’t remember which one’s weren’t good).

Why do people not like this!? I really, really love these. They are easy to apply, blend and smudge. The colours are all so flattering and they do not budge on me for 8+ hours.
These are by far my favourite eye liners of all time, at least I’ve found a HG product in at least one area.

I may have an updated version of this pencil because mine does not look like the picture.
I bought this in two colors, ultramarine and amazon green, and while I love the colors and how smoothly they apply, I am sad about the issues with it; I can only carefully apply this to my top lashline but if I dare to put it anywhere near the bottom lashline or get too close to the top lashes, it coats my contact lenses within 2 hours and I cant see out of them anymore.
I took them out and rinsed/washed them with the saline solution but the film would not budge so I had to use my emergency glasses I keep in the car.
I have tried this twice just to make sure that it was this eyeliner that was the culprit. It also smudged onto my browbone within a few hours of wear, but I do have very oily lids and slightly hooded eyes as well. Still, there are other eyeliners that dont budge on me and dont transfer, like noir cosmetics and most UD liners.
I do like the YSL potted gel eyeliner because it does not have these issues, I just cannot recc. this pencil.
It is also very soft, which means you have to sharpen it every time if you dont want a huge thick line across your eyelid, making this a very pricey eyeliner.

another very expensive product but a high quality one. It lasts well and doesnt smudge. I havent had any eye irritation either so thats a major reason to make a repeat purchase.
