I wanted to love this – the shimmering copper flecks in it that brighten my eyes, richly warm choc shade and the smoothness of application (it glides, like silk) are all 10/10.
But the fall out is terrribly disappointing. After about 4 hours of wear, it has run and smudged under my eyes and I have glitter flecks on my cheeks. I need to check, wipe and tidy it throughout the day.
If not for that, it would be a HG product. But for how much it costs – very expensive – I would expect a much better performance.

Like an earlier poster, I found this eyeliner HORRIBLE. I used it on my waterline and it really irritated my eyes. I’ve used many other brands on waterline – Bobbi Brown (gel liner), Shu Umeura, Nars, Trish McEvoy (gel liner) – with no issues. So don’t think I have particularly sensitive eyes. The other thing that’s weird is that it smudges like crazy for me – I do have oily lids, but I thought given other reviews this one would be the “one”. Not so. I’d say all the ones listed were better! I also found as another reviewer that to tightline properly you have to sharpen each time you use it, which means it doesn’t last very long at all. One last thing, it is incredibly soft, so if you have thick eyelashes you have to be careful to dot rather than drag the pencil, or you get the product caught in your lashes. Would not use this again if were given to me for free!

(EDIT: I should clarify that my original review below is for the Kohl Terrybly in the Brown Secret shade, not Brown Stellar. I bought the Brown Stellar shade recently and personally don’t think it’s anything special – very similar to MAC eye kohl in teddy except way more sparkly (and pricey). It’s also not as richly pigmented as the Brown Secret shade although if you like a metallic sheen finish, Stellar is the way to go. In terms of staying power, all the By Terry eye kohls are miles ahead of all other pencil liners I’ve tried.)
Oh man. Let me preface the rest of this review by first saying that this eyeliner is really ALL THAT. I think I’m probably ruined for anything else after using this (and by anything else, I mean anything cheaper.)
I was hesitant about buying this because I’d alreadyhad a seriously disappointing experience with the By Terry eye defining pencil which I think was discontinued when they brought out the Kohl Terrybly line. But after hearing raves about it on YouTube, I took the plunge and boy am I glad I did.
First of all, this eyeliner has amazing staying power. Really amazing. I live in a tropical climate with 80%+ humidity so when I say that it doesn’t budge, I’m dead serious. It has better staying power than my MAC Fluidline gel liner which is pretty crazy for something that comes in a kohl formulation. I tend to do a flicked up wing when I line my eyes and this is the only eyeliner I’ve used that looks just as immaculate when I come home in the evening as it does when I leave the house at 8am. In fact, the first day I used it I had a spa appointment and ended up sitting in the sauna for 45 minutes. I literally could not believe it when I looked in the mirror afterwards and discovered my eyeliner was almost perfectly intact (the colour had faded just a smidgen). It doesn’t last as long on the waterline – three hours maybe – but you can’t have everything I guess.
My only gripe is that the pencil needs frequent sharpening because of how soft it is. I’d say I have to sharpen it probably every other time I use it (although I like a really pointy end so that may be over shooting it!)
One tip that I find really helpful: for soft eyeliner pencils like this, store them in the fridge. It makes sharpening so much easier, you waste less product and the tip is far less prone to breaking. If you don’t want to store your eyeliner in the fridge (understandable), try popping it in the freezer for ten minutes before you sharpen it. It’ll firm it up so you can sharpen more efficiently. I’ve actually started storing all my eyeliner pencils in the fridge and it has been a total gamechanger. So much less hassle, and I’m getting like double the use out of each eyeliner than I was previously.

I bought the By Terry Crayon Kohl Terrybly in 3-Bronze Generation in May ’15. The positive points are that it stays fixed from the time you put it on until the moment you take it off, whether that is 2 or 12 hours later. The colour worked well with my eyes and you can layer as much or little as you like.
What I found really negative was how quickly the pencil wears down and how badly the pencil pares, with the By Terry pencil sharpener. The nib broke and dragged and hurt my eyelid several times. When I went to apply with a freshly pared nib, no colour would come out, I had to take to scrawling on the back of my hand which worked up to a week ago and now, despite paring it ever so slightly this morning, it has totally given up.
I have heard so much about this product which was personally recommended and I am very disappointed. The colour is exquisite, as are all of the colours but two months down the line I have a pencil that is half the size of the original and doesn’t even work. Really surprising.

This liner has spoiled me for other liners which I’m slightly annoyed about as it’s not cheap! I am reviewing Black Print. I got it in the By Terry Smokey eyes kit.
It goes on so smoothly – i didnt know liner could be so easy to apply. I love how inky black it is also.
The only con is that it is supposed ‘water proof’ but it does budge a little over time.
aside from that – perfect application

I hate to rain on the parade of postive feedback for this product. But I will. I’m reviewing Black Print. I wanted a eyeliner for the waterline that would stay put. The SA told me about this. Never heard of this brand so why not give it a try. I applied it on my waterline and all I did was tear up. I waited the next day try it once again same thing. All I did was wipe my eyes. They were so blood shot and irraitated. Waited a week same results. Don’t know why this doesn’t agree with me but the others did so well with it.

I bought this pencil in the violet shade after having bought the new NARS pencil and thought I really loved the NARS pencil but this beats the NARS pencil, hands down. It glides on so smoothly and doesn’t irritate my eyes. It comes with its own sharpener, which is a nice touch, and can easily do a fine line or a thick line. Stays put all day and I mean all day – I put in on at 6:30 am and it is still there at 8:00 pm when I get home from work. Comes off easily with eye makeup remover. The price point is a dollar or two more than the NARS pencil plus it comes with a sharpener. Can’t wait to get more colors.

Actually, I want to comment on the Crayon Khol Terrybly in other colors: Black Print, Purple Label, and Bronze Generation. I’ve tried every liner on my waterline — all the MAC’s (Fluidline, Powerpoint, etc.), Bobbie Brown, Revlon Colorstay, MUFE, UD 24/7, and nothing has lasted on my waterline for over 1 1/2 hours. By Terry stays on for 5-6 hours without smudging; it goes on easily and stays on. The colors are deep and rich. It’s expensive — around $25 — but it’s worth it. I’m hooked.

I never would have tried this on my own as my impression of the By Terry line is that it’s super-expensive, but the lovely SA at Space NK put two lines on my hand while I was searching for a new liner that wasn’t black or grey (what I always wear and a bit bored), one was Bronze Generation and the other was Purple Label, and I instantly fell in love with them both! I bought the bronze, went back for the purple, and now I am planning to buy the black one too. It is the most amazing pencil liner I have ever used. I don’t have any trouble getting a very thin, precise line, you just have to keep it sharpened (comes with a sharpener) and don’t press too hard. It’s such a soft formula that it applies extremely easily with a light touch. And then, don’t touch it for a few minutes while it sort of sets. Once it’s on, it’s on, and it won’t budge until you take it off with eye-make-up remover. Fantastic product!

I went on a spree and literally bought all colours after swatching these ££££££££!!!!
I got black print which is your standard black but a proper dark black.
Brown Stellar – medium brown with gold flecks
Bronze generation -darkgreen brown with goldeny green flecks
Blue vision – (always got to get the dark blue and purple liners) – very dark blue base with navy shimmer
Purple label- purple with purple flecks – this is a proper purple not lilac or lavender or plum a great colour.
All liners are really soft and give great payoff so whats the issue?
They are too soft so great if you want to blend but i like a good solid line.
The other thing is the bronze and brown when worn especially on lower lash line seem to dissapear halfway throughout the day and im lefy with lots of micro glitter undermyeyes almist down to my cheek
I got the MAC pearlglide and although the purple in that desigher purple is alot lighter wuth more definite bits of shimmer they stay longer and are cheaper.
The black in this as i said is a very dark black and if you like a smudgy look and are looking for a real black then get this otherwise i would pass.
I have had all 5 colours at the back of my hand since the beginning of this review and although they have set quite well the shimmer from the bronze and brown moves around ALOT!
If you can get them to stay brown stellar is beautiful as is the purple. The bronze actually comesoff as mossy green.
